Chapter 100: The Five Kage Assembly
Chapter 100: The Five Kage Assembly
Konoha Village.
The morning of the second day.
Yamanaka Ino was on her way to the Konoha Hospital, yawning as she prepared to continue her training in medical ninjutsu. Along the way, she once again ran into Haruno Sakura, who was also yawning and looking equally exhausted.
Ino took the initiative to greet Sakura, "Good morning, Sakura. You didn't sleep well last night either?"
Sakura nodded, "Yeah, I kept feeling like there were people walking on the roof."
Ino empathized, "I had a similar experience. Many of my clan members, including my father, were awakened and asked to leave during the night. I wonder what's going on; it's hard to get a good night's rest with all this commotion."
Although the two girls showed great potential, they were still only genin and were unaware of the significant events that had transpired the night before.
However, that was about to change.
Soon, two Anbu ninja appeared before them, requesting their cooperation in an investigation and asking numerous questions about Dr. Cangjie.
Sakura and Ino exchanged glances, filled with surprise and confusion.
What exactly had happened?
Iron Country, the venue for the Five Kage Summit.
Tsunade, along with Shizune and Naruto, had traveled day and night without rest to reach the Iron Country. After meeting with the Raikage, they took a well-deserved rest. The following day, as planned, they joined the other four Kage, who had arrived one after the other, and proceeded to the specially prepared conference room in the Iron Country to officially convene the long-awaited second Five Kage Summit.
When Tsunade and her companions arrived, the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki, was already seated, with Kitsuchi and Kurotsuchi standing behind him.
"It's been a long time, Onoki," Tsunade greeted with a hearty laugh.
During the Great Ninja War, she, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru had often crossed paths with the Iwagakure ninja when they were still a team.
There was one instance where they were surrounded by Iwagakure ninja, and the situation was dire. Orochimaru had suggested killing the severely injured Jiraiya, a suggestion that Tsunade remembered vividly.
If she recalled correctly, Onoki had been the commander of that Iwagakure unit.
Hearing Tsunade's greeting, Onoki looked up and replied with a smile, "Tsunade, I never expected you to become the Hokage."
"Things don't always go as planned," Tsunade said as she walked towards the Hokage's seat. "Just like how you, Old Man Onoki, are still the Tsuchikage."
Onoki sighed and shook his head. "What can I say? Not every village is as blessed with talent as Konoha."
"But you have new blood here," Tsunade said, glancing at Kitsuchi, whom she had met before, and then at Kurotsuchi.
"This is my granddaughter," Onoki said. "She's just here to observe, so no need to praise her."
Despite his words, the smile on Onoki's face as he spoke was much brighter than before, clearly indicating how proud he was of Kurotsuchi.
"Granddaughter? She doesn't look like you at all," a quiet voice suddenly piped up in the conference room.
The speaker was none other than Naruto.
Initially overwhelmed by the reality of the Five Kage Summit, and thinking about the fact that he would soon be meeting the legendary Kage, Naruto was both excited and nervous. This caused him to be less boisterous than usual upon entering the room.
However, after adjusting to the atmosphere and realizing that the legendary Tsuchikage was just a kind old man, Naruto relaxed. When he heard Onoki mention that Kurotsuchi was his granddaughter, he couldn't help but make a serious comparison between the two, and then, with a look of disbelief, he quietly voiced his true thoughts.
But in a room full of sharp-eared ninja...
Instantly!
Onoki's bright smile froze; Tsunade struggled to hold back her laughter and looked away; Shizune forced herself to maintain her composure; and Kitsuchi quietly took a step back.
The last to react was Kurotsuchi, who looked at Naruto, who was younger than her, with a half-amused, half-annoyed expression, and asked, "Brat, who are you?"
Hitomi looked at Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage and idol of nearly every female ninja, with a bewildered expression.
Knowing more about the situation than the naive Naruto, she found it incomprehensible that Tsunade would bring someone as immature and goofy as him to this assembly.
How could someone like this gain her recognition?
Compared to Hitomi, Ohnoki knew even more.
Setting aside Naruto's bluntness for now, he examined Naruto seriously.
"Naruto Uzumaki... the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails. How interesting that Tsunade has taken a liking to him. I wonder if Konoha will agree?"
Naruto's identity as the Nine-Tails' Jinchuriki was no longer a secret after the Chunin Exams.
Due to the difficulty in controlling the power of their tailed beasts, Jinchuriki often experienced tragic and hateful childhoods.
With the capabilities of the Five Great Shinobi Villages, it was easy to determine that Naruto was indeed the Nine-Tails' Jinchuriki after a little investigation.
"Just as rumored, he's quite reckless," Ohnoki remarked as he glanced at Tsunade.
Bringing a Jinchuriki to the Kage Summit was not as simple and carefree as it seemed on the surface.
During this time, Naruto, who was only a few years older than Hitomi, kept bickering with her.
Before long, the Fourth Raikage, Ay, who had lost an arm, entered the room with Darui and Che. He scanned the room and, noticing the youngest and least renowned Naruto, gave a quizzical look but remained silent and took his seat.
Soon after, the group from Kirigakure arrived.
Similar to the previous arrivals, the Fifth Mizukage, Mei Terumi, looked curiously at the youngest attendee, who was also from Konoha. Unlike the others, she didn't remain silent but instead smiled and asked, "And who might this handsome young man with golden hair be?"
"Golden hair? Handsome? Are you talking about me?" Naruto exclaimed, pointing at himself in surprise.
When he received an affirmative response, it was the first time he had been complimented in such a way, and he couldn't help but beam with joy, though he also seemed a bit embarrassed.
Out of gratitude, noticing that Mei wore a hat similar to Tsunade's, Naruto addressed her in the same way he did Tsunade, shouting, "Mizukage Granny..."
Boom! A clean punch sent him flying.
"Call me big sister, you brat!" Mei growled through gritted teeth.
"As expected. He truly is the number one ninja when it comes to surprises," Tsunade thought, recalling Naruto's profile in the Konoha ninja registry.
Bringing Naruto here, if something unexpected didn't happen, that would be the real surprise.
Fortunately, the atmosphere in the room became much livelier because of this.
All in all, it wasn't a bad outcome.
After the commotion died down, the disrupted meeting quickly returned to order.
Naruto, now back behind Tsunade, rubbed his reddened cheeks and thought to himself that this place was truly terrifying. He decided that it would be best to remain silent for the rest of the assembly.
Finally, the last group from Sunagakure arrived.
Naruto spotted a familiar face and lit up, immediately forgetting his previous resolution.
"Gaara! Why are you here too?" Naruto exclaimed excitedly as he walked towards Gaara to greet him.
However, before he could take more than a few steps, he noticed something that left him utterly shocked. He pointed at Gaara, trembling, and exclaimed, "Gaara! You... You... You're the Kazekage already?!?"
