Abstract, Yet Powerful
Two electronic interference modules lay before Xiao Bai.
The first, with a more conventi onal appearance, was the latest prototype from his former employer, Black Fortress Fine Engineering. It could perform a wide range of interference operations over a large area, including communication jamming, information deception, and data link invasion.
Moreover, it was compatible with other similar products, allowing for hierarchical int egration and centralized control. For example, the "Echo" class electromagnetic interference module Xiao Bai currently possessed, which was too short-ranged to be particularly useful, could complement this new module, thereby extending its effective range.
Its power was unquestionable, and its effectiveness increased with the addition of more compatible equipment. If fully outfitted, a single unit could achieve the capabilities of an entire electronic warfare company.
However, if used alone, it was essentially just an ordinary jammer—essentially a bundled sale.
Its consumption was minimal, requiring only common parts and electronic components.
The other module, however, appeared rather abstract—
Unseeable Crown: A legacy of the Lost Civilization, based on spirit energy that defies scientific explanation. Its effect is enhanced by stronger and more mysterious souls.
The smaller text below raised a question:
Soul? Exactly what is a soul?
Xiao Bai couldn't figure out why such an abstract item was classified as 'electronic interference' equipment. The description was so brief that he had no idea what its actual effects were.
The materials required included standard electronic components, as well as Mirror Alloy, Rare Ore, and Chitin.
This feels like something those Idealist Charlatans cooked up. How trustworthy can it be?
Xiao Bai was genuinely hesitant. One option didn't seem right for him, while the other was too abstract.
After a moment's thought, he decided against assembling either immediately. Instead, he opened the Simulation Program, planning to test various equipment combinations in different scenarios to better understand his needs.
But then he made an unexpected discovery:
"Huh? The available electronic warfare equipment has been updated? They added the two items still in preview mode? Does that mean I can actually use them now?"
"About time! If there's a preview, there should be a trial run—just like in gacha games!"
Excited, Xiao Bai quickly equipped each of the two preview items and tested them several times.
The results were surprising: the abstra ct item actually performed better. Whether it was interference duration, the time it took the enemy to detect and counteract it, or even energy consumption and processing power usage, it outperformed Black Fortress Fine Engineering's model in every detail.
Xiao Bai wasn't sure exactly how the mystical principle behind it worked, but he knew that the Spirit Energy-based interference device he was using outperformed the tech-based one.
The advantage wasn't huge, but Black Fortress Fine Engineering's device was designed to be used in conjunction with other compatible equipment, essentially giving it an "ideal" performance state that he couldn't replicate.
In other words, the Unseeable Crown provided interference on a company-level scale.
Could it be because my soul is so mysterious and powerful?
Hmm... Now that I think about it, my soul is so noble, kind, gentle, passionate, brave, steadfast, honest, and humble. It makes sense that it would be powerful.
You're the one! Combine!
With a flash of green light, a metal ring materialized before Xiao Bai.
Strictly speaking, it was a headband, but given his physique, it could only be worn as a ring.
The design was exquisite: a pale golden material with shifting patterns that evoked a sense of mysterious enchantment. It would have been a worthy piece of art in any collection.
After storing it in his Storage Space, the icon showed a simple cartoon-style headband. When he dragged the equipment into the cockpit, it appeared floating above the seat, as if an invisible person were wearing it.
"This makes me look like a ghost... Well, whatever. I'll just have to make do. Saving the hostages is the priority."
With the help of electronic interference, Xiao Bai's battles became significantly easier. Combined with his formidable processing power and Auto-Combat System, the enemy's Anti-Air Missiles and Executioner Mecha posed no threat to him.
Then he encountered a new problem—
Boom!
As a massive mushroom cloud rose, the entire base—and Xiao Bai—went skyward.
"Damn it! So you resort to self-destruction when you can't win?" Xiao Bai cursed, torn between laughter and frustration. He glanced at his new score:
Mission Objective Completed: 1. Annihilate the enemy forces.
Enemies Eliminated: 32
Hostages Rescued: 0
Mission Rating: 5
Identified as: "Is it really that hard to admit you're a brainless hothead?"
Xiao Bai wanted to argue, but he was speechless.
This time, the blame couldn't be placed on excessive difficulty. The enemy had genuinely buried so many bombs beneath the base.
And they were devilishly difficult to counter. No matter how powerful the electronic interference, it couldn't blind a living person, could it?
"So the problem I need to solve now is how to secretly infiltrate and disarm the base's self-destruct... No wonder Teacher Zhou insisted on having a dedicated bomb disposal team from the start."
"Relying on the mech is out of the question now. It's time to switch to my physical body... But is my current physical body even usable?"
Xiao Bai's physical body had also been synchronized into the simulation program, and the system had calculated several performance parameters for him:
Model: Gene-Enhanced Human
Power: 100
Defense: 100
Processing Power: 0 (2500)
Life Energy: 8000
Xiao Bai couldn't figure out how these parameters were calculated. He hadn't undergone any genetic enhancements; he'd just been feeding the excess life energy that his mech couldn't use to his physical body. How did that suddenly grant him such formidable power and defense?
And even naked, he was three to five times stronger than someone wearing light mecha?
But why was his base processing power listed as '0'? Was the system insulting him?
If he chose to wear the biological mecha, both his power and defense would double, making him stronger than even standard mass-produced medium mecha.
His processing power would also increase to 50 points, on par with mass-produced mecha.
"My physical body's neural circuits have been fully replaced," Xiao Bai said. "I'll try to reincarnate back into it now."
He approached the cultivation pod where his physical body was submerged, and then...
He didn't know what to do next...
Th e Remote Control Module was installed, and the Motion-Sensing Factor, which had been recently synthesized, had also been injected into the Physical Body. According to the plan, the Physical Body should have awakened by now, but there was still no response.
"I just want to return my soul. Is that so difficult?"
"Am I supposed to remove the Main Control Chip and transplant it, like I did when I replaced the Mech? I dare to dismantle it, but my Physical Body doesn't have a motherboard or any expansion slots."
"The Biological Mecha doesn't have those either. It uses a bizarre neural circuit and Brain-Type Chips. Most systems aren't compatible and can only be externally grafted on, just like that Defense Force powerhouse from before."
Xiao Bai felt helpless, momentarily at a loss for what to do. He couldn't possibly go scouring Immortal Cultivation Novels for solutions, could he?
Just then, he received another message from Lao Li, asking how his conversation with Teacher Zhou had gone.
Xiao Bai froze, then a sudden realization struck him.
Got it!
