Chapter 102: But There's One Condition
Chapter 102: But There's One Condition
As usual, Rain didn't use the attribute points gained from leveling up.
As for the skill points, Rain couldn't decide where to allocate them at the moment, so he decided to keep them for later.
When Ragle finished the final step, she handed Rain a new dual-bladed greatsword that emanated a faint, radiant glow.
Upon seeing the brand-new greatsword, Rain's first impression was that it resembled the 'lightsaber' from his previous life's Star Wars, just not as bright.
However, something strange happened when Rain took the greatsword and swung it a few times. The faint glow gradually faded away.
It seemed that the radiant stone, which had been dazzlingly bright, dimmed after being integrated into the steel greatsword. However, upon closer inspection, one could see three wavy, exceptionally bright layers of patterns on the blade still emitting a faint glow.
Due to the addition of the radiant stone and star iron, the greatsword felt noticeably heavier, although it might also be because some impurities had been removed. Overall, the difference wasn't too significant.
With Rain's growing strength, the weight of the greatsword felt just right in his hands.
Additionally, he could clearly sense that the greatsword was different from before, not only becoming sharper but also possessing some other inexplicable quality.
"Rain, are you wondering why the glow of the radiant stone weapon is fading?" Ragle noticed Rain's surprise and asked.
"It is quite strange," Rain nodded.
"Radiant stone weapons only emit that faint glow when encountering evil; otherwise, they remain unlit. Of course, they do glow briefly after successful crafting." Ragle explained.
"By the way, Rain, aren't you going to name your greatsword? It's a radiant stone weapon!" Broris, standing nearby, couldn't hold back any longer and interrupted.
Upon hearing this, Ragle also nodded in agreement, "A radiant stone weapon indeed deserves a unique name."
Rain thought for a long time but had to admit that he was terrible at naming. In the end, he came up with one name.
"How about 'Radiant Greatsword'?"
Broris slapped his forehead, his expression conveying his disbelief.
Unexpectedly, Ragle nodded in approval, "Not bad, but we can change one word. How about 'Radiant Giant Sword'?"
Rain couldn't help but praise the name, "That's a great name!"
Broris stood speechless, his mouth moving but unable to form words. In his mind, he was screaming, 'Why didn't I think of that? Shouldn't my name be on it? At least it should be named 'Broris' Sword' or 'Broris' Evil-Slaying Greatsword'!
If only he had forged it himself, he would have undoubtedly named it 'Broris' Sword'.
After carefully wrapping the 'Radiant Greatsword' in soft sheepskin, Rain and Ragle bid farewell to Broris.
The sun had just passed its zenith, indicating it was around 1:00 PM.
Rain suddenly felt a gnawing hunger in his stomach. He had almost missed lunch, engrossed in the creation of his new weapon.
Due to Ragle's distinctive appearance and attire, Rain decided to take her with him. He stared at the bandage on her wrist and apologized, "Sorry, Ragle, this time I let you..."
Before he could finish, Ragle interrupted him.
"Rain, you saved my life. Forging a weapon for you is far from repaying my debt. You don't need to apologize." Ragle's deep blue eyes fixed on Rain as she spoke sincerely.
Ragle's words left Rain momentarily stunned.
Soon, Rain realized why Ragle would say such a thing.
He believed that he and Ragle had become friends, and the creation of the Radiant Greatsword was a manifestation of their friendship. However, in Ragle's eyes, it was a way to repay her life-saving gratitude.
Rain felt that this topic should be dropped; continuing might make him seem like he was seeking repayment for his kindness.
Thinking for a moment, Rain asked, "Ragle, what are your plans from now on?"
"I want to retrieve my brother's and others' weapons. If I can also find their remains, that would be even better." Ragle's face showed a mix of longing and sadness.
It was impossible not to feel sad. While retrieving the weapons might be possible, finding the remains was highly unlikely, given the numerous beasts and unknown creatures in the Night Song Forest.
Additionally, even if she wanted to retrieve the weapons, it would be challenging to do so alone.
"Why the weapons?" Rain asked, puzzled.
"In our barbarian legends, the warrior's soul resides within the weapon. Bringing the weapons back to the tribe allows the souls of the fallen warriors to return to the Hall of Heroes."
Rain nodded, thinking for a moment before offering comfort, "There's still a chance. Perhaps you'll fulfill this wish soon."
"There's a chance. You might achieve this soon."
