Chapter 1007: A New Beginning (Part 6)
Seton plopped down into the chair, his eyes fixed on the small warlock in front of him, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He forced himself to remain calm and asked, "What exactly do you want?!"
"I believe I already made it clear, President Sir. We are here to assist you", Ivan repeated, raising an eyebrow.
Hearing Ivan's words, Seton's face twitched. He glanced at the guards lying unconscious on the ground...
This is called help?
Ivan, of course, could see through Seton's thoughts and explained kindly, "You don't need to worry too much. They are just temporarily unconscious, with no danger to their lives..."
Am I supposed to thank you for that? Seton was both furious and exasperated. But the thought of the other man effortlessly overwhelming a modern army of thousands, surviving a hail of bullets, and even reducing a sniper bullet to ashes made him swallow his words.
There was no choice; the situation was out of his hands. To put it bluntly, his life now hung in the balance at the other man's whim.
Under Ivan's benevolent gaze, Seton forced a politician's fake smile and said, albeit reluctantly, "Since they are fine, I am relieved. I truly owe you a debt of gratitude for helping me expose their treacherous intentions this time..."
"This is my duty, Seton Master. As the President of the International Confederation of Wizards, my responsibility is to maintain peace in both the Wizarding World and the real world!" Ivan replied humbly.
Seton thought back to the mysterious giant tornado that appeared in Paris and the missing advance forces. For a moment, he was at a loss for words, concluding that Ivan's notion of "peace" might differ from his own.
The only consolation was that the other party seemed to have no intention of harming him.
Realizing this, Seton's heart, which had been racing, finally calmed down. He mustered the dignity befitting a President and engaged in a "friendly and amiable" conversation with the man who had just incapacitated a group of guards.
Ivan took this opportunity to recount how Grindelwald had escaped from Nurmengard Prison and, with a group of fanatical followers, was causing chaos in the European Wizarding World, aiming to incite a war between Muggles and Wizards.
Ivan, skilled in Legilimency, knew that President Seton had been duped by Grindelwald, who was masquerading as a representative of the French Ministry of Magic. Seton was unaware of Grindelwald's true nature, which was why Ivan was willing to explain so much to him.
While Seton did not fully believe Ivan's account, he put on a show of indignation, harshly condemning Grindelwald and his followers. He then subtly hinted that he was exhausted from recent events and needed a good rest.
Ivan, of course, understood that this was a polite way of asking him to leave. No one wants someone who can decide their fate lingering around.
However, Ivan feigned ignorance and continued, "Apart from dealing with these Wizards who seek to incite war, I have two more matters to discuss with you."
"Please go on. What are they?" Seton immediately assumed a serious listening posture.
"First, in one month, I will be hosting a global meeting at the British Ministry of Magic. I will invite leaders from all countries to discuss the future of the Magic and non-Magic worlds", Ivan said confidently.
Seton's expression changed. Although he had learned some information about Wizards from Grindelwald, he had always been particularly wary of these people who wielded such magical power.
The warlock who had brazenly stormed into the President's office now demanded that Seton leave France in a month to attend a so-called leaders' meeting. Naturally, Seton was extremely reluctant.
"Is this known to the other member states of North America and the European Union?" Seton dared not openly oppose.
"The President of North America and the Presidency of the European Union have already agreed. The other member states' leaders have likely received my invitation as well", Ivan said, his eyes fixed on Seton with a meaningful gaze. "I don't think anyone will refuse!"
Seton's pupils constricted, a chill running through his heart.
Fenrir, who stood behind him, and the newly arrived Colin Morton and others were completely baffled. They had no idea about this global meeting a month from now, nor when Ivan had notified those Muggle leaders.
But the moment they recalled that Ivan was the Acting President of the International Confederation of Wizards and the most powerful figure in the Wizarding World, Colin Morton and the others fell silent. If Ivan said there was a meeting, then there probably was one.
"Very well, I will attend", Seton replied, his reluctance clear. He consoled himself inwardly that if Ivan truly intended to harm him, he wouldn't wait a month to do so.
Seeing Seton nod, Ivan's face softened into a gentle smile. He reached into his sleeve, transformed a button into an invitation, and placed it on the desk to show his sincerity. He then continued.
"As for the second matter, it concerns your safety! Grindelwald is dead, but his followers remain hidden in the shadows. Over the next few months, the International Confederation of Wizards will increase the number of guards to protect you."
"That won't be necessary. We are capable of protecting ourselves", Seton quickly interjected.
After witnessing Ivan's incredible power at the Élysée Palace, Seton was deeply wary of the Wizards' magical abilities and did not want additional eyes monitoring him.
"Is that so? I believe these guards are not sufficient to ensure your safety", Ivan said, glancing at the guardians on the floor who had failed to even defend themselves against a single move.
Seton's expression darkened, and Ivan continued. "Grindelwald's acolytes are extremely cruel Dark Wizards, skilled in many insidious Dark Magic spells."
"For example, they can cast the Curse of Doom using a single hair as a medium, turn a living person into an Inferi, or use the Imperius Curse to control your personal secretary to carry out an assassination..."
With each word from Ivan, Seton's face grew paler. He tried to imagine what it would be like to face a group of Wizards bent on his assassination.
In the face of such dark magic, even hiding in an underground nuclear bunker would offer little protection.
In the end, Seton had no choice but to reluctantly agree to Ivan's decision to send guards to "protect" him.
