A War Between Spies Chapter 47

Yang Yi swore the training he had imagined was by no means anything like this!

Since childhood until he had grown up, Yang Yi had always been the perfect student in the eye of any teacher. Regardless of what Yang Yi was learning or the type of teacher he had, it was the teachers' good fortune to have a student like him. In short, teaching Yang Yi was very relaxing and fulfilling.

Being able to remember everything with a glance was a talent and not a skill. Learning became a simple, relaxing and enjoyable experience for him because of this talent.

Most important of all, aside from his eidetic memory, Yang Yi's observation skills and logical analysis were also good. Thus, Yang Yi had a strong sense of superiority when it came to his intelligence since young and it hadn't stopped when he became an adult.

It was because Yang Yi was very smart. He was smart to the point of being a genius. Therefore, Yang Yi had never developed any special interest when it came to learning nor had he exerted any special effort. It was never difficult because he learned everything in a single attempt. Naturally, he didn't even have to exert a lot of effort.

Yang Yi's pride was crushed within a single morning while he was learning a skill he currently deemed very important.

"Though I have never taught anyone, I have never taught a disciple as stupid as you. You are way, way, way too weak!"

Ye Meng kept repeating himself to emphasize how he was feeling. He continuously shook his head at Yang Yi, "Stop, stop, stop now."

Yang Yi immediately relaxed his arm and allowed Ye Meng to help him place the barbell back on the shelf.

"Do you know how much weight you can lift?"

"Yes. Fifteen kilograms on the weight rod and another five kilograms on each side of the barbell. The total is twenty-five kilograms."

Ye Meng sighed and pointed at the lady lying on the bench press next to him, "Do you know how much weight she is lifting?"

"Forty kilograms…"

"She is doing three sets of bench presses with forty kilograms of weight whereas you are only doing twenty-five kilograms. You can't even do six… I really "applaud" you!"

Yang Yi was rather helpless but also unwilling to yield, "I just got started. We just started, ok?  I will get better very quickly."

Ye Meng pulled Yang Yi up into a sitting position and raised his fingers, "My math isn't very good, but let's do some calculations. What can you accomplish with your current strength? What can you do!? Do you believe that I can stab you to death using this finger? Indeed, you definitely improve with practise. But how long will it take? Even if we have three months, can you transform from a frail chicken into a rooster within three months? Or will you still be a chick!"

What could Yang Yi say? He couldn't do anything but lower his head.

Ye Meng smiled bitterly, "What result do you want to achieve? Let's not be too far-fetched. At the very least, you want to be able to defeat three to four ordinary people? I don't expect you to train until you are as strong as big brother. You should at the very least be passable, right? Given your current condition, half a year, it will take at least half a year."

"Fine. If half a year is what it takes, I will take it slow then. I am truly powerless it seems…"

Ye Meng sighed deeply. It was just at this moment when Wang Wen Jiang finally came to the gym in sportswear.

Wang Wen Jiang walked straight to towards the two men. He wiped his face which was full of sweat and smiled at Ye Meng, "How was it?"

Ye Meng listlessly said, "It took him thirty four minutes to run here."

Wang Wen Jiang asked in surprise, "It took thirty four minutes to run such a short distance?"

"Well, he could swing the short cable for at least one and a half minutes. Fifty consecutive deep squats is his maximum. His legs don't have the energy to do more than that. He can lift a twenty five kilogram barbell six times. Six times is his maximum."

Ye Meng sounded very helpless when he said it. Wang Wen Jiang was shocked as he looked at Yang Yi and asked, "He can't be this frail, right? Were you too soft?"

Ye Meng exhaled his breath, "I can't wait to kill him! The youngsters' conditions nowadays are just too good. Every one of them was brought up just like a pig. They looked big but were actually physically frail."

Wang Wen Jiang looked at Yang Yi, "Don't you usually exercise?"

"I do exercise."

"What do you do?"

"Basketball."

"And you are only at this level!?"

"I haven't played for two years now…"

Wang Wen Jiang frowned and bitterly said, "How can we teach him? What can we do about it? He is so frail. What's the point of hand-to-hand combat training? You can't beat anyone even if they stand still and freely allow you to hit them."

Ye Meng shook his head and smiled bitterly at Wang Wen Jiang, "The captain has given us a difficult task. What can I say? Everyone thought he was just a rookie. However, he is not even a rookie but an egg. He can only be a rookie or an idiot after he hatches."

Although Yang Yi had been scolded in the past, it was the first time someone actually called him an idiot.

Wang Wen Jiang thoughtfully said, "How can he still be taught? Am I going to give him physical training too? Continuously training to be physically fit will just ruin your body."

Yang Yi was very embarrassed, somewhat angry and rather indignant. Hence, he quickly replied, "We will practice together, let's practice together!"

Wang Wen Jiang was kinder than Ye Meng. He just frowned instead of tormenting Yang Yi, "Without a doubt, you can improve your fitness level and hand-to-hand combat at the same time. However, being physically fit is the foundation of all sports. If your fitness is poor, what can I teach you? Your effort wouldn't amount to anything. We only have limited time. It would be irresponsible of me if I just casually teach you a few techniques and styles. I won't be able to answer to the captain then. You need to realize your objective is not to master any techniques or style. Your only objective is to defeat your enemy."

Yang Yi was slightly exhausted. He spread out his hands and helplessly said, "I can't help it either. What can I do since my foundation is so poor?"

Wang Wen Jiang sighed helplessly, "There is nothing that we can do about that. We can only start with training in such a way."

Ye Meng patted Yang Yi's shoulder and smiled, "I must say Little Egg…"

"What did you call me?"

Ye Meng looked at Yang Yi in surprise and laughed, "What should I call you then? Little Idiot?"

"Brother, can you either call me Little Yang or Little Yi? Otherwise, you can also call me Ross. If not, can't you just call me by my name?"

Ye Meng shook his head and smiled, "I actually want to call you an idiot or little egg. It's up to you to choose."

Yang Yi used silence to express his opinion. Ye Meng then ruefully said, "Little Egg, your foundation is very shallow and your fundamentals are horrible. You should train slowly and properly. I have things to handle in the afternoon. So, I will take my leave."

Ye Meng left while shaking his head after giving Yang Yi a pat on the shoulder. Wang Wen Jiang looked at Yang Yi while sighing, "Little Egg, let's start with your foundation. Come with me."

Yang Yi exclaimed, "Can you not call me a little egg!? Can you not?"

"Sure. Now that you can move again, let's start with your fundamentals. Come with me, Little Egg. How much do you know about hand-to-hand combat?"

Yang Yi's steps stopped. He gritted his teeth for quite some time. Finally, he hatefully proclaimed, "Fine, you guys can call me whatever you like. Sooner or later, there will be a day when you guys will regret it. I don't know anything about hand-to-hand combat. You will have to decide."
