The main fort of the Black Wind Fort, the true lair of the gang, was not much different from its branch forts in terms of size and defensive structures. The only distinctions were the people within and the wealth stored inside.
Inside the Assembly Hall of the main fort sat a burly man, almost on par with the Huns that Lu Haikong had encountered before. His tiger-like eyes, as large as copper bells, radiated an intimidating aura, as if one were staring down a ferocious tiger. No one dared to speak in the hall, for they knew that the absolute master of the fort, the overlord of the Black Wind Fort, Li Hu, was in a foul mood.
"In just one day, all four of our branch forts were destroyed, and hundreds, even thousands, of our brothers were killed. And you're telling me you don't even know who did this? What's the use of keeping you useless bunch around!" Li Hu slammed his hand on the table, causing the ten or so near-vassals in the room to tremble.
The fourth elder of the Black Wind Fort, who had always looked down on Li Xiong, believing he wasn't worthy of being the second-in-command, crawled forward and explained with a trembling voice, "Chief, the enemy had few numbers and seemed very familiar with our defenses. They accurately exploited our weaknesses each time, and our brothers didn't even have a chance to send a signal before being wiped out. To ensure their escape, they didn't even take the valuables from the branch forts. I really have no way to deal with them."
Previously, this man had never thought much of Li Xiong, believing that he lacked the qualifications to be the second-in-command. He begrudgingly accepted Li Hu's younger brother as the third elder due to his inferior strength, but he couldn't fathom how Li Xiong had risen above him.
Now, with Li Xiong gone and the affairs of the Black Wind Fort in his hands, he realized that serving under Li Hu was far more challenging than he had imagined.
Li Hu let out a cold huff, his face filled with anger. He had been dealing with one frustrating issue after another. First, his younger brother was killed, then his trusted right-hand man was captured by bandits while delivering money to the Zhang family. Just as he received news of his capture, Li Hu had to attend to other matters and tasked a Xianbei warrior with rescuing his right-hand man, only to have the entire squad wiped out. To this moment, the fate of his trusted aide remained unknown.
Given these circumstances, the sudden appearance of an enigmatic enemy only added to Li Hu's woes.
"I don't care how you do it, but I'm giving you one day to find those rascals."
Li Hu didn't need to spell out the consequences of failing to find Lu Haikong within a day; the fourth elder knew it wouldn't be pleasant.
He was well aware of his leader's temperament, and if he couldn't produce Lu Haikong, being torn apart was a very real possibility.
But where to start the search? Lu Haikong hadn't left any clues, and finding them wouldn't be easy. As the fourth elder agonized over this dilemma, a bandit burst in: "Chief, those men have appeared again..."
................................
Lu Haikong and his group had successfully captured four branch forts of the Black Wind Fort on the first day, but on the second day, it wasn't until the afternoon that they reached the outskirts of the fifth branch fort.
Perhaps due to the ruthless actions of Lu HaiKong and his companions on the first day, they encountered strong resistance when attacking the fifth auxiliary fort. The defensive weaknesses that once allowed easy access were now sealed, and for a while, Lu HaiKong and his group seemed unable to breach the fort.
This development was concerning. It had already been two days since Lu HaiKong's group began their operation, and the Dark Wind Fort was well aware of their presence, on high alert and filled with animosity. If Lu HaiKong couldn't capture this auxiliary fort quickly, reinforcements from the Dark Wind Fort could arrive swiftly.
Lu HaiKong saw a signal smoke rising from within the fort, and he knew the message had been sent. If he couldn't take the fort within an hour, the best course of action would be to retreat. After all, they had no idea who was coming from the Dark Wind Fort or how strong they were.
Usually, Lu HaiKong was cautious, but today, he seemed bold, paying no heed to the enemy's pleas for help. Along with Wang Chao Ma Han, they continued their attack, maintaining a calm and collected demeanor for about twenty minutes before Lu HaiKong shed this pretense and revealed his bloodthirsty fangs.
When Lu HaiKong truly launched his assault, this mere auxiliary fort couldn't withstand the onslaught of nineteen near-generals and above. In less than ten minutes, the fort was completely annihilated by Lu HaiKong.
Meanwhile, on the road leading to the fort, Li Hu personally led a group of about a hundred bandits, rushing towards the auxiliary fort.
Despite their small number, this band of bandits was no less formidable than Lu HaiKong's squad. They had nearly ten near-generals among them, including Li Hu, whose strength value was undoubtedly above 60. Additionally, they were a highly skilled and elite group, with each member possessing a strength value around 20. This small but mighty force already accounted for eighty percent of the Dark Wind Fort's total strength.
Li Hu's appearance, with his robust build, belied his cautious nature. The entire incident, from start to finish, was peculiar.