Rain had faith in the Empire's official forces, otherwise he wouldn't have said what he did.
Upon hearing Rain's words, Ragle's eyes regained some of their former vitality. She pursed her lips and said, "Rain, I heard from Anna that you're a night watchman in Shangjin Town and that you're also familiar with Lord Hamilton. Could you help me with something?"
Even though Ragle hadn't yet said what the favor was, Rain already had a guess.
"You want to join the County City team to take down the Malefic Knight and avenge your brother, right?" Rain asked.
"Mhm!" Ragle nodded.
Rain remained silent, thinking to himself that her brother had fought to the death to protect her escape, not to see his sister return to such a dangerous place for revenge.
But Rain knew that if Ragle didn't get her revenge, she might live under the shadow of this incident for who knows how long.
And most importantly, if Ragle went with the County City team, there would be a certain level of safety.
So, Rain nodded and said, "I agree. This afternoon, I'll accompany you to meet Lord Hamilton, but I can't guarantee that he'll agree. Also, if it's the County City team, the commander most likely won't be Lord Hamilton."
"In other words, Lord Hamilton might not be able to make the decision."
Ragle nodded, making a sound of acknowledgment, and didn't say anything further.
After lunch, the two of them arrived at Lord Hamilton's office.
Lord Hamilton had long wanted to meet Ragle, the sole survivor of the bounty hunter team, to learn more about the Malefic Knight.
After a conversation, Ragle made her request.
However, upon hearing Ragle's request, Lord Hamilton frowned and said, "Ragle, I express my regret and sympathy for your ordeal. Currently, I don't know who exactly from County City will be coming, so I can't guarantee that they'll agree to let you join them."
"But I'll talk to them and ask them to bring back your brother's and teammates' weapons. Of course, if there are remains, I'll also help with the burial."
"Thank you, Lord Hamilton," Ragle said with a slight bow, expressing her gratitude.
After the two of them left Lord Hamilton's office, Rain said to Ragle, "I'm going to the training ground to practice archery. Want to come along?"
"Sure!" Ragle seemed to feel much better after getting things done, and her lively spirit as an eighteen or nineteen-year-old girl returned a bit.
When the two of them arrived at the training ground, Rain discovered that there were very few people in the field. Due to Lord Hamilton's heightened alert order, almost all the night watchmen and guards had been mobilized.
When it was time to practice archery, Rain discovered that Ragle's archery skills were far superior to his own.
The bandage on her wrist had been removed, revealing only a shallow scar on her wrist, a clear indication of the barbarian's exceptional physical qualities.
After practicing archery for a while, Ragle invited Rain to spar with her in close combat, which Rain was more than happy to do.
He had been looking for a suitable sparring partner to 'gain experience', and now he had found one.
Ragle chose an oak shield and an ironwood axe, and Rain naturally didn't use the 'micro-light giant sword' on his back but instead held the ironwood greatsword, and the two of them stood in the field.
"Come on!" Ragle said in a crisp voice.
"Then you'd better be careful," Rain said.
Rain kicked off with his left foot, quickly rushing towards Ragle. When he was three meters away from her, he leaped into the air, holding the greatsword and delivering a powerful downward slash.
This was the 'Leap Strike' of the Grizzly Sword Technique.
Just as Rain thought Ragle would surely dodge this powerful Leap Strike, she didn't retreat but instead moved forward, simultaneously raising her shield to meet the greatsword.
"Bang!"
A loud clash of sword and shield reverberated, and Rain, mid-air, felt a strong counter-shock from the greatsword, almost losing his grip on the hilt.
The shield's strike sent him flying back several meters.
This left Rain with a look of surprise as he stared at Ragle.
He had never encountered such a way to break the Leap Strike before.
"What's the matter, Rain? Are you surprised?" Ragle's face couldn't help but show a hint of a smile.
"If you encounter an opponent with strength and agility similar to yours, it wouldn't be difficult to block the Leap Strike."
"Moreover, I have a very well."
Ragle raised her shield.
A thought suddenly flashed through Rain's mind.
Why hadn't he thought of this before!
"Ragle, is this some kind of shield defense technique? Can you teach me?" Rain asked with anticipation.
Ragle's expression became strange upon hearing Rain's request, as if she was recalling, happy, and troubled, all at once.
But the next second, her eyes became firm.
Ragle smiled and said, "I can, but there's one condition!"
