Chapter 10: Cedric
Chapter 10: Cedric
After Kyle got on the train, he found that the first few carriages were mostly full.
It was inevitable, given that he had boarded just as the train was about to leave. Finding an empty seat at this point was not going to be easy.
Kyle used the Levitation Charm to carry his luggage and walked all the way to the end of the train, where he finally found a relatively spacious compartment.
Inside the compartment was a boy about his age. Though he wasn't as handsome as Kyle, he was certainly better looking than the Weasley twins.
"Knock, knock..."
Kyle knocked on the compartment door and politely asked, "Hi, can I sit here? All the other places are taken."
"Of course, come on in," the boy quickly replied.
"Thanks."
Kyle entered the compartment, placed his luggage on the storage rack, and then extended his hand.
"Hi, I'm Kyle Jopab, a first-year student."
The boy seemed to be lost in thought and didn't respond immediately. When he finally snapped out of it, he hurriedly shook Kyle's hand. "Oh... sorry, I'm Cedric Diggory, a second-year student at Hogwarts."
Cedric?
Kyle was a bit surprised. He hadn't expected to meet such a familiar face so soon after boarding the train. The future hero of Hogwarts, indeed.
Kyle remembered that Cedric also lived near Hogsmeade, but due to various reasons, they had never met.
Not even once.
Kyle had tried to find him a few times, but the Diggorys' house was always closed, and eventually, he gave up.
He never imagined their first meeting would be on the train...
However, seeing that Cedric seemed preoccupied, Kyle didn't press the matter. He simply greeted him and pulled out the book he had bought from Flourish and Blotts, "Basic Curses and Counter-curses," to read.
Cedric continued to stare off into space.
It had started drizzling outside sometime during the journey. This was nothing new; rain here always seemed to come without warning.
Kyle glanced out the window but wasn't bothered. He was used to it and even enjoyed reading in such an environment.
Inspired by Kyle, Cedric stopped daydreaming and took out a book as well. The cover read "Dark Forces: Self-Defense Guide."
Prepping for Defense Against the Dark Arts on the way to Hogwarts was quite common among students.
After all, no one knew how long this year's professor would last. If they only managed to teach a couple of classes before something happened, it was always good to be prepared.
For a while, the only sounds in the compartment were the pages of their books turning, a stark contrast to the noise in the corridor outside.
But this peace didn't last long.
Cedric hadn't finished two pages when the compartment door opened again.
"There you are, Kyle."
"We specifically saved a seat for you, but you stood us up and made us wait."
"I think you should apologize."
Fred and George leaned against the door, each taking turns to question Kyle.
Both of them looked incredibly angry, as if Kyle had committed some heinous crime.
"I can apologize," Kyle calmly closed his book and said, "but only if you swear on the Dungbomb that everything you said is true."
Instantly, Fred's anger turned to confusion. "Well, can I swear on the Headmaster instead?"
George echoed the sentiment. "Or Professor McGonagall?"
"Nope!" Kyle shook his head. "It has to be the Dungbomb."
...
"Oh, George, I think Kyle is a first-time rider on the Hogwarts Express and simply wasn't familiar with the train, which is why he didn't find us."
"Yes, Fred, it's not his fault. We should pay more attention to what's going on outside," Fred and George said in unison, ignoring the previous conversation and squeezing into the compartment as if nothing had happened.
Inevitably, they also spotted Cedric.
Fred smirked, "Look who it is, I can't quite remember."
George raised an eyebrow, "Of course, it's our well-behaved Hogwarts student, Cedric Diggory, the Pride of Hufflepuff," he said with a mischievous smile.
As soon as they finished speaking, Cedric's face turned red, and he was so embarrassed by the string of shameful titles that he almost punched a hole in the train.
But he couldn't refute it.
After all, the titles of 'well-behaved student' and 'Pride of Hufflepuff' had been spread by his father, and within a short summer break, almost everyone in the Ministry of Magic knew about it.
Of course, this included their family.

During this summer break, almost half of the letters Cedric received were addressed to 'Pride of Hufflepuff.'
The other half were from Muggle-born students who were unaware of this matter.
It was because of this incident that Cedric deliberately chose the most secluded compartment, but he was still discovered, and by the two most troublesome people.
"Please, spare me!" Cedric pleaded, hands clasped together, "I can lend you my homework."
As he spoke, a stack of parchment appeared on the table.
The twins had intended to tease him further, but the price he offered was simply too high.
It was the homework of the top student in their year!
George quickly straightened his expression, snatched the parchment, and hugged it to his chest, "What are you saying, Cedric? We know this isn't your intention, we were just joking."
"That's right," Fred nodded in agreement, "Don't worry, we won't make fun of you because of this."
...
Fred and George left with smiles on their faces, looking as if they had found a Galleon.
As they departed, Cedric heaved a sigh of relief and glanced at Kyle apologetically, "I'm sorry, I..."
"I should be the one apologizing," Kyle interrupted, "After all, they were looking for me. Otherwise, you wouldn't have been discovered."
Cedric shook his head with a bitter smile, "It was only a matter of time."
He could hide on the train, but once they arrived at Hogwarts, it would be a different story. He would have to face it sooner or later.
Moreover, the sudden appearance of the Weasley brothers wasn't entirely a bad thing, as they showed Cedric a way to resolve the issue.
And that was through homework.
As the top student in his year, his summer homework was highly sought after, as evident from the Weasley brothers' reaction. Using homework to silence the mouths of Hufflepuff and Gryffindor students should be feasible.
As long as he could control them, the issue would be eighty percent resolved.
As for Ravenclaw and Slytherin, given their personalities, they would likely not join in such a commotion, at least not most of them. Even if there were a few exceptions, it wouldn't be a big deal.
As long as their own house members didn't stir up trouble and the energetic lions of Gryffindor didn't get involved, the matter would blow over within three days at most.
Just three days, it would pass quickly.
Thinking of this, Cedric suddenly felt that things weren't as bad as they seemed.
