Cheng Yu normally only swapped pointers with her fellow sect members. She had never once experienced a life-threatening situation of this magnitude before! Even if she was an orange-ranked Chain Soul Master, her inexperience in battle compared to that of her opponent's cost her dearly.
The fight lasted less than two rounds when Cheng Yu's opponent found an opening and struck out with his claw at her head. If the attack landed, Cheng Yu's skull would be torn open!
The fear of death made Cheng Yu stare at the approaching claw in horror. Her legs seemed to have forgotten how to move.
"Junior Sister!" Li Yuanhuan was fighting quite a distance away from her. When he saw his Junior Sister in peril, he shouted out in alarm. He wanted to save her, but an opponent was in his way. He wasn't going to make it in time!
Bang! The Demonic Soul Master only felt a numbness to his arm. The bones from his claw-like fingers had completely shattered from the impact! He stood fixated to the ground, trying to digest how a broom had just barred his attack.
A silhouette dashed forward, taking 10 steps in the time it took to cross one. That was the basic red-ranked Heavenly Soul technique—Spatial Alteration!
The broom hit the Demonic Soul Master across the head. With a sound resembling a watermelon breaking into pieces, white brain matter and red blood sprayed all over the ground. It looked disgusting!
Cheng Yu was gobsmacked to see how ruthless Ling Xiao was. Wasn't this his very first battle?
Cheng Yu was still muddle-headed from the situation before. She stared blankly at her saviour, a valiant man proudly wielding a black broom—Ling Xiao! The black broom was stained red with blood. The criss-cross between black and red made Ling Xiao look more like a Demonic Soul Master than anything else.
Ling Xiao had a malevolent look on his face as he roared out, "We're on a battlefield. What are you daydreaming about?! Are you waiting for your knight in shining armour?"
Cheng Yu bit down on her lip, as though she wanted to draw blood. In the blink of an eye, Ling Xiao dashed past her and hit the two Demonic Soul Masters mounting a sneak attack with his broom, badly mutilating them as red filth splattered everywhere.
Cheng Yu abruptly raised her head. Her eyes were red, like an injured mother lion. "I don't need you to lecture me! No one needs you!" She flipped her hand back and stabbed the throat of an oncoming Demonic Soul Master.
Rapid changes occurred on the battlefield after the addition of the disciples from the Northern Jade Sect. The Demonic Soul Masters were at a disadvantage in terms of manpower now. Their army collapsed like a landslide. Other than the two yellow-ranked Demonic Soul Masters, who managed to escape, more than 40 orange-ranked Demonic Soul Masters were killed.
Wang Batian was covered in injuries. He looked at the corpses of his fellow comrades from the Sunny Spring Sect and licked his cracked lips. With a pained look on his face, he expressed his gratitude to Li Yuanhuan for his timely arrival.
Li Yuanhuan was calm as usual, not a hint of smugness on his face. "You're welcome. We're both branch sects under the Sunken Wind Valley after all. It's only natural that we help each other out."
At that, Li Yuanhuan didn't pay any more attention to Wang Batian. He turned around and with a worried look on his face, he peered at the pale-looking Cheng Yu. "Junior Sister, are you alright?"
Cheng Yu was fighting the strong urge of wanting to puke as she weakly said, "I can go on."
In this moment, the corpse of a Demonic Soul Master lying on the ground suddenly exploded. The blood mist sprayed over the bodies of the nearby disciples from the Northern Jade Sect, rapidly corroding their skin.
"Aaahhhhhh!" Shrieks of agony rang out in quick succession when the disciples saw their skin start to erode at a speed the naked eye could see. They clawed at their festering skin that was torn open as if their lives depended on it, almost losing consciousness in the process.
"Don't scratch!" Ling Xiao hurriedly shouted out. He retrieved a number of small white bottles from his celestial soul chain, quickly pouring the medicinal powder over the festering skin of these disciples.
The Spiritual Wisdom Soul Stone on Ling Xiao's chest flashed at the same time. More than 10 scarlet rays of light flew out from the soul stone onto these disciples' injuries, rapidly restoring their festering skin.
"T-this!" Looking at such a miraculous scene, the disciples seemed to have forgotten the excruciating pain they were in only moments ago.
"I'm done." Ling Xiao secretly used his soulforce to drench himself in sweat.
This was the first time he used the Heart Cleansing Arts to save many of his comrades. If he wasn't perspiring from head to toe, what would the others think of him?
His comrades would say that their Master favoured him, and perhaps even that he was so strong that revealing a little of it in front of Wang Batian was of no consequence. With the newcomers tournament coming up in a month, Ling Xiao knew this wasn't desirable.
Even with this being case, Wang Batian still took note of Ling Xiao. It was not only because Ling Xiao was a pill cultivator, but also because he was now using his Spiritual Wisdom Soul.
