While they were enjoying that quiet moment, Ren Shiyuan's phone rang.

He took his phone out and looked at the caller ID, his eyes darkened upon seeing the unknown number.

"Who is it?" Nian Jiezhen asked as she looked at him.

"My manager." He lied. "Let me answer this real quick."

He stood up and walked a few feet away from her, enough so that she won't be able to hear his conversation.

He answered the call, "Father."

"I'm surprised. You actually married a woman who worked for the government." Ren Yuansheng's deep voice was heard on the other line.

"How can you handle the mafia with you having that kind of wife? Will she turn a blind eye to our crimes?"

"I haven't committed any crime."

"You'll inherit in once you join and take over me. My crimes will be passed down to you."

Ren Shiyuan ended up gritting his teeth because of his father's words.

"Are you going to go back from your word?" 

If not for his father, finding Nian Jiezhen wouldn't be easy. "No."

"Then how do you plan on taking care of her? Do you plan on keeping it from her?"

He has to. Ren Shiyuan knew how loyal Nian Jiezhen was towards the government.

He ended up sighing, "Can't you just give mom another child and let him inherit your work instead?" 

"..." Ren Yuansheng ended up becoming silent because of what his son suddenly said.

"Father... My wife is pregnant and I am going to have my own family soon."

"I know."

"I'm not going to let my child experience the things I've gone through when I was young." 

His father became quiet once again after hearing Ren Shiyuan's words.

"Since I am not yet dead, I won't be handing this work to you yet but if something happens to me, you'll be taking over, understand?"

In other words, he can continue living the life he wants while his father is alive.

Ren Shiyuan ended up smiling, "Got it. You better stay alive then, father. Also, don't get caught."

If his father got caught then he has to takeover still.

After the call ended, Ren Shiyuan returned to Nian Jiezhen's side.

She turned to him, "What was that about?"

"Nothing important."

Nian Jiezhen raised a brow at him, "I don't like it when you lie to me."

Ren Shiyuan was actually contemplating on whether or not to tell him about his father.

"Say, Jiezhen, what if I turned into a criminal, are you going to catch me?"

"Of course." She didn't even hesitate in replying.

He pouted, "Even though I'm your husband?"

"Yes. There's no exemption." 

"Won't you miss me if I've been put to prison?"

"I can just visit you there then."

He looked blankly at her. His wife is so cold-hearted.

Nian Jiezhen ended up chuckling, "Are you planning on turning into one?"

"Maybe. My father wanted me to take on the business in the future."

The smile on her lips disappeared. 

It was no use if he was going to hide the truth from her. Thinking about the future... Ren Shiyuan couldn't help but think that it will only be harder for them if he told her about it later.

He looked at her with sad eyes, "Are you still going to catch me? Or are you going to turn a blind eye?"

"He's a drug lord. He killed people."

"I know."

"Do you know what's waiting for people like him? It's the death penalty!" She exclaimed.

"I know." 

She tugged on his shirt, "Don't joke around with me, Shiyuan."

Her eyes were filled with panic at the thought of him turning into someone like his father.

"I'm not."

Nian Jiezhen didn't want to believe it but because of how calm Ren Shiyuan was, her hands started trembling. 

"W-why? Why are you doing this?" 

"Because I gave him my word... I asked for his help in order to save you."

Tears ended up rolling down Nian Jiezhen's cheeks upon hearing his words.

He... asked for his help in order to save her?

In the end, he was willing to go down the dark path for her? "S-Shiyuan..."

Why? Why was he being like this?

It pained Ren Shiyuan to see her cry. It was wringing his heart in pain. He reached out and gently wiped her tears.

He leaned and kissed her forehead, "Don't cry."

How can she not cry? He was doing too much for her.

She leaned and buried her face on his chest.

Ren Shiyuan ended up hugging her, hoping that it would comfort her.

He shouldn't have told her. It was be breaking him, seeing her cry that way.

"Jiezhen..." He gently patted her back.

"Don't worry, it's not like I'll be doing that job already. I'll only be taking over once my father died or he got arrested." He tried to explain.

Of course, the idea of having his father dead pained him. Ren Yuansheng was still his father even if he was not the best father out there.

It was then, a sudden thought entered Nian Jiezhen's mind. Maybe it was because she was desperate to think of a solution for him.

"T-then..." She cleared her throat. She even wiped her tears before looking at him again.

"Once you take over his seat, you can assign someone else to replace you."

He ended up staring at her. What she said was true, he could just assign someone else later.

"My princess is so smart!" He lightly squeezed her cheeks and pecked her puckered lips.

Finally, Nian Jiezhen felt a bit of relief. Ren Shiyuan didn't have to dirty his hands. 

No matter what situation Ren Shiyuan will be in the future, at that moment, she decided to help him out of that situation. She was not going to allow him to do anything that can ruin his reputation or that can make him into a suspect.

She leaned and hugged him again. If Ren Shiyuan was willing to do anything for her, then she was willing to do anything for him as well.
