Chapter 27: Shadow.
"Wake up, sleepy head".
Allison woke up and saw herself in a room that was pure white. She was seated at a table with a handsome man in front of her. “Who are you and what was that?"
"That's rude. Others will say thank you first. The name's Alexander Walters. You can call me Alex. I'm the one you saw at your house. You inhaled a gas so that I could you bring you here without any complications".
"Okay, Alex. Where am I?"
Alex placed some papers in front of her. “Let’s start with who you are. Your supposed parents don't have any record of having a child".
"You’re right. They aren't my parents. But then again, I don't know who my parents are".
"What do you mean? Were you abandoned by your parents as a child?"
"No, that's not it. I have memory loss", Allison said, shifting in her chair. She was not comfortable discussing this at all.
"Memory loss? How did you get that?"
"Didn't you hear me? I said I have memory loss. How do you expect me to know how I got it?". She was getting agitated with passing second.
Alex started laughing seeing her reaction. "What's so funny?"
"It's nothing. So how old are you?"
This question broke every last thread of Allison's resolve to be calm. She stood so abruptly that the chair she was sitting on fell.
"Hey! Look, I know I have brain damage but I'm pretty sure that yours is working alright. How can you ask me that type of question? I don't think it's hard to estimate how old I am".
In that same room, there was a screen that blended in perfectly with the white wall. Behind that screen, were two women. One of the women, Daphne Parker, was a gentle woman with curly long brown hair and wore glasses while the other woman, Madeline Scarlett, was a strict woman with jet black hair.
"Am I seeing things or did Alex just laugh?", Madeline asked, indescribable shock showing on her face.
"For Alex to bring her himself, she must be special. This is Alex's second recruit in years", Daphne replied.
"How are you so sure? The first one he brought; her performance is still being debated. We just have to see how this one goes".
Back in the interrogation room, Allison was still standing with her arms folded in front of her. She didn't look pleased at all. "So back to my first question. Who are you?"
Alex leaned back in his chair. "I will talk only when you calm down. So, take a seat first".
Allison breathed out a huge sigh, picked up the chair and sat down. "Start talking".
Alex smirked inwardly. 'Why does it feel like I'm the one getting interrogated?'
"This is the Shadow".
