Chapter 100: A Fragrant Fish Banquet
Chapter 100: A Fragrant Fish Banquet
It would've been fine if SuiSui hadn't said anything, but when Feng Xuanbin heard it, his face paled and he screamed even louder.
Feng Xuanjie was already timid, and when he heard that the fish ate people, he froze in fear, collapsing onto the ground and accidentally pulling Feng Xuan Blue down with him due to their proximity.
Feng Xuanbo turned and ran nimbly, but he didn't expect the others to have fallen, and he tripped over them, falling as well.
Feng Xuanrui had been holding SuiSui's hand and had already run quite a distance.
But when he turned his head and saw that his brothers hadn't escaped and were all scared stiff, he gritted his teeth and ran back, still holding SuiSui's hand.
He couldn't just leave his brothers behind.
And besides, a fish eating people?
Shouldn't it be the other way around, with people eating fish?
Feng Xuanrui didn't believe that a fish could eat people.
Having grown up in the capital, he had never heard of fish eating people.
So, a fish couldn't eat people!
But deep down, he was still afraid.
If the fish didn't eat people, why did it jump into someone's arms?
He trembled as he pulled SuiSui back, his voice shaking as he shouted, "Don't be afraid, I'm here!"
After running back, Feng Xuanrui shielded SuiSui behind him and then unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks, shouting, "Haha ha hey!"
His pugilistic display looked quite impressive.
But, he was only hitting air.
SuiSui was so scared that she covered her eyes and shook uncontrollably.
Although Feng Xuancai was the oldest, he wasn't afraid of these things. However, after Feng Xuanjie fell, half of his body landed on Feng Xuancai's leg, making it difficult for Feng Xuancai to move.
Propping himself up on one arm, Feng Xuancai raised his head and reminded his brothers, "Don't cry, don't scream, the fish won't eat people."
Unfortunately, his words had no effect.
Feng Xuanbin continued to wail loudly.
The entire kitchen could only hear the little fatty's cries; no other sounds could be heard.
Feng Xuancai sighed, feeling a bit headache-inducing. He got up first and tried to help Feng Xuanjie to his feet.
But he was unsuccessful.
Feng Xuanjie was too scared, and his legs had turned soft. When he was pulled up, he couldn't stand and had to sit back down.
Seeing that this approach wasn't working, Feng Xuancai prepared to go help Feng Xuanbo instead.
But Feng Xuanjie clung tightly to his robe, refusing to let go.
Feng Xuancai felt that he could still walk away forcefully if he wanted to.
It was just that...
Either his robe would tear, or his pants would fall down.
Considering the consequences, Feng Xuancai gave up.
He turned his head to look at the howling and wailing Feng Xuanbin, and tried to comfort him gently, "Little Seven, don't be afraid, it's alright."
Feng Xuanbin: Waaah!!!
Feng Xuancai gritted his teeth and said, "The fish won't eat people, stop crying."
Feng Xuanbin: Owwooo!!!
Feng Xuancai: ...!
I'm tired, I won't bother comforting him anymore.
Just as the situation was spiraling further out of control, the Queen of Qi arrived.
Seeing the children either crying or screaming, lying or crouching on the ground, the Queen of Qi was perplexed, "What's going on here?"
The servants in the kitchen didn't dare come forward to comfort the children, but now that the Queen had asked, they hurriedly explained what had happened.
When she heard that it was because of a fish, the Queen of Qi smiled helplessly.
She went over first and picked up SuiSui.
The little girl was trembling uncontrollably, and the Queen of Qi felt both amused and heartbroken as she said, "SuiSui, don't be afraid, your mother is here."
The gentle voice of her mother, along with the fragrant scent emanating from her, greatly reduced SuiSui's fear.
She obediently lay in her mother's arms, her voice still shaking as she said, "...SuiSui is not afraid."
Although she said she wasn't afraid, her tiny body was still trembling.
The Queen of Qi felt heartbroken and patted her gently, then raised her voice to comfort Feng Xuanbin, "Little Seven, don't be afraid, your mother is here, the fish won't eat people."
