Chapter 1: Magical Wonders
Chapter 1: Magical Wonders
In a quaint three-story house near Ottery St. Catchpole, an eleven-year-old boy named Kyle Joba stood by the window, intently studying a piece of parchment in his hands.
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore (Merlin's First Class Honor, Chief Wizard of Wizengamot, and Chairman of the International Wizard Federation)
Dear Mr. Joba,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Enclosed please find a list of required books and materials.
Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl by no later than July 31st.
Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall
......
Yes, it was indeed the acceptance letter to Hogwarts.
Ever since he traveled to this world eleven years ago, Kyle had been waiting for this day.
As for why he was so certain, it was simple. Not far away lived several peculiar families.
Among them, Kyle was most familiar with Xenophilius Lovegood, the editor of The Quibbler.
And then there was the Weasley family.
That unusually eccentric architecture and a whole family of redheads were more than enough to confirm the nature of this world for Kyle.
It is worth mentioning that being able to live here also indicates that Kyle, in this life, is also born into a wizarding family.
His father, Chris Joba, worked at the Ministry of Magic as the Deputy Head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, as well as the Director of the Beast Office. Thanks to his family's innate ability to communicate with magical beasts, he was also a renowned magizoologist and one of the few students of Newt Scamander.
His mother, Diana, also worked at the Ministry, within the Department of Mysteries, but Kyle had no idea what her role entailed. His attempts to indirectly find out more had all failed, as his parents were extremely tight-lipped about their work, never revealing even a hint of information.
As for their family background... well, let's just say it was unremarkable compared to those famous surnames like Dumbledore and Grindelwald, lacking any notable figures in their lineage.
Nonetheless, Kyle was content with his lot in life. At the very least, his parents were both wizards, so he would certainly be accepted into Hogwarts.
Unless, of course, he turned out to be a Squib.
But that possibility had been ruled out after his first magical outburst when he was three years old.
Even though he had always known this day would come, Kyle still couldn't help but feel elated when an owl carrying the letter pecked its way through his bedroom window.
He cherished that piece of parchment like a precious treasure, refusing to let it out of his sight even when he slept, glancing at it every now and then.
......
"Dear, you've been poring over that acceptance letter for three days now. Can you please put it down? I assure you it's genuine!"
Chris looked on helplessly as his son started beaming with joy once again, and gently reminded him, "Don't forget, we're supposed to meet the Weasleys next door today to go to Diagon Alley. We shouldn't keep them waiting."
"Okay, Dad, I'm coming!"
Hearing his father's words, Kyle hastily put away the much-read Hogwarts acceptance letter, hurriedly getting to his feet. He gave a nearby wooden post a knock and said, "Goodbye, Groot."
As soon as he spoke, a small green creature popped out and waved at Kyle.
The Joba family did have magical beasts, but not many. Aside from this Treeling named Groot, there was also a Kneazle named Tom.
Although Chris, as the Deputy Head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, could easily get away with keeping a dozen or more magical beasts, he chose not to. Even Groot and Tom were only allowed to stay because they had insisted on sticking around.
It wasn't that Chris disliked magical beasts; on the contrary, he believed that magical beasts should not be kept as pets by wizards.
This was a viewpoint that the usually gentle and amiable middle-aged gentleman, known for his easygoing nature at the Ministry, held with unwavering conviction.
His perspective was shared and supported by none other than Newt Scamander.
Newt also believed that magical beasts belonged in nature and had always practiced what he preached.
As for why his magical case was filled with so many beasts, that was purely due to Newt's unique bodily condition.
Kyle had met this elderly wizard, and not just once, so he could confirm this fact.
Much like a certain deathly hallows-seeking student, Newt Scamander also possessed a similar bodily constitution.
Kyle vividly recalled an incident from when he was five years old, strolling through the garden with Newt, and witnessing a Runespoor diving straight into Newt's embrace.
Runespoors were innate masters of the art of apparition, and while they might not be as intelligent as some other magical beasts, deliberately hiding themselves, they possessed an extremely strong sense of territory and an uncanny ability to sense danger.
At the first sign of a wizard or any other threatening creature approaching, they would immediately disappear without a trace.