The Northern Jade Sect focused on cultivating the Strength Soul, but Ling Xiao was now using his Spiritual Wisdom Soul. That meant he'd chosen to cultivate a soul chain with multiple soul stones.
Wang Batian naturally knew of the difficulty in cultivating a soul chain with multiple soul stones. He'd attempted to do so too at the start but encountered hurdles with every step he took. In the end, he had no choice but to give up.
It was obvious Ling Xiao had already successfully cultivated two soul stones at minimum. It was no surprise this caught Wang Batian's attention.
Fortunately, he doesn't seem to be very proficient in using the Spiritual Wisdom Soul, yet. He shouldn't be much of a threat to my younger brother, Wang Batian thought to himself as he looked at Ling Xiao who was drenched in sweat.
Ling Xiao noticed the relieved expression on Wang Batian's face and a cold smile played at his lips.
All the disciples from the Northern Jade Sect saw Ling Xiao in a different light. If he wasn’t here this time around, many of their own would've died from the poison.
"Let's go," Li Yuanhuan said. "Fellow brothers from the Sunny Spring Sect, do you want to rest in the Northern Jade Sect for a while and wait for your Master to come and pick you up?"
Li Yuanhuan only had good intentions when he suggested this, but Wang Batian felt that it was exceptionally unpleasant to hear. "No, it's fine. Your good intentions are much appreciated. Humph! We're leaving!"
The surviving disciples from the Sunny Spring Sect carried the corpses of their comrades on their backs, staggering as they left.
Li Yuanhuan was about to bring the disciples from the Northern Jade Sect away when he suddenly heard the the disciples from the Sunny Spring Sect scream out.
Li Yuanhuan and Ling Xiao turned around and realised the vast plain in front of them was empty. Although the disciples from the Sunny Spring Sect parted from them only moments ago, they were nowhere to be seen!
Li Yuanhuan was startled. Where have they all gone?
Ling Xiao squinted his eyes. He roughly knew what had happened but he didn't feel like saying it. To him, it was fine and dandy for the Northern Jade Sect to survive. He felt that those bastards of the Sunny Spring Sect might as well do everyone a favour and die.
"Li Yuanhuan, are you still there?" Wang Batian's hysterical roar rang out not too far away.
"I'm here!" Li Yuanhuan was just about to rush up when Ling Xiao held him back. "Don't! It's dangerous.
After that, Ling Xiao took a few steps forward and shouted at the emptiness in front of him. "Cuckold, are you there?"
"Damned brat!" Wang Batian roared out, burning with a frenzied rage. "Li Yuanhuan, ask that boy to scram. Quickly come and save us! If you don't, we'll die here! Don't think you guys won't be held responsible!"
Ling Xiao sneered and said, "Are you threatening us? Senior Brother, he still has so much strength left in him. He should be alright. Let's come back after having a good meal."
"No!" Wang Batian quickly interjected. "Don't go! Think of this as me begging you guys!"
Li Yuanhuan glared at Ling Xiao, blaming him. "Priorities, please!"
Ling Xiao cheekily laughed and said, "Senior Brother, they accidentally walked into an array. That's all. In any case, we can't go in. If everyone walks in, those who set the trap will only take advantage of us."
Li Yuanhuan frowned. "An array? What do you propose we do?"
"It's easy. Watch." Ling Xiao snapped his fingers.
Cheng Yu's complexion was slightly better than before. She rolled her eyes at Ling Xiao and said, "Deceptive brat!"
Ling Xiao paid no mind to these name callings as he shouted out in the direction of Wang Batian's voice. "Throw all of your gems out and I'll save you guys."
"You bastard! How dare you take advantage of us while we're suffering?!" Wang Batian roared.
Everyone from the Northern Jade Sect felt that Ling Xiao had gone a little overboard. Li Yuanhuan was about to advise Ling Xiao against it but the latter made a hand gesture indicating that he shouldn't butt in.
"Got more fancy words, big boy? In that case, we'll leave. Bye," Ling Xiao said in a cold voice.
After falling silent for some time, everyone from the Northern Jade Sect saw a large pile of red and orange gems appear out of thin air as they flew in Ling Xiao's direction. Countless gems floated in the sky, sparkling red and orange as the sun hit them. It was a feast to the eye.
Li Yuanhuan seemed to understand Ling Xiao's intentions and quickly released his yellow-ranked soulforce, adhering it to the gems.
Other than using them as currency, gems were materials used for cultivation. A red gem was nothing more than a stone in which red-ranked soulforce was stored.
Once Li Yuanhuan's yellow-ranked soulforce came in contact with these gems, he immediately controlled and aligned them in a straight line on the ground. After which the gems disappeared.
Li Yuanhuan quickly shouted out, "Senior Brother Wang Batian, follow the direction of the gems!"
Everyone trapped in the red blood mist heard Li Yuanhuan's voice and lowered their gazes to the ground. There, lights shot up in the air to form a path. Like beacons of light they led the way to freedom, for all to see!
