Chapter 955: Chapter 661: The Visitor_3 Chapter 955: Chapter 661: The Visitor_3 What is this thing? A spider-mutated human?
Gazing at the ghastly creature before him, Duanmu Huai was utterly baffled. He had never seen a mutant monster like this one before, but he was certain that these were the same creatures that had emerged from the woman's stomach back in Locke Town, because Duanmu Huai clearly remembered the mayor and the Guard Team Leader mentioning that the victim's body had been pierced and ripped apart by something akin to a spear………
Duanmu Huai looked at the segment in his hand, which appeared to be a human's elongated shin, except where there should have been a foot there was a sharply pointed end standing erect.
Yep, this must be the murder weapon.
However, this thing was clearly much larger than Duanmu Huai had imagined. Initially, it must have been hiding inside the woman's belly, so he guessed it would only be about the size of an infant, yet now the monster's body was almost the size of a strong, full-grown man.
What does it eat?…….Ugh, it couldn't be feeding on radiation, could it?
Duanmu Huai's expression darkened. He was getting more and more convinced that this was a conspiracy.
Twisted dead baby bodies, radiation-eating mutant monsters, plus a Stone radiating with nuclear energy.
Placing these three things together, they seemed to Duanmu Huai like the introductory plot of some mission, thick with cliche.
“Hmph!”
Duanmu Huai stamped on the twisted monster, squashing its body into a bloody mess of flesh, then clenched his fist and continued walking towards the interior–the mine was a maze of tunnels, but that didn't matter to Duanmu Huai anymore. All he needed to do was follow the radiation detector and locate the place where the radiation was most concentrated.
The deeper he went into the mine, the more of those eerie creatures he encountered. Duanmu Huai also saw the corpses of Soldiers who had entered the mine before. Their bodies were impaled; their abdomens sliced open, and their organs were scattered messily around. Clearly, the monsters that feasted on them did not seem quite adept at eating yet. However, Duanmu Huai did not doubt that after a few more tries, these creatures would learn the process.
Unfortunately for them, they no longer had the chance.
“Squeak, squeak, squeak———-!!”
The disfigured monsters screamed like rats lunging at Duanmu Huai. Their attack method was straightforward: They used their limb-like spears to pierce through their enemies' bodies and then rip them apart. But this move was utterly useless against Duanmu Huai, who didn't even bother to dodge. Instead, he let their attack hit him.
“Clang——–!”
Duanmu Huai stood firm as a rock, while the monster, on the other hand, screamed and recoiled backwards. But at that moment, Duanmu Huai had already extended his fist and slammed it into the body of the monster, splitting it in half. Then he grabbed the creature's remaining limbs and flung them violently, breaking the slender legs of another creature. As it fell to the ground, a steel boot came crashing down.
“Bang!”
The monster's limbs trembled once before becoming still.
“Trash.”
Duanmu Huai dusted off his hands, stood up, and continued forward. He could already hear the sound of running water, signifying that he was getting closer and closer to his destination. If he was not mistaken, once he turned this corner, he would see an underground lake, and at the center of that lake, there would be a glowing Stone.
But all Duanmu Huai saw was pitch black.
The sudden darkness was so thick that not even Duanmu Huai's searchlight could penetrate it until, moments later, when he saw the ceaselessly squirming deep red flesh and sharp teeth in front of him through the light, he realized what had happened.
“Damn it, what the hell is this?”
Duanmu Huai roared and reached out his hand to grab the mouth biting his head, then yanked it forcefully. The skin and muscle, which seemed rubbery, were brutally torn apart by Duanmu Huai, and soon, a crack appeared in the darkness. Duanmu Huai bellowed as he expanded the gap with another forceful pull, and then he threw the stupid creature that had attacked him onto the ground.
It was a snake.
However, it was not just any snake, but more like a fusion of strange animals, with a wolf-like head, the body of a snake, and even the feet and tail of a gecko. It looked bizarre and twisted. Unfortunately, in front of Duanmu Huai, this distorted, mutated monster had no chance; its head was already torn in half by Duanmu Huai, turning into a pile of flesh collapsed on the ground.
Then, Duanmu Huai saw the stone emitting a radiant glow.
“Beep beep beep beep beep———-!”
At the same time, the radiation alarm also grew rapidly louder; it was clear that the stone's radiation had exceeded the critical threshold. Luckily, Duanmu Huai's Power Armor was entirely capable of resisting such levels of radiation. He walked into the underground lake and approached the stone, gazing at it.
“Where are you from?”
Duanmu Huai wouldn't believe that this stone was locally sourced, it was over a meter tall, and it looked like a half-rounded stone radiating a bright, incandescent light. Duanmu Huai remembered that there were such minerals in the game; certain races would use them to create power systems, but they were considered a more rudimentary source of power.
Soon, Duanmu Huai found the answer; he discovered a body not far from the mineral–a body that didn't belong to this world.
The reason Duanmu Huai was so sure was obvious, as nobody in this world would wander around in a spacesuit or Space Armor.
Except himself.
And this person now lay in the lake water; his cause of death was apparent. From his missing lower body, it could be seen that the deceased must have suffered an attack from a local monster and was torn in half before dying unluckily. Hence, the stone he brought was easily explained.
If the person who brought it died, the stone obviously couldn't sprout legs and run away, could it?
But when Duanmu Huai turned the body over and saw the swollen face covered in sores and the blasphemous, unsightly mark on its chest, Duanmu Huai got much more than he bargained for.
“Followers of the Corrupted Foil…”
Gritting his teeth with ferocity, Duanmu Huai glared at the corpse before him.
“You really ran to a very far place, didn't you…”
