Chapter 997: Chapter 689 Death Guard Chapter 997: Chapter 689 Death Guard After eliminating Typhonse, Duanmu Huai had been grappling with a difficult dilemma.
That was… whether or not to take out the Chaos Fleet brought by Typhonse, located outside the Crystal Barrier System of the Faelun World.
In the game, if Duanmu Huai fought, he just fought, but here it was different. In this world, Duanmu Huai was the only player. The Tribunal's fleet had suffered severe losses from the previous confrontations with the Reapers and Cosmic Monsters and had hardly replenished any warships. Considering the deep-seated grudges and hatred between the Chaos Intergalactic Warriors and the Imperial, his appearance alone would surely drag him deeply into enmity?
During this period, Duanmu Huai had commanded Aikute to closely monitor the fleet. Luckily, as it currently stood, it seemed that they had not yet discovered that their boss had been taken out. They were still leisurely loitering outside the Crystal Barrier, apparently waiting for it to shatter before they rushed in to wreak havoc.
However, dragging this out was no solution.
Although Chaos Intergalactic Warriors, due to the corruption of Chaos, were not exactly sane, they were not idiots. If delayed too long, they would definitely sense something was off. By then, the situation would be even more difficult to handle. Yet, if he attacked this filthy fleet of Corrupted Foil here, any slight mishap could alarm them and he would almost instantly be surrounded and attacked by other legions of Chaos Intergalactic Warriors.
After all, the Tribunal represented the Imperial… even though the Imperial was already finished.
Now, the biggest issue was… who was commanding this fleet?
It couldn't possibly be Mortarion, could it… Hahaha… Hahaha… MMP!!
Looking at that huge, corrupted, greenish flagship at the center of the fleet, Duanmu Huai felt like cursing out loud. To be cautious, he had even brought Tutu along, and this was the result? Was his luck really this bad?
Just had to be Mortarion?
If it were Magnus, I wouldn't hesitate and would have gone straight in for the fight!
But Mortarion… isn't he the one who always stayed reclusive on his own planet? What the hell is he doing here causing chaos!
Gazing at the flagship before him, Duanmu Huai's expression turned gloomy.
In the days of the Human Empire, The Emperor had utilized Subspace Powers to create twenty Genetic Prototypes to fight for his grand expedition to rule the Human World. However, during the later Horus Heresy, aside from the two Genetic Prototypes that had originally disappeared, half of the remaining prototypes betrayed The Emperor, becoming the dogs of the Chaos Evil God.
If the Chaos Evil God was the final boss, then these corrupted Genetic Prototypes were fundamentally akin to the role of the Four Heavenly Kings.
Thus, the problem now facing Duanmu Huai shifted from whether or not to fight to how to fight. This was the first corrupted primordial he encountered in this world. Though in the game instance, Duanmu Huai had killed him 180 times, this was no longer a game, nor was there any chance to regroup after a team wipe. His only reliance now was his own power derived from the Soul Walker.
Among the corrupted Fallen Demon Primordials, Mortarion was one of the strongest fighters.
Hmm, perhaps not just one of them?
Being a believer in the Corrupted Foil, not to mention anything else, his health bar was indeed long, and his defense was indeed thick. If it wasn't for Duanmu Huai holding the Divine Position of the God of Destruction, he would have thought about turning around and leaving. In the game, these stinky tin cans and their boss's major characteristics were being beefy, highly defensive, and regenerative. If your attack wasn't high enough, they could fully heal in minutes. Luckily, his ability, Predetermined Death HP Cap Removal, was best used against these bastards. No matter how much you heal, I'll cut your HP cap and see how much you can recover?
With that thought, Duanmu Huai stretched out his hand and looked at the Soul Card in his hand, drawing cards, shuffling, drawing again, shuffling again.
Upon further consideration, there was really nothing that couldn't be fought. If the Grey Knights could banish Mortarion, couldn't he do it as well?
There's no way that's not possible.
Duanmu Huai clenched his fists tightly, then looked at the fleet before him. This was a whole plague fleet. If confronted head-on, the Tribunal would likely suffer tremendous losses. Luckily, Duanmu Huai had a trump card.
That was the Warp.
“Aikute.”
Duanmu Huai laid his hand on the command console before him, staring at the star territory map ahead.
“Here, Uncle Judge.”
“I want you to lead the fleet and teleport directly inside the opposing fleet, and I require that you destroy the other warships as quickly as possible. I will take five hundred Night Guards to jump onto the Fortitude, engage in close combat, and maximize damage in the shortest time possible to thoroughly eliminate the live forces of this fleet.”
As he said this, Duanmu Huai raised his head to look at Aikute.
“Can you do it?”
Hearing Duanmu Huai's inquiry, Aikute fell into silence. She certainly understood what Duanmu Huai meant; he wanted the Expeditionary Fleet to jump directly into the center of the opposing fleet through the Warp and destroy the enemy ships as quickly as possible. This command seemed simple but difficult to execute because Aikute needed to control all the warships. It was like commanding an RTS game where the commander needs to micromanage every unit to use skills. If Aikute could do it, they would win; if not, they would be encircled and completely annihilated by the opposition.
