Beyond Gods 53 Rey's Home

As they walked in silence down the streets of the little village in Bangladesh, questions and revelations flooded Johan's mind. He realised that he didn't know Rey at all. To him, she was just a insane trouble maker that was unnaturally strong and dangerous. But, she clearly had more to her than met the eye.

Rey was special and now he was in the town where she grew up.

A guardian spirit was merged with his father.

The Voodoo Queen was real.

What was the extent of her power?

How did she know the answers to the questions in his head before he asked them?

What questions could she answer?

"You have a lot of questions running through your head," said Miss Obama, "don't you?"

"You seem to have answers," said Johan, "others just have theories. I feel that as I walk through these streets, I am starting to understand more. Especially about Rey. Why did you chose to teach her?"

"Rey is a god born from Yggdrasil," said Miss Obama, "whom the machine's power couldn't drain completely. Most of the people who were taken from earth are."

"A god?," said Johan slightly surprised.

"Yes," said Miss Obama, "as I see you know, Yggdrasil and earth was cut off from the rest of the multiverse by a unfathomably powerful entity or entities in the past. Much stronger than me, or any power I am aware of. They or it built the machine."

"Why?," asked Johan.

"I do not know," said Miss Obama, "however, I do know that it stops and limits the powers of divine beings who are born within it. I believe it was put in place to bring an era of constant fighting and unfathomable death to an end."

"But isn't that how it is currently in the higher realms now?," asked Johan.

"Yes," said Miss Obama, "but there is some order because no matter how talented you are, you still have to train and build yourself up from the time of birth. This gives order through effort and opportunities. Gods however do not follow this order. They are born strong with their unique affinities and powers. Imagine a baby who has strength that exceeds a Godly Monarch naturally. No knowledge. No restraint. They would cause utter chaos."

"Then is my father a god?," asked Johan.

"No, he is not. But, most of the anomalies are," said Miss Obama, "Athyne, Rey's new friend is. A strange one at that. But in the case of your father, he latched on to a powerful spirit whose consciousness was erased and that enabled him to watch over, protect, and communicate with you. These spirits often guard the entity they feel the most protective of. But, guardian spirits are so rare and old. They are only mentioned in the oldest of books, and even then sparsely. Not many remain although, in the past I have had a few."

"So you chose to teach Rey because she is a god whose powers were not drained completely?," asked Johan.

"When her father passed," said Miss Obama, "I heard her scream across the multiverse while I was cultivating. For a child to manage something like that was utterly strange. I came to investigate. Apon seeing her, she captured my heart with her sweetness and cuteness. I new I had to take her in as a disciple of mine, I couldn't let this child die due to starvation and poverty. Incredibly, she proved herself to be very talented. I can only imagine what she could have been if born outside the machine."

Johan pondered what Miss Obama just said. He didn't completely trust her, after all, in the future she had become the wife of Barack Obama, the first black president of America. It took a special type of insanity to stay in that visible powerful position for several years or even want it.

Miss Obama stopped in front of a run down village shed. It was missing a door, and a purple ragged curtain hung over the entrance.

"This is Rey's home," said Miss Obama, "let us enter."

Johan followed Miss Obama into the shed.

Within the tent was a short bald chubby old Indian man wearing a white ragged robe.

"I love daddy!," yelled two identical little girls simultaneous running around a confused old Indian man who was scratching his head. "Daddy is the best! Daddy is the best!"

They were clearly both Rey.

The shed was very plain.

On one end there was hay and two pieces of cloth laid out on top of it. It was a makeshift bed.

At the center of the room stood a closed of rusty steel pot. It sat on a steel mesh, which held it up over a fire.

"Rey come here," said Miss Obama. "I told you not to run off."

The two girls looked at Miss Obama. One of the Reys ran to her and jumped into her arms hugging her.

The old man looked up at the woman and said, "Who may you be Miss?"

"Hello Mr T and little Rey," said Miss Obama, "I apologize if I have caused you any confusion. Our daughters seem to look totally identical. You can call me Miss Obama. I am this Rey's mother."

"I could have sworn I only had one daughter," muttered the old man, "but they look exactly the same ... I couldn't tell them apart."

[Mr T?,] muttered Johan to himself, [seems like an odd name.]

"She called me daddy" said Mr T, "children tend to always do strange things you can't understand, I thought she had managed to split in too. You know, it is a normal part of having kids, you got to learn to accept these things. Rey always does strange things. It is odd that they even have the same name."

"That isn't normal at all!," gasped Johan.

Perhaps Rey's powers weren't all learn't.

"... and who may you two be young man?," asked Mr T.

Johan remained silent trying to scrounge his head for a response.

"and I am just some guy," said Johan.

Mr T sneared looking visibly upset, "I see ..."

"See what?," asked Johan.

"You are one of those Muslim guys who are looking to court my daughter," said Mr T, "have you no shame? She is only five years old."

"No I am not!," gasped Johan shocked. "That is so politically incorrect! I am not even Muslim!"

" The future Muslim community is going to hate the author for even writing this in!," said Miss Obama.

"We aren't in a book," said Johan looking at Miss Obama confused, "what are you talking about?"

"Are you saying my daughter isn't cute!?," scowled Mr T hugging his daughter.

Little Rey's eyes widened as she looked at Johan visibly hurt.

"I-I," stammered Johan.

Mr T's expression softened playfully.

"I joke," said Mr T, "come join us for a meal, it is nice to have company. Ever since Rey's mother passed away, it has been lonely in here. I am making some vegetable and sheep stew, very yummy."

"Can we stay with daddy?," said little Rey looking up at Miss Obama as she hugged her.

"Sure," said Miss Obama, "why not. I can't say no to you cutie."

"Yay!," yelled Mr T's Rey, "Visitor's for dinner!"

"But what about the effects on the future?," asked Johan.

"We will think about that later," said Miss Obama.
