Chapter 31: Unexciting Mission.
It was on a weekend that Allison was brought to Shadow base. Meaning no training and recruits were allowed to do what they wanted. Most of them ended up in the cafeteria like they wanted to have enough energy for the start of training the following week. The cafeteria was a very large place with seats and tables made of hardwood and two entrances and exits. It exits led to an open field that were used for many occasions and practice. Vending machines and cafeteria cooks weren't hard to find.
Helen stopped Allison just before they entered the cafeteria. It was like she looking for someone and on spotting the person, she immediately dragged Allison towards the person.
"Allie, this is Chris. My boyfriend".
Christopher Kent, otherwise known as KC, was a lanky tall guy with freckles and curly hair. He looked athletic and was well known among girls. Seeing the red dots on his face, Allison couldn't help but say " You two look good together".
Helen smiled. "I know right. Chris, this is my new friend and roommate, Allison". They briefly shook hands before quickly letting go. For a while, they just sat there awkwardly.
"Um, anybody hungry?", Chris asked, already standing up.
"We'll take anything".
Once Chris left, the atmosphere between the two roommates returned to normal. Helen asked Allison about her life before Shadow and she answered her patiently.
A commotion broke out in the already slightly noisy cafeteria and a guy was in the middle of it. Several girls walked up to him asking him for one thing or the other and it took a while for the new guy to escape.
"Who is that?", Allison asked, witnessing the entire scene.
"That's Everett Jackson. He's part of the first group and Chris' best friend".
"Why is he walking towards us? Chris isn't here".
"Did I mention that he’s my brother?"
"You have a brother?!"
By this time Everett was already at their table. "Hey sis"
"Hello EV. What are you up to this time?"
"Nothing. Mom and Dad are out on a mission. Got to use the precious time. Who is she?"
****
"Boss, I don't think I'm seeing anything exciting on this mission. I've been watching her for a day now and I've seen nothing special. She has really lost her memory".
Alex looked up from what he was doing. "What makes you think I told you to watch her because I think she's pretending? When does training start?"
"Monday"
"Great. Then you'll get to see her in action"
"Why do you say so, sir? Have you seen her fight?"
"No, I haven't. I just know it".
Matthew was silent when he heard Alex's reply. His boss' gut feeling was always on point. But the problem was that it took a long time for others to realize it.
