Chapter 28: Shadow (II).
"Just Shadow?"

"Yeah, just Shadow. We are group that is not affiliated with any government organization. We are called Shadow because no one knows we exist. We operate behind the scenes. Our main objective is to take terrorist organization and we aren’t limited by boundaries. The rule is get in, take down, get out. In many cases, children are recruited and trained to join our cause. You're one of many and I believe you will do well".

For a moment, silence reigned between them but Allison broke it with her next question. "What makes you so sure I will do well?"
Alex smiled. "You have a strong will and determination, Allison. That's why I brought you here in the first place. There's something special about you that I can't pinpoint. And I believe you'll rise up the ranks in no time".

"Ranks", Allison questioned.

"Here we have a ranking system. Like in the military, where they have positions like colonel, sergeant and so on. We gives ranks on training and achievements. The highest rank is the SA rank and the lowest is SS rank." He paused and leaned in “Not to brag, but I'm the second SA rank here".

"Oh, you're definitely bragging", Allison said, laughing.

Their conversation after this was more relaxed and smoother. Allison asked all the questions she wanted to ask and Alex patiently answered each one of them. But the one question that Alex couldn't answer straightforwardly was the question on when she would her memories back.
"That depends. Different people have different rates of recovering their memories. But till then you will meet with our psychologist every day. Every piece of memory you recover, don't keep it to yourself. It could be important".

"I understand. So, what am I supposed to do now?"
Ale stood up, went to the door and opened it. Someone came in."This is Matthew Carson. He'll take you to your room. If you need anything, come find me".

"How will I find you?"

"Just ask around. I'm pretty popular around here".

Allison nodded and went out of the room. Once she was gone, the relaxed expression on Alex's face turned serious. Another door in the room opened and in came Madeline and Daphne. For a while, they all stood there with Alex and Madeline looking at each other like they wanted to eat the other person whole. Daphne eventually got tired of standing.

"Are we going to talk or we are going to keep standing here all day?", she said, coming in between the two.

Madeline sighed and spoke first "Alex, you know the rules. Why did you bring her here without clearance from the leader? You could get demoted and exiled for this"
But Alex didn't care. It wasn't his fault anyways. "We could have gotten clearance before I got there. But how were we supposed to know they had a daughter? What was I supposed to know when I saw her there? Leave her there? This last operation was sloppy because we didn't do our research. Don't go blaming this on me. We did this together. And besides, she has potential. I just know it".

"Anyways, she's beautiful".
