Chapter 1009: A New Beginning (Complete)
Chapter 1009: A New Beginning (Complete)
Over the past month, Ivan continuously shuttled between the real world and the Wizarding World, communicating with powerful conglomerates and influential politicians.
During his last participation in the International Confederation of Wizards, Ivan realized a crucial lesson: for matters of great importance, it was best to have discussions before the official meeting began, at the very least to reach an agreement with a few key figures.
If he couldn’t do that, the meeting was bound to be fruitless.
However, convincing these giants, who held vast power and resources, was no easy task. Fortunately, Ivan was not one to be underestimated. With the perceptual abilities of Legilimency, a combination of inducements and threats rarely failed.
After all, he held three decisive cards!
The first card was the potion that could turn Muggles into Wizards, along with the Elixir of Life!
The former represented power, especially after Ivan summoned a massive tornado in France to decimate a modern army. Those in the know, including Presidents and Prime Ministers, understood the true might of magic. If given the chance, no one would refuse the opportunity to become a Wizard.
The Elixir of Life was even more potent. The leaders of major financial empires and political dynasties were all on the verge of old age. For them, the most pressing concern was to continue living. Without life, all the power and wealth in the world were meaningless.
Of course, Ivan wouldn’t casually waste the power of the Philosopher’s Stone. He had no good feelings towards these financial and political figures. The Elixir of Life was merely a bait he deliberately dangled.
Once his plan was successfully completed, he would reclaim everything they took from him, and more!
The second card was Ivan’s position as the President of the International Confederation of Wizards—he could make decisions on behalf of the entire Wizarding World.
In the current fragmented political landscape of the Muggle world, Wizards, as a newly reorganized force, had the capability to influence and interfere with the balance of power among nations.
Even the world’s recognized superpower, America, had to carefully consider every proposal from this Confederation President.
If all the threats and inducements failed, Ivan had one last Ace in the Hole: the ability to flip the table!
For those insatiable and stubborn individuals who sought to extract more benefits from him, Ivan would use his exclusive method. A single Imperius Curse, followed by a memory modification using Legilimency, would solve the problem perfectly.
However, this method couldn’t be overused. The Imperius Curse would gradually wear off over time, and memory modifications were not as reliable as one might think. People’s minds could change, and he didn’t have the luxury of monitoring so many individuals simultaneously.
Furthermore, if news of his use of the Imperius Curse to control these giants were to leak, it would have dire consequences and hinder the implementation of his plan.
“Is something wrong?” Ivan, who had just ‘persuaded’ a stubborn individual, noticed the hesitant expressions of the Aurors by his side as he stepped out.
Ivan didn’t mind and smiled, asking, “Do you think my methods are a bit too aggressive?”
A bit too aggressive… The warlocks exchanged glances, their expressions peculiar. They had witnessed firsthand how Ivan coerced and bribed the other party to accept his proposals, and when negotiations broke down, he resorted to the Imperius Curse… They almost thought the International Alliance President was a Dark Wizard in disguise.
Ivan was well aware of what these people were thinking and sighed helplessly. He knew that his actions would likely cause some unnecessary misunderstandings. He immediately patted their shoulders and began to explain the concept of embracing the darkness to serve the light.
Just because they had dealt with Grindelwald, the conflict between Wizards and Muggles still existed. If this issue wasn't resolved, there would be more Grindelwalds in the future. Everything he was doing now was to solve this problem once and for all.
"This is like when I led you to attack the Ministry of Magic in France and capture Grindelwald. If we had followed the normal procedures, holding meetings and discussions to obtain a search warrant, it would have taken at least three days. There was no guarantee that the news wouldn't leak, and if Grindelwald managed to escape and launch a war, it would result in even greater casualties..."
As Ivan continued to explain—oh, not to mention, to persuade—the several Warlocks finally understood the President's well-intentioned motives and the necessity of using the Imperius Curse in violation of the rules.
Ivan saw the change in their thoughts and nodded in satisfaction. He had too much to do recently, and Fenrir and others had been dispatched to various parts of the world to capture Grindelwald's followers. He urgently needed to cultivate a few trustworthy and eager young Warlocks to help him.
...
A month passed in the blink of an eye, and the long-prepared World Joint Meeting was successfully held at the Ministry of Magic in Britain.
Since the major issues had already been discussed in advance, the initial stages of the meeting went smoothly without much resistance.
The major powers all readily agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The combination of science and magic sounded highly promising, possibly even triggering an industrial revolution and a new wave of technological breakthroughs. They would certainly not and could not refuse.
Not to mention, Ivan presented some tangible results, such as the Flying Motorbike and the Knight Bus, proving that the integration of science and magic was entirely feasible.
Some Presidents, whose minds were preoccupied with armaments and war, were already considering whether the Solidifying Levitation Charm used on the Flying Motorbike could be applied to airplanes, significantly reducing the weight of the aircraft, consuming less fuel, and carrying more explosives.
As for the issues of the limited magical reserves and the small number of Wizards, Ivan believed that with the continuous development of new Wizarding Potions, these problems would gradually be resolved.
Before that, Ivan did not want to openly reveal the existence of Wizards and the Wizarding World. Instead, he planned to release information gradually to test the waters, avoiding large-scale conflicts. The complete public disclosure of Wizards would likely have to wait until the fully developed Wizarding Potion was completed and his ongoing development of the Magical Network Device was operational.
After the broad outlines of cooperation were agreed upon, the negotiations over the contract details became much more challenging. The negotiation experts brought by the various Presidents and Prime Ministers spared no effort to secure more benefits for their countries, even setting aside their grievances and tacitly joining forces to pressure Ivan, the President of the International Alliance.
The entire meeting took over half a month to finalize all the details...
When the meeting officially ended, and the Presidents walked out of the International Alliance building with the signed contracts, they all had a premonition.
A new era was about to begin...
