Chapter 1008: A New Beginning (Part 7)
After a friendly conversation, Ivan left six Aurors to serve as Seton’s guards and took everyone back to the French Ministry of Magic to clean up the mess.
Although Gellert Grindelwald, the main culprit, had been defeated, many of the problems he left behind still remained.
The most urgent task was to quickly select a new French Minister to end the current chaos in the French Wizarding World.
Fortunately, Ivan had experience with this. After a thorough investigation, he used Legilimency to find the most pragmatic and well-disposed candidate among the contenders: the Director of the Department of Magical Cooperation. This individual was appointed as the new Minister of Magic.
The disturbance caused by the massive tornado at the Palace of Versailles was also handled. All Muggle officials who knew the truth were subjected to a Memory Charm, and the ignorant public was easily pacified. With the help of experts and the media, the incident was soon portrayed as a common natural disaster.
After resolving all these issues, Colin Morton and his team, who had returned to the International Confederation of Wizards to report, hesitated for a moment before finally speaking up.
"Lord Hals, was it really okay for us to treat the French President that way?"
Ivan glanced at him and patiently explained, "Don't forget, Captain Morton, this is a special time. Imagine if we had tried to persuade President Seton with polite words. Would he have listened to us and cooperated with our actions?"
Colin Morton thought about it and found himself at a loss for words. If Ivan hadn’t taken such a strong stance, Seton would have never agreed to increase the number of Aurors as personal guards, leaving the still-at-large Acolytes a chance to strike again.
Without full official cooperation, the two riots in Paris would not have been so easily quelled.
Of course, as a wizard, Colin Morton was not particularly concerned about the mental health of the French President. He had brought up the matter to subtly hint that the Grandmaster had violated no fewer than seventeen Icw Regulations that day.
...
The next morning, news of Ivan’s surprise attack on the French Ministry of Magic, successfully executing the decapitation strategy and killing Dark Lord Grindelwald, spread throughout the Wizarding World.
The Daily Prophet, European Times, and the International Magical Exchange Society, among other major newspapers, spared no effort in praising Ivan’s quick thinking and decisive action.
Ordinary wizards, upon hearing the news, breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Since Grindelwald’s escape two years ago, the once harmonious Wizarding World had inevitably fallen into chaos. News of Acolytes attacking Muggles and Muggle-borns, and even Half-blood wizards, had become commonplace in the newspapers. As a result, fewer wizards ventured outside, and the entire Wizarding World was in a state of unease.
What frightened them even more was Grindelwald’s recent impersonation of the North American Minister of Magic, which led to a violent attack on the Congress Building and the deaths of several Ministers of Magic. Many wise wizards had pessimistically concluded that the Second Wizarding War was inevitable.
However, the chaotic situation began to change rapidly after Ivan took office as Acting President. Numerous troublemaking Death Eaters were sent to prison, and even Dark Lord Grindelwald could not escape his fate, dying in a duel. This swift and decisive law enforcement stood in stark contrast to the ineffectiveness of previous Ministers of Magic.
Almost overnight, Ivan's reputation soared, and under the media's praise, he was hailed as the undisputed strongest Wizard and the new Savior of the Wizarding World!
All of Ivan's previous legendary deeds were dug up and filled the pages of newspapers.
Amidst the overwhelming praise, there were inevitably some dissenting voices. For instance, the Nordic Magical Times insinuated with a sardonic tone that a certain Acting President had abused his power, launching an unauthorized war against the French Ministry of Magic without consulting the Wizarding Congress or other countries, resulting in numerous innocent casualties.
Ivan would not tolerate such baseless and malicious media, and he dealt with them harshly, ensuring they were silenced.
Another noteworthy point is that the System Task "Dominate the Magic World" was finally completed!
Mission Objective: Dominate the Magic World
Mission Progress: 100%
Mission Reward: Legend Points * 5 (Claim?)
Mission Description: To gain dominion over the entire Wizarding World, you cunningly used Grindelwald to eliminate political rivals and slaughter opponents, extending your influence to every corner of the globe. Now, with your power firmly established, it's time to reveal your true intentions and bring the entire world under your control!
Even though Ivan had mentally prepared himself, reading the Mission Description on the System Bar still made him feel a mix of amusement and exasperation. A certain suspicion in his mind began to waver.
How could he possibly have a mission as ridiculously middle-school-like as this...
Ivan silently complained in his mind and then claimed the reward.
Five Legend Points were enough to exchange for the "Protection Mode" and fuse with another bloodline, but considering that there was currently no one in the world who could match him, Ivan did not rush into it. Instead, he decided to thoroughly study the materials left by Slytherin and carefully select the most suitable bloodline from all the magical creatures...
In addition, Ivan did not forget the pressing matter at hand: preparing for the upcoming meeting in a month. Over the next few days, he was busy non-stop, and the first thing to do was to remove the "Acting" from his title and become the true President of the International Confederation of Wizards.
This was not a difficult task. His feat of killing Grindelwald and stopping the war was enough to silence any Wizards who had previously questioned him. The only challenge was how to unify the Will of the entire Wizarding World.
Although he was now the nominal highest leader of the Wizarding World, if he were to rashly challenge the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, he would face opposition from conservative forces and might even be labeled as a Public Enemy, a second Grindelwald.
Fortunately, Ivan had never intended to achieve his goals in a single leap. The Elixir of Life provided him with a long lifespan, allowing him the patience to spend decades or even centuries promoting the integration of Wizards and Muggles.
The upcoming meeting was just the beginning, and the timing was perfect.
Both major magical nations, Britain and France, were under his control. The new Presidents of North America and Imperial Russia were still consolidating their power and desperately needed his support, making them easy to sway.
The President of the Asian Association was a smart individual and would not dare to openly oppose him. Even if he had some reservations, he would not be able to cause significant trouble.
After all, the most elite Wizards of the Wizarding World were part of the newly formed Rapid Response Teams, under the control of the Magic Mark. Coupled with the immense prestige he gained from slaying Grindelwald, Ivan had earned the opportunity to represent the entire Wizarding World and negotiate with the leaders of Muggle nations!
