Chapter 10: Discovering Martial Arts Techniques
Chapter 10: Discovering Martial Arts Techniques
Lu Qing was both thrilled and alarmed to find himself reborn in a world where one could potentially possess extraordinary powers.
The idea of being able to roam the lands as a chivalrous hero, righting wrongs with a sword in hand, was a romantic notion that deeply appealed to his Chinese spirit.
However, a world where individuals could amass great power also tended to be far more dangerous than ordinary ones.
When a person possessed immense strength, they often felt above the rules that governed lesser folk.
The saying went, 'The strong acted as they pleased, while the weak suffered what they must'.
And Lu Qing, at this moment, was undeniably one of the weak.
If he were to accidentally cross paths with an evil cultivator, his life could be snuffed out without a second thought.
These thoughts instilled a sense of crisis in Lu Qing, prompting him to reconsider some of his initial plans.
He fell into deep contemplation, his mind working through various ideas.
The next morning, Lu Qing prepared a pot of river shrimp porridge and woke Xiao Yan up. The siblings enjoyed the porridge together.
"Big brother, this shrimp porridge is delicious!"
The little girl slurped noisily, her head tilted back, a stray grain of rice still clinging to her cheek as she smiled happily at Lu Qing.
"I'm glad you like it. Take your time and don't choke."
Lu Qing reached out to gently wipe the grain of rice from the corner of her mouth.
"Big brother, are we going fishing again today?" Xiao Yan asked.
"Not today," Lu Qing replied. "After we finish eating, we'll go visit Grandpa Chen."
With their immediate food concerns addressed, Lu Qing didn't plan on fishing for the next couple of days.
The spot they had fished at yesterday needed time to recover, and the other two fishing spots would be challenging with their rudimentary fishing rod.
Until he could craft something better, he didn't want to waste their limited resources.
Their family was just too poor, and every little bit counted.
"We're going to see Grandpa Chen?" Xiao Yan's eyes lit up.
She had been asleep the previous day and didn't know about Chen Lao and Uncle Zhang's visit.
"Yes, would you like to go?" Lu Qing asked.
Most children tended to be naturally afraid of doctors, and Lu Qing wasn't sure if Xiao Yan shared this sentiment.
"I want to!" Xiao Yan said earnestly. "Grandpa Chen is so nice. He cured your illness, big brother, and I haven't even thanked him yet."
Lu Qing smiled and said, "Yes, let's go thank Grandpa Chen together."
After finishing their porridge, Lu Qing locked the door and set out with Xiao Yan.
Unlike most villagers, Chen Lao didn't live in the village itself but halfway up the hill behind it.
As they walked, Lu Qing and Xiao Yan spotted a solitary courtyard house nestled amidst the hillside, its surroundings exuding a sense of tranquility.
Upon reaching the halfway point up the hill, Lu Qing saw a figure moving in the courtyard and was about to speak when he suddenly stopped and gently pulled Xiao Yan back, signaling for her to be quiet.
It seemed that Chen Lao was occupied with something and shouldn't be disturbed at the moment.
The old doctor was practicing a martial arts form.
Lu Qing didn't recognize the style, but it reminded him of the tai chi he had often seen elderly men practicing in the parks of his previous life.
The movements were slow and relaxed.
However, after watching for a few moments, Lu Qing noticed a difference.
Chen Lao's movements appeared soft and gentle, but each strike and posture seemed to carry an underlying force, like a gentle breeze that concealed a powerful punch. It was mesmerizing to watch.
As Lu Qing became engrossed in the display, a line of text suddenly appeared in his field of vision.
Chapter 11: Discovering a Martial Arts Technique
Lu Qing's pupils suddenly contracted, his eyes narrowing.
Could his innate ability have such a function?!
Keeping his expression neutral, Lu Qing calmly chose 'yes' in his mind as he continued to watch Chen Lao practice his martial arts routine.
[Initiating simulation, current progress: 1%, 2%, 3%...]
Lu Qing's heart began to race as he watched the progress bar silently ticking upward in his field of vision.
He never imagined that his ability would allow him to simulate another person's martial arts technique.
Just yesterday, he had been worried about not having access to cultivation methods in this new world.
Now, it seemed that his problems were solved.
Lu Qing intently watched Chen Lao's movements, paying close attention to the simulation's progress.
[48%, 49%, 50%]
When the simulation reached 50%, Lu Qing noticed that the progress bar stopped, and the text disappeared.
Looking up, he saw that Chen Lao had finished his routine and was concluding his practice.
Lu Qing couldn't help but feel a sense of loss.
If only he had arrived a bit earlier, he might have been able to simulate the entire routine.
Being stuck halfway was frustrating.
However, Lu Qing quickly adjusted his mindset, realizing that discovering this new function of his ability was already a significant gain.
As for Chen Lao's martial arts technique, there would be other opportunities in the future; he didn't need to rush it.
After finishing his routine, Chen Lao opened his eyes and noticed Lu Qing and Xiao Yan.
In truth, he had been aware of their presence for a while but continued his practice since it was part of his daily routine.
"You're here. Have you eaten breakfast?" Chen Lao asked gently.
"Yes, we have," Lu Qing replied respectfully.
Xiao Yan tugged on the old doctor's hand and said, "Grandpa Chen, thank you for curing my brother."
"Hehe, little one, you should be thanking yourself. If it weren't for your loud crying the other day, I wouldn't have come in to check on you."
The old doctor ruffled Xiao Yan's hair affectionately, a hint of emotion in his eyes.
That day, he had been strolling through the village when he heard Xiao Yan's heartbroken cries. Unable to bear it, he entered the house to investigate, only then discovering Lu Qing's severe illness.
"Why should I thank myself? It was Grandpa Chen who cured my brother," Xiao Yan said, confused.
"It's not entirely my doing. Your brother's recovery is also due to his good fortune and strong life force," the old doctor sighed.
The previous day, after returning home, he had searched through his medical books but found no mention of Lu Qing's symptoms. In the end, he could only attribute Lu Qing's recovery to good luck and a strong life force.
Xiao Yan didn't understand the old doctor's words and could only nod, looking puzzled.
Lu Qing, however, now knew the real reason why Chen Lao had treated him.
He shot Xiao Yan a doting glance and once again expressed his gratitude to the old doctor with a deep bow. "Thank you for saving my life, Grandpa Chen."
"You... Ah, never mind, never mind," Chen Lao waved his hand, dismissing the topic.
He knew that even if he explained, Lu Qing and Xiao Yan would still believe that he was responsible for Lu Qing's recovery.
Since that was the case, there was no need to argue.
"Grandpa Chen, what were you doing just now? Were you practicing a martial art?" Xiao Yan asked curiously.
Lu Qing also looked at the old doctor, awaiting his response.
