Chapter 102: A Condition
Chapter 102: A Condition
As per usual, Reyn didn't use the attribute points gained from his level-up.
As for the skill points, Reyn couldn't decide where to allocate them for the time being.
So, he left them unused for now.
After Lagra finished the final step, she handed over a two-handed greatsword that emanated a faint radiant glow to Reyn.
Upon seeing the brand-new greatsword, Reyn's first impression was that it resembled the 'lightsaber' from his previous life's Star Wars, albeit not as bright.
However, what surprised him was that as he swung the greatsword a few times, the radiant glow gradually faded.
It seemed that the radiant stone, once integrated into the steel greatsword, began to dim its brilliance, but upon closer inspection, one could notice three wavy, exceptionally bright lines on the blade still emitting a faint glow.
"Reyn, are you wondering why the radiant stone's glow is fading?" Lagra noticed Reyn's bewilderment and asked.
Reyn had just realized that Lagra's archery skills were far superior to his own.
"Thank you, Lord Hamilton." Lagra bowed slightly, expressing her gratitude.
Reyn knew that if he didn't allow Lagra to take her revenge, she might live under the shadow of this incident for a long time, not knowing when she would be able to move on.
By then, the sun had just passed the zenith of the sky, and it was around 1 pm in the afternoon.
Lagra nodded in agreement, saying, "Indeed, radiant stone weapons deserve their own unique name."
"Sorry, Lagra, this time I'll..."
The shield strike sent the person flying back several meters.
With the integration of the radiant stone and star iron, the greatsword had noticeably gained some weight, although it could also be due to the removal of impurities during the reforging process, making the overall difference not too significant.
"Besides, I still have my trusty shield." Lagra held up the round shield in her hand.
After practicing archery for a while, Lagra invited Reyn to spar with her in close combat, which was exactly what Reyn had hoped for.
"If you encounter an opponent with strength and agility similar to yours, blocking the 'Leap Strike' won't be too difficult."
"In other words, even Lord Hamilton might not be able to decide the outcome."
"Boom!"
"Why a weapon?" Reyn asked, puzzled.
On the way, Reyn thought of something and turned to look at the bandage on Lagra's wrist, apologizing, "You'll have to be careful then."
This was the first time Reyn had encountered such a counter to the 'Leap Strike'.
As Reyn's strength continued to grow, the weight of the greatsword felt just right in his hands.
Reyn pondered for a while but had to admit that he wasn't good at naming things. Finally, he came up with a name.
"Hey, Reyn, aren't you going to name your greatsword? It's a radiant stone weapon!" Boris, standing nearby, couldn't hold back any longer and interjected as he saw the two preparing to leave.
After some conversation, Lagra made a request.
Additionally, he could clearly sense that the greatsword felt different than before; not only had it become sharper, but there was also an indescribable quality within it.
Boris, the blacksmith, stood by, speechless, mouthing words but unable to voice them.
Reyn had confidence in the Imperial official forces; otherwise, how could the Empire maintain such a vast territory?
"I want to retrieve my brother's and the others' weapons, and if I can find their remains, that would be even better." Lagra's face showed a mixture of longing and regret.
"A great name!" Reyn couldn't help but praise.
He believed that he and Lagra had become friends, and the creation of the radiant greatsword was a manifestation of their friendship. However, in Lagra's eyes, it was a way to repay Reyn for saving her life.
Lagra nodded and made a sound of agreement, but said no more.
Reyn thought that this topic might be too sensitive to continue, as it made him feel like he was trying to repay a debt of gratitude.
Unexpectedly, Lagra nodded, seeming to genuinely like the name, and said, "Not bad, but we can slightly modify it. How about 'Radiant Greatsword,' Reyn?"
Reyn thought, why bother exchanging it with the Quartermaster when there's a 'Master' of shield manipulation right in front of him!
Reyn kicked off with his left foot, rushing towards Lagra. When he was three meters away, he leaped into the air and delivered a powerful downward slash with the greatsword.
The perfect version is available at 69 Book Bar. 6 = 9 + Book Bar.
It was the 'Leap Strike' of the Bear Sword Technique.
This left Reyn with a look of surprise as he stared at Lagra.
After lunch.
"Great!" It seemed that after taking care of business, Lagra's mood had improved, and she regained some of her youthful, lively spirit.
"However, I'll talk to them and ask them to bring back your brother's and teammates' weapons. That shouldn't be a problem. Of course, if there are remains, they'll help with the burial as well."
Due to Lagra's distinctive appearance and attire, Reyn decided to take her home for lunch.
Although Lagra hadn't mentioned what kind of help she needed, Reyn already had his suspicions.
"How about calling it the Radiant Greatsword?"
