A Demon's Path Chapter 78

Ling Xiao naturally wasn't emotionally moved by Liu Yue's salutation. A crafty look shone in his eyes. "You probably want me to do something for you, right?"

Liu Yue was astonished. This boy really is an enigma. I didn't say a word, yet he knows what I want!

How could Liu Yue possibly know Ling Xiao was an expert in discerning a person's thoughts from their body language alone? Naturally, he could also analyse the intentions behind the words spoken. With how proud and arrogant Liu Yue was, Ling Xiao didn't believe for a second he was only saluting him out of admiration. If that were really the case, there were many people Liu Yue had to salute. The only reason most people would tone down was because they needed something from the other.

Liu Yue gradually put away his expression of shock, calmth taking its place. "I heard rumours that Elder Ling has excellent medical expertise. Can you help me treat my Elder Sister?"

Ling Xiao smiled in a relaxed manner. "Sure. But what's in it for me?"

Liu Yue was stunned. He really never thought Ling Xiao would actually be so, materialistic.

"Compensation is not a problem. We have quite a bit of gems saved up-" Liu Yue hadn't finished talking when Ling Xiao waved his hand. "I'm not lacking gems."

Liu Yue gritted his teeth. "If you want us to help you go against Young Master Shen, I'll advise you against it."

"Oh?" Ling Xiao was mildly surprised. "So you know I want to kill that son of a bitch, Shen Xuan? It looks like I underestimated you."

Even though Liu Yue was furious with Shen Xuan, it really did look like he wouldn't interfere. Ling Xiao could only sigh in response. "Actually, he's the one who wants to kill me. I don't need you to help me with him, but if Young Master Liu knows of any tricks he has up his sleeve that might cause me harm, I hope you'll inform me of such matters first."

Liu Yue thought about it. Since this didn't seem to conflict with his Liu Family's teachings, he nodded in agreement. "I can agree to this condition. Elder Ling, please see to her treatment now."

Ling Xiao smiled. "Here, take this prescription. Giver her one pill a day and you'll see improvements in 10 days. She'll be as good as normal in a month and should be fully cured in another two."

Liu Yue accepted the prescription from Ling Xiao. He was surprised, but before he could come back to his senses, Ling Xiao patted him on the shoulder and then climbed up the well. "Remember what you promised me."

Under the faint illumination of the moon, Liu Yue read the words 'Cure for Insanity' written at the very top of the simple prescription. He was stunned. If she's only gone insane, why couldn't the doctors treat Elder Sister?

When the thought that Ling Xiao could possibly be duping him crossed his mind, Liu Yue was about to unleash a string of curses upon him. But he suddenly noticed there was something written on the back. He quickly flipped the prescription over and took a look. It was a page describing the method of bringing a crazy person back to their senses, and repairing their being.

Ling Xiao's voice floated down from the mouth of the well at this time, "Make sure she receives both medications. She can only completely recover if you treat both root causes at the same time. Those quacks on the continent only know how to treat simple symptoms. Their ability to pair medicines is nothing great. It's only natural they couldn't treat her."

Liu Yue finally understood he'd misunderstood Ling Xiao from the very beginning. The only thing he couldn't wrap his head around was how Ling Xiao had prepared the prescription in such a short period of time.

Little did Liu Yue know that this was the prescription Ling Xiao had looked up after finding the woman. It came from Hua Que's medical book. Since Ling Xiao remembered its content after a one-over, he felt no heartache when he tore the page off. Besides, even if Liu Yue hadn't beseeched him, he would've helped the woman on his own accord.

"Sigh, why have I become so kind hearted as of late?" Ling Xiao helplessly shook his head. "This isn't a good thing. Mrgh… I'm so tired. It's time to sleep!"

The beautiful Tang Yingying visited Ling Xiao in his dreams. It had already been more than 10 days since they parted, but this small alluring demoness was still the same. She was still as strikingly beautiful as ever.

"Elder Brother Xiao, I miss you, so much…" Tears were swirling about in Tang Yingying's eyes, a beauty through and through even when in tears.

Ling Xiao had a pained look on his face. "Yingying, Elder Brother Xiao misses you too…"

He was about to throw himself at her when a red shadow came between them, stopping him from holding Tang Yingying in his arms. "Boy, do you want to take my Yingying away so badly? It's not going to be so easy."

Although mist clouded this woman's face, Ling Xiao could imagine how ferocious looking she was. Dressed in red from head to toe, she resembled a malicious spirit. "And what are you going to do about it?" He puffed his chest out and snorted.

