Chapter 102: Rewards
Chapter 102: Rewards (Requesting Monthly Votes)
"Buzz buzz!"
Moments later, as the group rested, Lin Qi's phone vibrated. He pulled it out and saw a message from Jiang Tao.
[Jiang Tao: Brother Qi, I heard that whenever a Spatial Gate appears and Disaster Beasts erupt, participants who kill the beasts receive rewards.]
[With satellite defense systems and surveillance videos as evidence, we've killed plenty of Disaster Beasts. The rewards this time won't be small. We might even strike gold.]
Lin Qi glanced up at Jiang Tao, who winked back.
Shaking his head, Lin Qi thought, This Jiang Tao actually had the same idea.
He'd personally slain numerous Disaster Beasts, including second-tier ones. If Jiang Tao was right, this might indeed be a golden opportunity.
Money was tight for him. Though he had over two million credits, Martial Arts and Body Techniques manuals were astronomically expensive. More funds meant better chances for advancement—after all, no one ever complained about having too much money.
...
Time passed quickly to 8:00 PM.
"Beep!"
The office door slid open automatically. Yue Feng, dressed in combat gear, slumped into his smart chair.
"The glorious Spring Festival is ruined."
"Those damn Worm Cultists and their disgusting Bug Race again. They just won't give up!"
"This time, they failed, but they still cost Tianhai City 180 lives and 1,058 injuries."
"It's been almost five years since we last had a Disaster Beast outbreak."
Bang!
Yue Feng slammed his palm on the desk, leaving a visible imprint. After venting, he ordered, "Sun Manager, let's hear the report."
"Understood!"
Sun Manager, following him in, nodded and projected a holographic screen from his tablet. Battle footage and statistics flickered to life.
"Director Yue, three Spatial Gates descended in Tianhai City this time. All were minor Disaster Beast surges. A total of 3,528 beasts emerged."
"First-tier Disaster Beasts: 2,748. Second-tiers: 635. Third-tiers: 145."
"All have been eliminated."
"During the outbreak, 45 high school students and 28 university students participated in the battle."
"Seven performed exceptionally well."
"Among them: Lin Qi, Li Zhou, and Jiang Tao from Crimson Vault Martial Arts Pavilion."
"Lin Qi stood out the most!"
Yue Feng straightened as the report displayed crystal-clear footage—Lin Qi impaling an Ironthorn Boar with his Black Long Spear.
"Elaborate!" Yue Feng demanded.
Sun Manager exhaled sharply, still awestruck. "During the outbreak, Lin Qi was near Wanda Plaza. He rushed in wielding his Black Long Spear."
"He eliminated fifteen Disaster Beasts: eight Ironthorn Boars, three Mawfang Hounds, two Shadow Cats, and two second-tier Obsidian Horn Boars."
"This data shows it was his first battle against Disaster Beasts. In eight minutes, he saved twenty civilians while killing fifteen beasts consecutively!"
Sun Manager paused, still impressed. Yue Feng said nothing, watching the video feed.
Security footage showed Lin Qi charging into Wanda, killing the first beast, then methodically dispatching others before finally eliminating two Obsidian Horn Boars.
Yue Feng's eyes gleamed brighter with each scene.
"Clap clap!"
Rising from his chair, Yue Feng applauded. "First encounter with a Disaster Beast Ironthorn Boar—killed it with a single strike!"
"His technique needs work, but he's displayed top-tier innate combat talent and unshakable composure."
"Based on this footage, he's at least Second Realm strength. Plus, he's mastered all three Black Iron Spear Techniques' Third Annihilation Moves."
"This is a true prodigy. We underestimated his innate talent."
"He shows S-Rank Prodigy potential!" Yue Feng declared.
"Both Abyssal Maw and Black Radiance's leaders must've seen this footage."
"I bet they're regretting their decisions bitterly." Yue Feng chuckled, then added, "Don't publicize Lin Qi excessively. Handle his promotion like the others."
Sun Manager nodded solemnly.
"Prepare a reward for him. Such talent deserves early investment."
"And schedule a meeting with Lin Qi for the day after tomorrow."
"Immediately, Director." Sun Manager left to comply.
...
Meanwhile, at Abyssal Maw Martial Arts Gym, Deputy Pavilion Master Wang Zhenhai watched the same footage.
A man of average height but intense presence, Wang Zhenhai's eyes blazed.
"This kid's incredible. Which pavilion is he from?"
Li, his deputy, answered hesitantly, "Crimson Vault's A-Rank prodigy—Lin Qi."
Wang Zhenhai sighed. "Such a gem isn't ours? A shame."
Li hesitated before continuing, "Actually, Lin Qi was supposed to join us months ago."
"What?" Wang Zhenhai's expression darkened, his imposing aura making Li tremble.
"Gu Qian's severe negligence let this talent slip away. Who knows how many others she's cost us?"
"From now on, you're promoted. Report this to the Pavilion Master—I'll have Gu Qian removed."
"Thank you, Director!" Li's face lit with vindictive joy. That witch finally gets what's coming.
Meanwhile, blissfully unaware at her home, Gu Qian yawned watching news about the Disaster Beasts. Tomorrow's travel plans occupied her mind—until her phone rang. Her face turned ghost-white as despair flooded in.
...
On the afternoon of January 16th, Lin Qi's family and Jiang Tao's siblings were discharged from the hospital, preparing for the next day's surgery.
At noon on January 17th, at Tianhai First People's Hospital Sanatorium, in the third-floor shockwave therapy waiting area.
"Beep!"
The treatment room opened. A medical team wheeled out a gurney carrying Fang Huiyi, still asleep.
Lin Qi and Lin Zhen rushed forward as Dr. Li removed his mask and gloves, smiling. "The shockwave therapy was extremely successful. 99% of the toxins have been removed. The remaining 1% will be naturally expelled."
"Her body is free from toxin threats now."
Lin Zhen's voice cracked with emotion. "Thank you, doctor!"
Lin Qi smiled too, though Dr. Li continued, "However, her martial cultivation foundation is destroyed. Organ damage from toxins has left her permanently weakened."
"Restoring her martial strength will require extensive, expensive recovery treatments."
Lin Qi nodded. "We understand."
Back in the ward, Lin Qi watched his sleeping mother. In a world ruled by martial power, weakness meant vulnerability. His mother's path needed renewal—and that required vast resources.
"Father, take care of Mom. Director Yue needs to discuss something with me." Lin Qi said.
"Go ahead." Lin Zhen nodded, his new prosthetic arm gleaming.
