Chapter 102: Obliviate and False Memory Charm (Third Update)
Chapter 102: Obliviate and False Memory Charm (Third Update)
Putting down the intelligence report, Nick Fury looked at Agent Hill. Although he seemed to be complaining about being toyed with, a smile crept onto his face.
In fact, the more powerful and versatile the wizards showed themselves to be, the happier Nick felt. This meant that the wizards' potential value was even greater than initially estimated.
Faced with the threat of advanced alien civilizations, the stronger the Avengers, the better.
Especially someone like the wizard, who has a sense of justice and fights against crime every day.
Currently, on Nick's list of potential Avengers, Hawkeye and Black Widow, as seasoned S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, are no problem at all.
However, someone like Tony Stark, according to the evaluation report provided by Black Widow, while he has a sense of justice and a willingness to sacrifice, his personality is not quite what Nick is looking for.
As a giant in the military-industrial complex and a super businessman, there are no good ways to control him.
Dr. Banner, on the other hand, has a strong aversion to S.H.I.E.L.D. and the military. While his transformation into the Hulk is incredibly powerful, it also comes with significant issues, making it impossible to communicate or control him normally.
He could even pose a threat to world security.
In comparison, the wizard's issues are much more manageable. At worst, she's just skeptical of the government and S.H.I.E.L.D. because of too many movies.
This can be worked on, as S.H.I.E.L.D. is fundamentally about protecting the world and ensuring Earth's safety.
"Who would have thought she was just a girl? I thought she was a boy from her voice!"
Hill, clearly understanding Nick, wasn't surprised by his smile and made a joke.
Nick waved his hand.
"Kids her age don't have very distinct voice characteristics. If she makes a slight effort to sound more boyish, it's quite normal.
The most important thing now is that I need to meet her and talk to her in person!"
Hill nodded. She knew it was just a casual comment. After all, changing one's voice isn't that difficult; some S.H.I.E.L.D. agents can even mimic different voices so well that even machines can't tell the difference.
"Director, according to our intelligence, this Miss Wizard seems to have moved. She no longer appears from that warehouse in Queens but flies out of a random alley in Hell's Kitchen every night.
So, we might need to stake out Hell's Kitchen in the evenings to catch her."
Hill's face showed a slight wry smile.
In the past, the wizard would always go to the abandoned warehouse in Queens at night, so they could easily find her there.
But in the last month, she has been appearing in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, every night, and each time the satellite captures her in a different location. Finding a wizard flying around on a broomstick is not that simple.
"In that case, you and Phil should go. His Lola should be able to keep up with her broom."
"Without a teacher's guidance, even if I manage to learn it, there will still be flaws!"
In a corner of the classroom, Jerry looked at the Standard Book of Spells (Grade 2) and read about the casting techniques and precautions for Obliviate and the False Memory Charm, frowning.
Obliviate and the False Memory Charm were the spells he had been focusing on in the second-year textbook for the past few days.
To be honest, while these two spells may not have much practical destructive power, they are still incredibly useful, much like the Disguise Charm.
Obliviate, as the name suggests, is a spell that can directly erase the memories of the person it is cast upon. It is a commonly used spell by wizards to erase Muggles' memories of magic, preventing the magical world from being discovered.
The False Memory Charm, on the other hand, is used in conjunction with Obliviate to implant false memories in the mind of the person it is cast upon.
Within the Ministry of Magic's Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, there is even a specialized position called Memory Eraser. Only wizards who are highly proficient in Obliviate and the False Memory Charm can apply for this role.
These spells are introduced in the second-year textbook, and learning them is not particularly difficult. However, actually putting them into practical use is far more challenging and requires a certain level of talent.
Many wizards struggle to precisely delete the specific memories they want to erase or to implant false memories that are flawless and undetectable, even some very experienced and powerful wizards.
In many cases, a single Obliviate can leave the target with no memory at all, turning them into a blank slate.
Or, while the memory might be successfully erased, the spell can also damage the target's brain, leading to mental impairment or frequent forgetfulness.
Take Neville Longbottom from Gryffindor, for example.
However, Jerry suspects that Neville's condition might also be related to his young age at the time, when his brain had not fully developed.
So, the current situation is that, although he has learned Obliviate and the False Memory Charm through self-study, he is hesitant to use them without more detailed guidance from a teacher. Otherwise, the results could turn these spells into harmful attacks.
"Perhaps, I need more practice with real subjects. Only through practical application can I better master the techniques of casting these spells!"
At that moment, he couldn't help but feel a bit regretful. Yesterday, he shouldn't have killed those four mercenaries so easily. He should have used them to practice Obliviate and the False Memory Charm.
What a waste. With a bit of skill, he might have been able to reform them!
"Ring, ring!"
Just then, the bell signaling the end of class rang, and it was time to leave!
Closing his spellbook, Jerry skillfully tucked it into his box space, tidied up his desk, slung his backpack over his shoulder, and prepared to leave the classroom.
The teachers at this school have no habit of keeping students after class; they often run out even faster than the students. So, there was no need to wait around; he just needed to grab his backpack and go.
However, just as he reached the classroom door, a trendy girl with blue curly hair, wearing a denim mini skirt and ear piercings, stretched out her hand to block his path:
"Hey, Jerry, got plans after school? How about I treat you to a night out dancing?"
"Sorry, I've got something else to do. Maybe next time!"
Jerry seemed to have anticipated this and, in a swift move, ducked under her arm, smiled, and quickly left.
Since he made the front page of the school newspaper at the start of the term, he has become a bit of a campus celebrity.
Although he tries to keep a low profile, his handsome looks and perfect physique still attract the attention of some of his classmates.
The girl who just blocked his path was a senior, two years his senior, and this was the third time this month she had tried to corner him at the classroom door, hoping to go on a date.
But Jerry has no time for teenage romance. He has to pick up Elsa from school, cook dinner, study magic, and earn Little Red Stars. His schedule is already packed.