Ling Xiao didn't want to appear weak in front of Tang Yingying, even if he was currently trembling in his very core, terrified this woman would swallow him whole.

The woman clad in red coldly smiled. "Boy, you're a person who acts with only yourself in mind. Are you willing to fall out with everyone in this world for my Yingying? Are you willing to put everything on the line, including your life, to protect my Yingying?"

Ling Xiao fell silent. Eventually, he pensively said, "No."

The red clothed woman unbridledly burst out in laughter. "Yingying, did you hear that? The boy said he's not willing to do all that for you."

Tang Yingying didn't look disappointed. "I know why. Elder Brother Xiao has many things he needs to do, so he can't die."

"You stupid girl! You're really infuriating me! Let's go! You're not allowed to see this brat ever again!" The woman vehemently said.

At that, both the red clothed woman and Tang Yingying disappeared before Ling Xiao's eyes. He didn't stop them, only quietly muttering to himself, "Thank you, Yingying. You're the one who understands Elder Brother Xiao the most in the world…" He didn't know what tears were before. But in this dream, he shed them for the first time.

Clank! Clank! Clank! Urgent, ear-piercing bells woke Ling Xiao up. He rapidly rolled on his bed and crawled up. He unhappily cursed, "It's not light out yet! Why are you so damned noisy?!" Then came an orderly's voice streaming in, "The Demonic Clan is attacking! Everyone, to your stations!"

Ling Xiao let out a long yawn. He stretched his hands and twisted his waist. He only walked out after finishing his morning round of exercises.

Xue Lian was waiting for him outside the room. "Elder Ling, everyone else has already headed to the top of the city walls. Young Master Shen asked me to wait for you here so we can head there together."

"Oh. These guys run rather quickly." Ling Xiao was in no hurry, walking at the pace as though he was taking a stroll to the city walls. Xue Lian had no choice but to slowly follow beside him.

"Xue Lian, do you hate me?" Ling Xiao suddenly asked along the way.

A cold glint flashed in Xue Lian's eyes as he spat out, "Yes."

Ling Xiao smiled and changed the question around, "Why are you and Lan Xiuhua here? Aren't you afraid of dying?"

Xue Lian was silent for a moment. "We'll be dead sooner or later if we stay in the Valley anyway-"

"So are you planning to run away with Lan Xiuhua when you get the chance?" Ling Xiao asked with a smile.

Xue Lian was shocked. He unsheathed his sword and slashed it toward Ling Xiao's throat. He wanted to chop his head off!

Ling Xiao moved meters away from Xue Lian in a flash. With a smile still hanging on his lips, he looked at Xue Lian. "Lan Xiuhua, you can come out."

A female walked over with lithe footsteps and stood beside Xue Lian. A sorrowful expression graced her face. "Xue Lian, even if we work together, we're not a match for this demon…"

Xue Lan hatefully glared at Ling Xiao as he pushed Lan Xiuhua protectively behind him. He gritted his teeth and said, "Xiuhua, you run away first. I'm fighting this demon!" But before he could, Ling Xiao threw out a soul chain at his feet. "There's some gems and pills inside. Take it and flee."

The duo never expected Ling Xiao to actually be so kind. They exchanged a glance with puzzled looks on their faces.

"There's no need to hold your suspicions. If I wanted to harm you two, I wouldn't need to play any tricks," Ling Xiao slowly said. "I'm letting you go because I feel sorry for the both of you. We all know I didn't kill your parents."

"Then, why?" Xue Lian couldn't help but voice up.

Ling Xiao sternly looked at him. "There's only one reason. You're willing to sacrifice your life to protect that girl behind you. For that, I admire you. If you want to run away, you better hurry up."

Xue Lian didn't hesitate. He took the soul chain Ling Xiao threw to the ground and forced a few words of gratitude out of his throat with much difficulty, "Thank you. Please take care."

Ling Xiao shook his head as he watched the duo depart. "The ones who should be careful are the two of you, right? Youngsters who know nothing of the world, you don't know what difficulties lie ahead of you. Xue Lian, I only hope you can keep protecting the girl by your side and live on…"

Ling Xiao called them youngsters. If there was someone watching from the sidelines, they would think he was an immortal monster. A person's age wasn't judged by how they looked, or how many years they'd walked the earth. A person's age was judged by their heart.

Only Ling Xiao understood his heart had already aged to the point it couldn't get any older. He dusted off his hands and said to himself, "Let's go kill some monsters and rank up!"