In his heart, he was screaming, thinking that such a name should include his own name, so that it would be passed down for generations. At the very least, it should be named something like 'Rain's Sword' or 'Rain's Exorcism Greatsword'. Unfortunately, if he had crafted it himself, it would have definitely been named 'Boris' Sword'.
After carefully wrapping the 'Radiant Greatsword' in soft sheepskin, Rain bid farewell to Blacksmith Boris.
Rain nodded and said, "I promise you, I'll accompany you to meet Lord Hamilton this afternoon, but I can't guarantee that he will agree. Also, if it's the County City team, the commander is unlikely to be Lord Hamilton."
"It is indeed strange," Rain nodded.
Lagra chose an oak shield and an ironwood axe, and Rain also used the ironwood greatsword instead of the 'Radiant Greatsword' on his back. The two of them took their positions in the training ground.
After some thought, Rain turned to ask, "Lagra, what are your plans after this?"
Rain's words brought a glimmer of spirit back to Lagra's eyes. She pursed her lips and said, "Rain, I heard from Anna that you're a Watchman of Shiny Gold Town, and you're also familiar with Lord Hamilton. Could you help me with something?"
"What's the matter? Rain, are you surprised?" A smile appeared on Lagra's face involuntarily.
Lagra's words startled Rain for a moment.
Just as Rain thought Lagra would surely avoid his powerful leap strike, Lagra actually advanced instead of retreating. She jumped high into the air, raising her round shield to meet the greatsword.
He felt so foolish!
"The Sheriff, Lord Hamilton, has already reported the appearance of the Demon Knight to the County City and the Church. I believe someone will arrive in Shiny Gold Town soon to resolve this issue."
When the two arrived at the training ground, Rain noticed that there were very few people around. This was because of Lord Hamilton's order to increase vigilance, so almost all the watchmen and officers had been mobilized.
Additionally, even if she wanted to retrieve her weapon, it would be difficult for her to do so alone.
"Lagra, I feel sorry and sympathetic for your situation. Currently, I'm not sure which official is coming from the County City, so I can't guarantee that they will agree to your request to join them."
"Radiant Stone weapons only emit a faint glow when encountering evil force, and they don't usually show any light. Of course, they will briefly glow for a short time when they are successfully crafted," Lagra explained.
But before she could finish her sentence, Rain interrupted her.
All this time, he hadn't found a suitable person to gain experience from, and this situation had been temporarily vacant.
It was only now that Rain felt the pangs of hunger in his stomach. He had been so focused on forging the new weapon that he had almost missed lunch.
He had only realized it now!
For Lord Hamilton, he had long wanted to meet the sole survivor of the Bounty Hunter Squad, Lagra, to learn more about the Demon Knight from her.
In an instant, a flash of insight crossed Rain's mind.
The sound of a heavy sword and shield clashing filled the air. Rain, who was in mid-air, felt a powerful recoil from the greatsword, almost losing his grip on the hilt.
Soon, Rain realized why Lagra had said that.
"In our Barbarian legends, the warrior's soul is contained within their weapon. By bringing the weapon back, the soul of the fallen warrior will return to the Hall of Heroes."
Lagra untied the bandage on her wrist guard, revealing only a shallow scratch on her arm, a testament to the Barbarians' physical prowess.
Lagra tapped the ironwood axe against the oak shield and said in a crisp voice, "Come on!"
Most importantly, if Lagra were to accompany the County City team on this trip, there would be a certain level of safety assurance.
There was no way to avoid feeling regret. While the weapon might still be retrievable, the remains were most likely gone forever. The Night Song Forest was filled with countless beasts and unknown creatures.
Rain remained silent, thinking to himself that her brother had fought to protect her and didn't want to see his sister return to such a dangerous place.
However, upon hearing Lagra's request, Lord Hamilton frowned and said,
Boris listened and slapped his forehead, his expression showing his disbelief.
Rain nodded and said, "There's still a chance, and you might be able to fulfill your wish soon."
"Do you want to join the County City team to defeat the Demon Knight and avenge your brother?" Rain asked. "Yes!" Lagra nodded.
The two of them arrived at Lord Hamilton's office.
After leaving the office, Rain said to Lagra, "I'm going to the training ground to practice my archery skills. Would you like to join me?"
"Rain, you saved my life, and I made a weapon for you. I still owe you a debt of gratitude, so you don't need to apologize," Lagra said, her deep blue eyes fixed on Rain with sincerity.
"Lagra, is this a shield defense technique? Can you teach me?" Rain asked with a hint of anticipation.
"You want to learn?" Lagra's expression became strange upon hearing Rain's request, as if she was feeling a mix of emotions like reminiscence, happiness, and difficulty all at once.
But the next moment, her eyes became determined.
Lagra smiled and said, "Sure, but there's one condition!"
