Chapter 102: Magic Power Ring
Chapter 102: Magic Power Ring
After wandering around for a while, Ivan picked out quite a few ingredients for potion-making, planning to practice at home.
In the coming period, dark Magic Items might not be easy to sell, so to improve the family business, he could try making some potions.
Considering Douglas's former position as the Deputy Head of St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, Ivan sought his advice on potion-making and selling.
"You plan to sell potions?" Douglas stopped in his tracks.
"Listen, potion-making has never been an easy task. The slightest difference in the process can result in vastly different outcomes. You might have successfully brewed some potions in your potions class at Hogwarts, but that's far from the quality required for sale."
"For a potion to be sold, it not only needs to have a significant effect but also must be highly stable, so the buyer knows exactly what it will do before consuming it."
Douglas patiently explained to Ivan and then offered a suggestion.
"If you're interested in potions, I suggest you work in the potions department at St. Mungo's Hospital for a while after graduation."
Ivan listened attentively, but he still had some confidence in his potion-making skills, especially under the experience card mode, where he could even successfully concoct a Bloodline Fusion potion, which required a sixth-level potions proficiency.
"Alright, you can go look around nearby, but don't wander too far. Call me if you need anything." Douglas seemed to have noticed something and pulled out some Galleons from his pocket, giving them to Ivan with a reminder before heading towards a bustling little stall.
Ivan took the money without refusal, seeing it as a loan he could repay later. He took this opportunity to buy some things he needed.
He glanced in the direction Douglas had gone and saw a few Wizards and Goblins playing cards, possibly gambling, which immediately lost his interest.
"Drinking, gambling, extortion—how did he manage to become a Deputy Head?" Ivan shook his head as he watched Douglas sitting there, clearly enjoying himself.
Once Douglas was out of sight, Ivan felt free to explore the Wizard Market.
With the system’s identification function, Ivan believed he might find some good stuff in the market.
Special offer: dragon liver, 7 Sickles per ounce
Acromantula venom, only 60 Galleons
The stalls were filled with all sorts of peculiar items, with vendors shouting their wares, many of which were far below the prices in Diagon Alley.
However, the market was also chaotic, with many fake and defective products. It was hard to tell the difference with just the naked eye.
Ivan saw a Nimbus 2000 being sold for only 60 Galleons at one stall, but upon closer inspection, he found through the system’s Magic Item section that its maximum speed was a mere 40 miles per hour, likely a cheap imitation.
In the end, Ivan found something worth buying at a small, inconspicuous stall.
It was a silver-white Bracelet, made from a series of animal bones strung together, with a circular mark at the end of the chain. Seventeen Runes were arranged in a specific order on the mark.
These were ancient Runes he had never seen before, not even mentioned in the books on ancient Runes that Aisia had given him.
As soon as he touched it, the system’s information appeared in Ivan’s mind.
Magic Item: Magic Power Ring
Magic Power: Low (High)
Effect: Condenses magic and repels objects within a one-meter (three-meter) range.
Description: It may look intact on the surface, but due to improper use by the owner, this Bracelet is already on the verge of breaking. You can only activate its power twice.
"Magic Power Ring, 900 Galleons!" The vendor was a short male Wizard, who saw that Ivan was just an eleven or twelve-year-old young Wizard, and couldn't muster much interest, but still introduced the item.
"Just infuse it with magic, and when needed, it will release the stored magic with enough force to knock back an adult Wizard."
"Are you really selling something that's almost broken for such a high price?" Ivan glanced at him and bluntly pointed out.
The short male Wizard was taken aback for a moment, then became furious.
"Broken? This is perfectly fine! If you can't afford it, get lost!"
"Is it? I don't think so", Ivan said, taking ten Galleons from his pocket and placing them on the stall.
"Here are ten Galleons. How about we make a bet? Your Magic Power Ring can only be used twice, and its effect is less than half of what you claimed. If I lose, the money is yours. If I win, the Bracelet is mine."
The short male Wizard fell silent. In the few months he had been running the stall, many Wizards had noticed there was something wrong with the Bracelet, but none had been as precise as this.
He himself wasn't even sure how many times the Bracelet could be used, only that it was about to break.
"My family sells Magical Items."
Ivan explained, and the short male Wizard finally understood. After sizing him up for a moment, he said dejectedly,
"Sixty Galleons. Take it if you want. Maybe it can still be repaired."
"Six. I'm telling you with the most professional eye, it's only worth its research value", Ivan didn't understand market prices, so to avoid being cheated, he offered a tenth of the price.
The short male Wizard stared at him for a while, then spat out one word.
"Get lost!"
"Let's talk if the price is too low", Ivan didn't intend to leave, but he knew his previous offer was too harsh, so he softened his tone.
In the end, after a fierce negotiation, Ivan managed to get the Bracelet for thirty-five Galleons.
Did I make a profit, or did I lose out?
Ivan put the Bracelet on his left wrist, his mind constantly wrestling with this question. But thinking about the potentially valuable Runes on it, his mood improved.
As the sky grew darker, Ivan didn't visit any other stalls. Instead, he found Douglas, who was still playing cards at a small stall.
The stall owner appeared to be a Goblin, casually draped in a piece of tattered cloth, sitting on a tall stool. If it weren't for the Galleons on the table and the stall owner's position, Ivan might have mistaken him for a House-elf some Wizard had brought along.
"Did you lose?" Ivan approached and looked at the game, asking Douglas.
He didn't understand the rules of the Wizard card game, but he could tell from the expressions on the players' faces. The stall owner Goblin was smiling, while the other two players looked unhappy. The worst expression belonged to Douglas, whose features were almost twisted together.
