Chapter 101: The Power of the Eight Gates Plus Rock Lee's Shout (25)
Chapter 101: The Power of the Eight Gates Plus Rock Lee's Shout (25)
Before leaving with Asuma, Mu Yue gave Hiruzen Sarutobi an appraisal. Curious about the self-proclaimed master of all Konoha ninjutsu, she wanted to see how extensive his skills were.
Name: Hiruzen Sarutobi
Chakra: 170,000
Skills: Combination Ninjutsu (Proficient: 13,000/15,000), Fire Chakra Nature Transformation (Proficient: 7,200/15,000), Earth Chakra Nature Transformation (Proficient: 6,000/15,000), Water Chakra Nature Transformation (Proficient: 4,800/15,000)...
Hiruzen's skill list was indeed impressive, filled with countless techniques. Mu Yue estimated that he knew well over a thousand jutsu.
In terms of quantity, he certainly lived up to his reputation. After all, without the Sharingan to copy techniques, he had to learn each one diligently by himself.
However, most of the jutsu were only at the beginner or intermediate levels of proficiency. Only a small fraction was at the proficient level, but Mu Yue still considered it formidable. She recognized many advanced and even secret jutsu among them.
In terms of nature transformation, Hiruzen had achieved proficiency in all five basic natures, although his mastery varied. His fire-style jutsu were the most refined, while the others were somewhat less developed.
"It seems the system's standard for proficiency is even higher than I imagined," Mu Yue thought to herself.
In terms of water and fire chakra nature transformation alone, she had already surpassed Hiruzen's level.
Of course, in a real fight, the current Hiruzen would easily defeat her. His chakra reserves, taijutsu skills, combat experience, and jutsu repertoire far outclassed hers.
Seeing Hiruzen's status panel, Mu Yue truly understood the meaning of a versatile ninja. His arsenal encompassed ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu, fuinjutsu, secret techniques, and even kinjutsu.
Regarding Hiruzen's status, Mu Yue could only describe it as awe-inspiring.
After teaching Asuma, Mu Yue returned to the main district of Konoha. She called upon Minato and Kushina and demonstrated the entire process of making Magical Mapo Tofu.
As they had wished, Minato and Kushina witnessed the magical transformation of beans into "meat."
Even after watching the cooking process and tasting the dish, Kushina still found it fascinating.
"Mu Yue, how did you come up with the idea of making beans taste like meat?" Kushina asked curiously.
"It was a sudden stroke of genius," Mu Yue replied after a moment's thought.
She couldn't very well tell them that someone else had taught her these dishes, as that would only raise more questions. So, she decided to take credit for their creation.
Minato then inquired about Mu Yue's progress in fuinjutsu. It had been almost a week since he last provided her with a new sealing technique to study.
Mu Yue shared some of her initial thoughts on the Five-Seal Barrier Technique.
"The Five-Seal Barrier is significantly more complex than the Three-Seal Barrier," Minato explained. "With more study and practice, you'll gradually master it."
The Five-Seal Barrier Technique was notably more challenging than the previous sealing techniques Mu Yue had learned. Minato was concerned that the sudden increase in difficulty might discourage her if she didn't see progress.
Mu Yue nodded, and the conversation naturally shifted to fuinjutsu. She took the opportunity to ask about some of the challenges she had encountered in her studies.
However, Mu Yue's questions were not about specific techniques but rather general knowledge regarding fuinjutsu. She refrained from asking about her current struggles with the Five-Seal Barrier, as Minato and Kushina's expertise in sealing techniques might lead them to deduce her actual progress.
On the weekend, Mu Yue's disciples were off-duty, so she trained alone in the Southern Forest.
"Five-Seal Barrier!"
Mu Yue channeled chakra into the five fingers of her right hand and performed the technique on her shadow clone.
Black sealing marks appeared on the clone's body, indicating the success of the technique.
"Next up is the Five Elements Seal," Mu Yue said to herself.
However, Mu Yue wasn't concerned. He didn't learn sealing just to expand his repertoire but to address the issue with the cursed seal, the Tongue Curse Root.
Once he reached the entry-level in the Five Elements Seal, he planned to use proficiency scrolls to raise it to a proficient level before learning the Contract Seal and then improving that to proficiency as well.
With two proficient-level sealing techniques, his knowledge in that area would increase significantly, and he would be in a better position to research the Root's cursed seal.
Mu Yue walked deeper into the forest, his senses heightened by a perception jutsu. Today, he wanted to test the limits of his newfound strength.
It had been a month since he achieved proficiency in the Rock Breath.
Once one attained entry-level in a breathing technique, they could employ full concentration breathing to significantly enhance their capabilities temporarily. Proficiency in Rock Breath, however, meant that his body was constantly in a weakened version of the full concentration breathing state, leading to continuous self-improvement.
For Mu Yue, this constant state of Rock Breath was crucial, as it was like his body was perpetually engaged in rigorous training.
Over the past month, he could distinctly feel his body growing stronger, an improvement far superior to what he could achieve through mere taijutsu practice.
Even his natural chakra recovery rate had increased slightly due to his enhanced physical condition.
With his body growing stronger by the day, Mu Yue decided to experiment with combining the Eight Inner Gates with Rock Breath.
He had mastered the first three gates of the Eight Inner Gates, which were considered the safe zone, as they didn't exert too much pressure on the body.
"Open, open!" Mu Yue exclaimed, channeling his chakra to activate the first gate. Unlike Maito Gai, he lacked an innate talent for the Eight Inner Gates and had to start from the beginning.
As he opened the gates, Mu Yue felt as if a restriction within him had been lifted, and his chakra, no longer held back, surged forth. His body strengthened, and his speed and strength increased significantly.
When he opened the third gate, the Life Gate, his body turned crimson, his chakra skyrocketed, and green energy radiated from him.
Out of curiosity, Mu Yue performed an appraisal on himself in this state.
Name: Mu Yue
Chakra: 23,200
His chakra had broken through the 20,000 mark, but Mu Yue could sense that it was currently too wild and unruly for delicate techniques or jutsu.
Expecting this, he took a deep breath, entering the full concentration breathing state of Rock Breath, further enhancing his physical prowess.
Mu Yue casually threw a punch, and the mere force of the wind from his fist knocked over a dozen large trees.
Without infusing his chakra, he could crush rocks as if they were tofu.
His running speed was akin to using the Body Flicker Technique.
"Huff," Mu Yue exhaled, dispelling the effects of the Eight Inner Gates and Rock Breath. A wave of exhaustion washed over him.
The combination of the Eight Inner Gates and Rock Breath was indeed formidable, but the strain it put on his body was immense. Mu Yue dared not push himself too far, lest he attract the attention of Anbu or Root members with the commotion.
Despite the brief experiment, he could feel the weight of the fatigue. Even without using the Cursed Seal, he felt like he might pass out if he had continued any longer.
This test proved his hypothesis—Rock Breath and the Eight Inner Gates complemented each other well and raised his ceiling.
With this new ace up his sleeve, Mu Yue felt a slight increase in his sense of security.
Aside from his lack of chakra and combat experience, he now had a decent array of techniques at his disposal.
"I've more or less finished crafting the training regimen," Mu Yue thought. "It's time to begin instructing my disciples in breathing techniques."
