Chapter 1002: The King's Fear
Chapter 1002: The King's Fear
"Hmm, these two are really something."
Youxuan said, walking along while propping his chin in his hand.
Eye exaggeratedly remarked, "‘Really something’ is a massive understatement! Your companions are practically monsters! One pulls out a Gigantgod at the drop of a hat, and the other goes even further, fusing with Yeshen. This, this, this—"
Youxuan had anticipated that the three might split up once they entered the domain, so he had already left a Spirit Card with Jou and Kaiba as a lookout. With his current abundance of spirits, ever since the Spirit Hunter had delivered a batch of them, he now had an entire army at his disposal.
Some of these spirits had already been returned to their rightful owners through the Kaiba Corporation, while others were still being tracked down. Many more had chosen to stay by Youxuan's side voluntarily.
Thanks to these spirits, he could keep tabs on his teammates in real time.
"Calm down, calm down", Youxuan said. "It’s just standard procedure."
Eye: "."
But to be fair, even knowing these two were overpowered, this still seemed a bit excessive by their standards.
Kaiba, for one, had unexpectedly gone into seclusion and managed to summon a Gigantgod. This was a surprise even to Youxuan.
It wasn't that it was shocking for Gigantgod to answer Kaiba's call, given that in the original story, Gigantgod was bound to Kaiba as a divine being. What was surprising was that Kaiba didn't have Gigantgod during the Duel City GX tournament when he aimed to become the Duel King, defeat his long-time rival, and save the world. If he had Gigantgod back then, there would have been no reason to keep it hidden.
So, it was clear that Kaiba didn't have Gigantgod at that time. Perhaps it was still in development, or maybe seeing Youxuan summon Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress, made Kaiba reconsider the power of the gods. Regardless, Gigantgod must have been completed sometime between the end of that tournament and now.
It seemed that the President, despite being out of sight, had been busy all along.
As for Jou, things were even more impressive.
Jou had surpassed the original story's max level. Not only had he reclaimed You Bei, but he had also fully absorbed the Emperor's power. From the looks of it, this wasn't through a violent conquest but through the traditional method of a passionate anime protagonist, converting the other side and receiving their power willingly.
This method of obtaining the Emperor's power made it even more pure and better synchronized with Jou.
The evidence was in the Ultra Fusion card Jou had just played, which fused Yeshen without discrimination. The resulting monster, the Neo Universe Tyrant, symbolized the complete synchronization between Jou and the Emperor, transforming into the Evilheart Neo Universe Hero.
In the anime, while Jou eventually claimed the Emperor's power, all the Evilheart series monsters had vanished, and there was no Synchro like the Neo Universe Tyrant.
"But the Synchro condition is the Neo Universe Hero plus any effect monster on the field", Youxuan couldn't help but mumble.
That essentially meant no restrictions, right?
So the Neo Universe Hero could use any monster on the opponent's field as Synchro material. It suddenly reminded him of his own Lava Golem.
No, that's not right. It's Jou's exceptional insight and card design that made this possible, not anything related to him.
Youxuan stopped and stood still in the Darkness.
It looked like the same silent Darkness they had encountered throughout their journey, but Youxuan sensed that he had reached the deepest part of the domain, near the enemy he sought.
A voice seemed to echo from the void.
"Welcome, Duel King, Fuji Yuuken."
"Welcome to the playground of Darkness and fear."
Yuuken looked ahead, seeing tendrils of Darkness rising from the ground, transforming into humanoid forms. The blurry outlines of these figures all glared at him with eyes filled with hatred and a desire to kill.
Yuuken recognized the two figures at the forefront.
Insect Moth and Dinosaur Ryuzaki.
"It's you", Ryuzaki spat with fury. "If not for you, I wouldn't have ended up like this."
Moth added angrily, "Even if I am consumed by Darkness, even if I become a ghost, I will never forget you."
Yuuken smiled. "You're mistaken. I've never even met this guy."
The other figures that appeared seemed to be those who had once been defeated by him or at least suffered at his hands. Their words were repetitive, filled with phrases like "You took my Xxx", "Demon", and "I'll never forgive you."
But Yuuken paid them no mind, saying, "I've seen this before. Honestly, if you think a few curses from my defeated enemies are the deepest Darkness in my heart, then the Darkness in my heart today would make even Great Yeshen Zok take a detour."
He laughed. "And you're so unoriginal. Really, it's the same old boring lines. To be honest, these people have said far worse to my face."
Yeshen: "."
Yeshen was silent for a moment, then let out a heavy snort. All the shadows around them vanished, turning into wisps of smoke. Yuuken felt his feet leave the ground, his body falling into an endless void.
Yeshen's voice continued, "Your heart does indeed contain an immense Darkness, a Darkness that surpasses that of ordinary humans. It seems we need to delve deeper."
Yuuken's body gradually stopped falling, but he didn't land on solid ground. This time, he felt as if he was floating in water, the cold, piercing Darkness flowing through his fingers, a chill seeping into the depths of his soul.
"Ha, you're afraid."
Yeshen's voice said.
"This is the deepest Darkness in your heart. The greatest human, the King of the Duel world, who is revered as the pinnacle, is afraid."
"Tell me, what are you afraid of?"
"Are you afraid of losing?"
"Are you afraid of losing your position as King?"
"Are you afraid that even as King, you can't protect the world as it is?"
"Or are you afraid... of us?"
The moment the last syllable fell, a colossal force erupted in the Darkness.
An overwhelming pressure filled the space, forming three immense shadows. The Yeshen with the long, thrashing tail let out a sharp cry, the Root of Fear, clad in a suit of bone armor, embodied the ultimate terror, and the Divine Incarnate, like a black sun, hung in the center.
The combined pressure from the three Yeshen was so overwhelming that it seemed to crush everything into dust!
Yuuken lifted his head, staring directly at the three Yeshen radiating this pressure.
Then he suddenly laughed.
Yeshen growled, "What's so funny?"
"Sorry, nothing... but you're right. Yes, I have Darkness in my heart, and I am afraid. But not of you."
Yuuken smiled lightly and said, "Since you're so determined to know what I fear... I'll indulge you and show you."
A strange light flickered in his eyes as he laughed.
"But be prepared... you might be scared."