The Queen of Qi's voice had a naturally soothing effect.
Upon hearing SuiSui's voice, Feng Xuanbin, who had been howling on the ground, looked up in disbelief and asked in a soft voice, "Really... is it really gone?"
Seeing the little fatty's tear-stained face, the Queen of Qi nodded helplessly and said, "Look, the fish has already been taken care of by Chef Xu and the others."
Chef Xu had initially wanted to try and comfort the young masters and ladies.
However, his voice went unheard, and in the end, he could only give up and start dealing with the fish first.
He thought that once the fish was taken care of, everyone would no longer be afraid.
Upon hearing the Queen's words, Feng Xuanbin turned his head in disbelief to look.
And what he saw were the dead eyes of the fish that had been cleaned and placed in a basin.
Feng Xuanbin couldn't help but shudder as he recalled the saying that the fish ate people.
However, now that the fish was dead, he didn't feel as scared anymore, and he slowly got up.
With Feng Xuanbin no longer howling, the voices of the others could now be heard as well.
Feng Xuancai comforted Feng Xuanjie and helped Feng Xuanbo to his feet.
The Queen of Qi looked at the group of disheveled children and smiled as she said, "Alright, go and freshen up now. It's almost time for lunch."
Since they often came to the manor for their riding and archery lessons, they all had spare sets of clothing here.
Feng Xuanrui was still worried about his sister and wanted to hold SuiSui's hand as they went.
However, when he turned around, he saw that SuiSui was already being carried by the Queen.
Feng Xuanrui didn't dare to take her from the Queen but still felt reluctant to let go. "Mother, please let me carry my sister. I have the strength!"
The Queen of Qi didn't respond to him but only nodded gently and said, "Let's go, change your clothes first."
After all that ruckus, the brothers' clothing was either soiled by the fish or dirty from falling on the ground, making them smell unpleasant and look disheveled.
While the others had their personal attendants helping them change, SuiSui was taken by the Queen of Qi, who gently and meticulously helped her change into a new set of clothing, carefully tending to the bruise on her head.
After this whole commotion, it was already time for lunch.
As there were quite a few children, Chef Xu had prepared the meal with great care.
From the three fish, they had made a variety of dishes.
Considering the children's taste preferences, they specially made sweet and sour fish and braised fish.
In addition to the two whole fish, they also sliced fish fillets and steamed fish cakes.
Apart from the fish, there was also meat.
There was onion-braised mutton and pan-fried lamb chops.
They had also simmered a chicken soup and used a mixture of chicken and pork to make small wontons.
For carbohydrates, there were mantou (steamed buns), bean paste buns, and rice, and the children could choose according to their preferences.
The Queen of Qi naturally asked SuiSui first.
Just listening to the names of these dishes made SuiSui's mouth water.
For her main course, SuiSui chose the small wontons, as the Queen had said that this was Chef Xu's specialty. The wontons were seasoned to perfection, and one bite would make your tongue dance with delight!
When she first heard this saying, SuiSui was quite afraid.
If her tongue danced with delight, how would she be able to use it afterward?
It was Grandpa Liu who had said this initially.
Later, Grandpa Liu explained to her that this saying was just an expression to describe how delicious the food was, and her tongue wouldn't actually dance or fall off.
Once SuiSui understood, she no longer felt scared.
Back then, they had been eating three-freshness noodles.
Recalling the delicious taste, SuiSui couldn't help but savor the memory and swallow her saliva.
Since this dish was described as so delicious, SuiSui decided she wanted to eat it. "I want to eat the wontons."
The Queen of Qi was very pleased to hear the little girl boldly express her thoughts.
She instructed the kitchen to serve a smaller portion.
As there were many dishes for lunch, they shouldn't just fill up on one dish.
In the small bowl that was served, there were only four plump wontons.
SuiSui looked at them and didn't feel disappointed.
As the Queen had said, she could eat whatever she wanted from this tableful of dishes!