It was utterly absurd.
And when he was seven years old, he still encountered the Fire Lizard while out with Newt.
At eight, it was an injured unicorn.
At ten, he almost became a crucible for the Fire Crab.
......
Some of these magical beasts were smuggled into the British wizarding world and escaped, while others somehow wandered over. They always managed to appear by Newt's side in the most bizarre ways.
And this was when Newt had mostly stayed at home.
Back when he was traveling the world with a suitcase full of magical beasts, sending them home, the situation was far more challenging.
Every time he sent one home, a dozen or twenty new beasts would show up, so it was no surprise that his suitcase was always full.
......
With such a unique talent, it was no wonder that Newt was on the blacklist of virtually every Ministry of Magic.
After all, these magical creatures were not known for their good temperaments before meeting Newt, especially when they were injured or pregnant. They would explode at the slightest provocation.
Imagine, you're leisurely sipping your afternoon tea on the street when suddenly a raging Man-Lion with a scorpion's tail, or a Boomslang, appears beside you... Tsk, just the thought of it is enough to make one break out in a cold sweat.
So, compared to Grindelwald or Voldemort, who had to cause destruction with their own hands, Newt was on a whole other level.
All he needed to do was buy a plane ticket to wherever he wanted something to disappear, stay there for a few days, sip some coffee, enjoy the scenery, and voila! The job was done, and he wasn't even directly involved.
Granny Tina deserved immense praise, too, for sealing Newt by her side with her own power. It was no exaggeration to say that the entire world owed her a Merlin First Class Honor.
However, the British wizarding world suffered as a result.
According to incomplete statistics, since Newt settled in Dorset, the number of incidents involving magical beasts in the Ministry has been growing exponentially. The British wizarding world has also, mysteriously, become the hottest destination for smugglers to unload their illegal goods, without exception.
Fortunately, although there have been countless incidents over the years, none have caused any serious consequences. The worst that has happened is some unlucky soul sustaining minor injuries.
Perhaps, as Newt's place of birth, this area also benefits from some passive buffs.
However, Chris wasn't so lucky. Due to his job, he had to work overtime for several days at a stretch.
But from the looks of it, Kyle enjoyed it.
......
Upon reaching the front door, Kyle realized that not only was his father, Chris, waiting there, but his mother, Diana, had also rarely returned early from the Ministry of Magic. She stood there, smiling gently at him.
Her long black hair was neatly styled, and the black robe with white trim she wore looked dignified and elegant on her. Her pale blue eyes, as she gazed at Kyle, were full of tenderness.
Elegant and intellectual.
That was always Kyle's impression of Diana.
Subconsciously, Kyle turned to look at Chris... Well, he looked somewhat handsome, and one could still glimpse a hint of his youthful charm. The two of them made a good-looking couple.
Most importantly, Chris wasn't balding, even though he was nearing forty. The distance between his hairline and eyebrows remained at about an inch, a stark contrast to their neighbor, Mr. Weasley.
Of course, with such excellent genes, Kyle naturally inherited good looks as well. Among the people he knew, he could easily rank first in appearance, already showing signs of becoming a heartthrob.
Of course, this wasn't important to Kyle, and he didn't take it to heart. He didn't rely on his looks for anything.
"Sorry, I'm late."
Kyle walked between the two of them and apologized.
"If you hadn't been staring at that letter all this time, you wouldn't be late, and Hogwarts wouldn't be moving out of the country because you failed to keep the letter safe," Chris teased, making up a joke on the spot.
Well, it was sort of a joke, and Chris found it hilarious.
As for Kyle, although he didn't understand what Chris was laughing about, he politely twitched the corners of his mouth in a smile, giving his dad some face.
Thankfully, this situation didn't last long.
"Okay, it's getting late. We should be off," Diana said with a smile, interrupting the awkward interaction between father and son. She took Kyle's hand and added, "There's a lot to buy for your enrollment, and we don't want to keep the Weasleys waiting."
With a crisp bang, she disappeared from the spot with Kyle in tow.
Seeing this, Chris quickly followed suit with the Disapparating spell.