“Can you, or can't you?”
“I can!”
Finally, Aikute nodded firmly.
“I can do it! Uncle Judge!”
“Very good.”
Hearing Aikute's response, Duanmu Huai reached out, patted her head, then gripped the War Hammer tightly and turned away.
Meanwhile, Aikute turned to look ahead, then issued an order.
“All forces, attack!!!”
At the same time, on a filthy, ugly throne, a tall giant was sitting, its body swollen, with a pair of tattered, decayed wings unfolding behind it. Jets behind it spewed out a foul, corrupt stench with each breath of the giant, as countless flies swirled around it. The metal around had long since lost its original form, and chunks of meat emitting a foul smell enveloped every corner of this steel battleship, turning it from cold metal into a nauseating, flesh-and-blood monster.
The aroma of the real world……
Mortarion closed his eyes, breathing in the air filled with stench and bacteria, but his thoughts were elsewhere. After so many years of blockage, the gates that were once tightly shut were now slightly opened again to them. Gazing at the planet in front of him, Mortarion recalled the past–the grand expedition, and its failed conclusion. And now, they were about to embark on another expedition, just like the old times of the Empire, except this time they would once again spread the benevolence of the Father to every corner of the universe, until this universe becomes what it was meant to be…..
A corrupted world, full of bacteria and beautiful lives, where only the diligent are allowed to survive–an environment where survival of the fittest rules.
And this time, no one could stand in their way!
No one…….
“Report!!!”
The bird-like screeching that sounded like a bellows suddenly broke Mortarion's train of thought as he opened his eyes; simultaneously, the bird-like figure turned its head toward its respected Legion Commander.
“Subspace fluctuation detected! Oberon-class battleships detected, several Moon Class cruisers, and at least five squadrons of escort ships–the Dark Gods above, we have encountered an Imperial Main Fleet!”
“What? That's impossible!”
Upon hearing the bird-like figure's report, Mortarion abruptly stood up in rage.
“The Empire was already destroyed, the Star Torch extinguished, the Fake Emperor dead, how could there still be an Imperial Fleet existing? Where are they?!”
“They are right beside us!”
Accompanied by the wailing cry of the bird-like figure, Mortarion widened his eyes and turned to look out the side window, only to see a large warship shining with a golden radiance silently appearing beside his flagship. In that instant, seeing the warship, Mortarion was even momentarily lost in thought, as if he had returned to the past to the moments when the Emperor led the human expeditions, his fleet attacking and conquering planet after planet… No!
Mortarion paused, immediately snapping back to reality.
Why are these warships appearing inside his own fleet, and why did no one notice? Something was not right!
But at this point, Mortarion had no way to get an answer, because at the same time, the Macro Cannon already had its target in sight.
Immediately after, a burst of fire erupted.
The Fortitude shook violently, a tremendous impact causing disarray throughout the warship, as numerous corrupt beings screamed and flew off the deck, smashing into the gore-smeared walls alongside, adding a touch more brilliance to them.
Simultaneously, the command room's wall cracked violently open, and several jumping torpedoes smashed into Mortarion's bridge almost face-to-face. When Mortarion regained his senses, he saw Duanmu Huai already leading the Night Guard, gripping the Thunder Warhammer as he leaped down in front of him.
Looking at the skull and Aquila insignia on Duanmu Huai, Mortarion gnashed his teeth, clenching his scythe tightly.
“The lapdog of the Fake Emperor! The Empire is indeed destroyed, and still you linger on miserably?”
In response to Mortarion's roar, Duanmu Huai laughed.
“Oh my, isn't this Mortarion, Captain of the Fourteenth Legion's Death Guard? Long time no see, you're still as spirited, eh?”
“Seeking death!!”
Already enraged upon seeing the Imperial emblem, hearing Duanmu Huai's taunt made Mortarion's anger surge as he roared and swung his scythe down hard at Duanmu Huai.
Transformed into a demon after his fall, Mortarion was nearly thirty feet tall, and compared to him, Duanmu Huai looked minuscule; yet facing a scythe swing even larger than himself, Duanmu Huai advanced instead of retreating. He roared, both hands gripping the Thunder Warhammer. Black flames exploded under his feet, and then he raised his warhammer and smashed it fiercely against Mortarion's scythe!
A massive Psychic Blast instantly erupted in the bridge, both figures swaying but remaining in place. Meanwhile, Mortarion's Death Shroud guard also rushed forward with scythes, while the stinking Corrupted Foil Demon also did not lag behind.
However…….
“You think you're the only one who can shake things up?”
Duanmu Huai staggered, the radiance from the Soul Card in his hand flashing. The next moment, Ann, Greiya, Felin, Ogis, and Gavi appeared behind him. Duanmu Huai then raised his warhammer, pointing it at Mortarion.
“No need to talk about right and wrong with such a heretic. Everyone together, take him down!!”
