Chapter 1: The "Plague" of the Uchiha Police Force
Year 57 of Konoha. One year before the Night of the Massacre.
Inside the Uchiha Police Force headquarters, Uchiha Fugaku held a list in his hands. His face was stern as he scanned the group of young Uchiha genin before him—twelve to sixteen years old, the future of the clan.
Uchiha Fugaku spoke in a low, deliberate tone:
“Next… Uchiha Izumi.”
“Ah? Me? Here!”
Twelve-year-old Uchiha Izumi shot her hand up, nearly knocking over her chair in her haste.
Fugaku locked eyes with her, voice heavy with gravity.
“Do you truly possess the resolve to take the Uchiha Police Force recruitment exam?”
Uchiha Izumi straightened, her expression solemn.
“I’m ready!”
Fugaku nodded.
“The exam period is one month. During that time, you’ll be under the supervision of an official Police Force member—your examiner. If he deems your performance sufficient, you’ll officially join the Uchiha Police Force and become an enforcer of Konoha’s law.”
He gestured toward the board behind him, where a long list of names was displayed. Many had already been circled.
“You may choose your examiner,” Fugaku continued, “but only from those not yet circled.”
Izumi stared up at the dense roster.
—Uchiha Shun, Uchiha Geto, Uchiha Iizumi, Uchiha Ishin…
She didn’t recognize a single name.
“Um… then… this one? Pool Spring Senior?” she whispered, pointing weakly.
She’d picked him simply because his name sounded similar to her own—Uchiha Izumi, Uchiha Iizumi. Just one character different.
Fugaku paused.
“Pool Spring…?” His eyes flickered with something unreadable. “Are you certain? Once chosen, you can’t change your mind.”
Izumi didn’t catch the undercurrent in his tone. She thought he was just urging her to decide.
“Yeah! I’m certain!”
Fugaku hesitated, then warned, “Uchiha Iizumi is one of the elite within the Police Force. His standards for you will be stricter than anyone else’s. Remember—do not defy his orders. If you want to survive, you’ll obey.”
Izumi froze.
Her throat tightened.
Fugaku hadn’t given such a warning to any of the others. Was this a sign… she’d made a mistake?
Her heart began to race.
…
Outside the Police Force compound, Izumi still walked in a daze.
In her hand was an Evaluation Assignment Letter. All she had to do was deliver it to Senior Iizumi—and for the next month, she’d endure the grueling, legendary recruitment trials.
“If only Itachi-kun were here… he’d know what kind of person Pool Spring is.”
She muttered under her breath.
She wanted to ask someone in the clan for intel—but then she remembered: she didn’t really know anyone.
She was the only odd one out in the Uchiha clan. She never fit in with the other children.
Her mother was an Uchiha, but her father was a commoner ninja. For the first five years of her life, she’d carried his surname.
It wasn’t until the Nine-Tails’ Night—when her father died protecting her—that her mother brought her back to the Uchiha clan, and she changed her name to match hers.
“Stay calm… stay calm…”
She told herself. “If I’m respectful, even if Senior Iizumi is harsh, we can still get along.”
She decided to buy a welcome gift first.
But before she could act—
A shout echoed from afar:
“The Police Force’s ninjas are back!”
Izumi turned.
A group of Uchiha Police Force members marched toward her—dressed in standard ninja combat gear, weapons strapped across their backs, radiating an aura of authority and intimidation.
There was no time to buy a gift.
If Senior Iizumi was among them and she didn’t greet him immediately, she’d make a terrible first impression.
She dashed forward, heart pounding, and raised her hand.
“Excuse me—could one of you be Senior Uchiha Iizumi?”
She held up the assignment letter.
“I’m a recruit for the Police Force exam. My name is Uchiha Izumi.”
The group halted.
Dozens of eyes—wide, startled—locked onto her, as if she were some rare summon beast.
Then, a female Police Force member stepped forward, her expression oddly grim.
“You… chose Uchiha Iizumi as your examiner?”
Izumi nodded. “Yes.”
The woman placed a hand on her shoulder, her voice laced with pity.
“…Good luck.”
She turned to leave, then paused.
“He’s not here. If you’re looking for him, try the shadiest streets in the village. He’s probably there.”
She gave Izumi a long, lingering look.
“Good luck. Sometimes… just surviving is luck enough.”
Izumi’s face paled.
“Wait—senior… is Senior Iizumi really that strict with recruits?”
The woman shook her head.
“It’s not about strictness. He’s… different. Hard to control. Even Fugaku-sama struggles to command him. My advice? Start drafting your Last Will. Trust me—it’ll come in handy sooner than you think.”
Izumi stared, frozen.
She realized then—every single one of them was looking at her with pity.
…
Meanwhile, in the infamous district of Konoha—known for its bathhouses, gambling dens, and brothels—a lone figure in Police Force attire stepped into the street.
The moment he arrived, the air went silent.
Three seconds passed.
Then chaos erupted.
“Damn it! The Uchiha plague is back! Last time he came, he stuffed over fifty people into the prison! Quick—warn the boss! Close the casino!”
“Seriously? He’s back already? It’s only been a month!”
“Hey! Uchiha Iizumi! You’re going too far! We’re running legitimate businesses! Konoha doesn’t ban gambling or prostitution—only a few drugs are restricted! Why do you keep targeting us?”
“Shut up! You want to spend the rest of your life in the black cell? You’re messing with the Uchiha plague!”
“I—I’m just passing through!”
Uchiha Iizumi stood relaxed, one hand resting on the hilt of his kunai. His eyes swept the crowd—searching, calm, like a hunter surveying prey.
Then—his gaze stopped.
“Found a little rat.”
In the throng, a small man crouched low, trying to hide among the crowd. At first glance, unremarkable. But to Uchiha Iizumi’s eyes…
The man burned like a firefly in the dark.
Because above his head hovered a crimson square. Within it, red text pulsed:
[Akiba Jiro — Two days ago: Drunk after losing at gambling, beat his four-year-old child to death. Guilt Level: Red Mark!]
This… was Uchiha Iizumi’s special ability.
Unblinking, he stepped forward.
The crowd scattered in panic—everyone afraid of being the next target of the Uchiha plague.
Just as the man turned to flee with the rest, Iizumi spoke.
“Akiba Jiro. Where do you think you’re going?”
He looked down at the man, eyes cold, empty—like he was already dead.
Then—
A breathless voice rang out from behind him:
“F-Finally… I found you!”
Izumi turned.
A girl, panting, clutching the assignment letter, stared at him in awe.
“S-So you’re… Senior Uchiha Iizumi?”
…
