Chapter 10: Mu Yue: Yes, You've Hit the Jackpot
Chapter 10: Mu Yue: Yes, You've Hit the Jackpot
Watching Mu Yue's swift and graceful Whirlwind Leg technique, Might Guy's eyes lit up. He felt as if he had encountered his dream ninja technique, fulfilling all his fantasies about taijutsu.
Simple, fast, powerful, and cool.
"I love it! Please teach me this move later!" Might Guy exclaimed enthusiastically, expressing his satisfaction with the Mighty Leaf Whirlwind.
"I'm glad you like it," Mu Yue replied with a smile and a nod.
Might Guy's reaction was just as Mu Yue had expected. After all, this taijutsu technique was something Might Guy would develop in the future, along with a whole series of variations like the Great Whirlwind, Firm Whirlwind, and other Mighty Leaf Whirlwind techniques. It would be strange if he didn't like it.
With Mu Yue's assurance, Obito and Might Guy were thrilled, and even the usually dreaded test papers seemed more bearable.
"Watch me give it my all! This time, I'll definitely get four or more correct!" Obito exclaimed excitedly, rubbing his hands together. Someone who didn't know better might have thought he was preparing for battle.
"I must get three or more right, or I'll run five hundred laps around Konoha tonight!" Might Guy also made a determined vow to learn his dream technique, using self-imposed constraints to motivate himself.
He planned to master this taijutsu and then challenge Kakashi to a spar, to see how much his strength had improved.
However, the sudden surge of enthusiasm faded quickly. After attempting a few questions, Obito realized a harsh truth.
When pushed to the limit, he might be able to cast a larger Fireball Jutsu or hit the bullseye with all five shuriken in one breath, but when it came to answering questions, he was helpless no matter how rushed he felt.
He propped his head up with one hand, while the other fidgeted with his pen in various positions. In his agitated state, even the leaves swaying in the wind seemed to mock him for his inability to solve the problems.
Obito glanced at Might Guy sitting next to him.
Although they had been classmates for over three years and shared a mutual friend in Kakashi, they had never really hung out together. Their relationship was quite ordinary.
They weren't strangers, but they weren't exactly friends either. They were more like friends of a friend who happened to be in the same class.
When he thought of Might Guy, the first thing that came to Obito's mind was 'dead last'.
While Obito himself was also labeled as such, he believed that he merely had a few subjects that he struggled with. His ninjutsu and shuriken throwing skills were actually quite good, but he was terrible at theory.
It was just that the other Uchiha clan members were exceptionally talented, excelling in every subject, which made him, an imperfect Uchiha, seem like the dead last.
Might Guy, on the other hand, was different. He was not only weak in theory but also lacked skill in ninjutsu, ranking at the bottom of most courses. He was widely acknowledged as the class dunce.
Yet, at this moment, Might Guy displayed greater patience than Obito. Even when stumped and scratching his head, Might Guy remained focused and determined to tackle the challenging questions.
Obito recalled a bold statement Might Guy had made when he was being mocked.
"I believe that with this kind of effort, I will definitely become the strongest taijutsu ninja in the future!"
Although Obito hadn't been one of the mockers, he hadn't taken Might Guy's words seriously at the time. He didn't think Might Guy could become the so-called strongest in taijutsu.
But now, his perspective had shifted. Whether or not Might Guy would become the very best was uncertain, but he was likely to be much stronger than those who had ridiculed him.
"It might not be bad to become friends with him," Obito muttered to himself. That way, they could join forces against that annoying Kakashi.
As he watched Might Guy tirelessly work through the questions, Obito also picked up his pen with renewed vigor, wracking his brains for answers.
Witnessing this unexpected development, Mu Yue wore a thoughtful expression. He hadn't anticipated that these two would create such a positive influence on each other. Even the usually restless Obito had calmed down and was now diligently attempting the questions.
Obito got three correct, and Might Guy got two.
"Ah, I still didn't get to four. I did my best," Obito said, slumping on the table in exhaustion.
"Add 500 laps to my evening run," Might Guy said, incorporating the failure's punishment into his training plan.
Seeing their dejected expressions, Mu Yue offered some comfort. "You're actually only five questions away from a passing grade. And in just one hour, you've improved by one question. Doesn't that make you feel a lot better?"
Obito and Might Guy considered her words, and it did seem to make sense. Passing grades and mastering ninjutsu were suddenly within reach.
After offering her consolation, Mu Yue smiled and produced two more test papers.
Obito stared at the new test on the table and then thought about the three weekends left before the exam. He couldn't help but feel a wave of dizziness.
However, he had no choice but to pick up his pen and continue, gritting his teeth. After all, if he gave up now, all the previous tests would have been for nothing.
At that moment, having recovered his chakra, Itachi began another round of Fire Release practice, sending fiery dragons dancing in the sky, capturing Obito's attention.
"Teacher Mu Yue," Obito said, after a moment's thought. "After learning your ninjutsu, does that make us your disciples, like Itachi?"
"If that's what you want, then sure," Mu Yue replied ambiguously.
"Hehe, since we'll be your disciples sooner or later anyway, why don't you teach us now?" Obito asked, revealing his true intention.
Mu Yue gave him a suspicious look. Although this was the result of her deliberate plan, Obito's progress was surprisingly quick.
Obito patted his chest and assured her, "Teacher Mu Yue, I absolutely don't want to stop learning. I just feel that I can do both at the same time."
Obito then pulled Might Guy, who was sitting next to him, and said, "Right, Kay?"
"Teacher, I think Obito is right," Might Guy chimed in, also eager to learn the Mighty Leaf Whirlwind and challenge Kakashi.
"What if you don't pass the test in the end?" Mu Yue asked, not immediately agreeing.
"Then I'll do whatever you say, Teacher. I trust you," Obito said, still confident about passing.
"Me too," Might Guy nodded in agreement.
"Well..." Mu Yue furrowed her brows, looking conflicted as if she was still hesitating.
"Teacher Mu Yue, please trust me. I promise to study hard and not let you down," Obito said eagerly, seeing an opportunity.
"Me too. I will do my best," Might Guy added, clenching his fist.
"Alright then," Mu Yue said, as if finally convinced. "I believe that you will keep your word. After you finish this test paper, I will teach you the Mighty Dragon Fire Technique and the Mighty Leaf Whirlwind."
"That's wonderful! I knew you were the best, Teacher Mu Yue. I won't disappoint your trust," Obito said excitedly.
He felt that today was truly his lucky day—not only had he improved his theory grade, but he had also gained a powerful teacher without any effort.
"Teacher Mu Yue, I will definitely work hard to master your taijutsu!" Might Guy said earnestly.
He, too, felt incredibly fortunate to have met someone willing to teach him taijutsu.
[Establish a master-disciple relationship with Uchiha Obito?]
[Establish a master-disciple relationship with Might Guy?]
Seeing the two options pop up, Mu Yue smiled in satisfaction. Yes, they had hit the jackpot.
