Chapter 953: Chapter 661 The Visitor Chapter 953: Chapter 661 The Visitor “Huh…”
Duanmu Huai also opened his eyes at that moment and then stared at Mary collapsed on the ground, stunned for a second.
“What's this?”
“Ah… Miss Mary seems to be feeling a bit unwell…”
An and Greiya hurriedly came forward at that moment and helped Mary up.
“Did the magic fail? But I thought it was successful?”
Duanmu Huai could now clearly see a pink thread connecting himself and Mary.
Well, of course, the location was a bit indescribable–but considering this was a spell from the Pink Book, it seemed understandable?
“Um… It's just that Miss Mary isn't quite used to the magic yet, she'll be fine after some rest,” said An, also in a hurry.
“Alright then, I'll go out and take a look, you all stay here and take care of Mary.”
Duanmu Huai didn't think too much about it, he simply nodded and left the room. Watching Duanmu Huai depart, An and Greiya finally let out a sigh of relief. Then, they turned to look at Mary, who was still in a daze, her eyes glazed, breathing lightly, her body limp and powerless, with a blank face.
“… I'm very interested in the spell Mr. Knight just used.”
An stared at Mary and spoke in a low voice. Hearing An's words, Greiya was greatly surprised and turned to look at her.
“An?”
“Isn't it interesting?”
“Um… who do you plan to use it on?”
“Hehe…”
Upon hearing Greiya's question, An smiled at her, and seeing An's smile, Greiya shivered and instinctively took a step back.
Yes, everything was left unspoken.
Meanwhile, Duanmu Huai was freely experiencing the power of the Golden Pupil in the town.
“This is truly incredible… tsk tsk tsk, why doesn't anyone get it in the game?”
Looking at the world before him, Duanmu Huai couldn't help but feel moved.
Of course, if it were just for viewing, there seemed to be no difference. But when Duanmu Huai focused his willpower on his right eye, he could see different rays of light; Mary couldn't explain what these were, but Duanmu Huai understood at a glance.
These were direction markings.
In front of Duanmu Huai's eyes, each person had a direction marker, pointing straight into the distance, meaning that with just one glance, he knew where these people came from and where they were going. For example, that guard was planning to go to the nearby tavern for a drink, while the man on the other side was going to the river to fish, and even a black cat chasing a mouse, Duanmu Huai could see how it had climbed out of a broken window and then darted after its prey into an alley.
And if he focused on a particular target, he could see everything related to it.
Like the river in front of him.
“Is there a problem here?”
Duanmu Huai stood by the riverbank, looking at the river in front of him. The dim soul light inside the belly of the lady who was pregnant earlier was connected to this river; could it mean that the stillbirth was related to this river?
But there were no traces of curses or magic detected… Hmm…
Duanmu Huai stared at the river again, concentrating his attention, and soon his vision “reversed flow,” advancing in the direction of the torrential water, and then he arrived in a cave in the mountains. Next, Duanmu Huai saw a strange and dazzling flash of light in a large pond. In it, a stone was emitting a dazzling glow, and then…
“Ow!”
In the next instant, a sharp headache struck him, and it was only then that Duanmu Huai realized the thread connecting him and Mary had disappeared.
“Indeed, it's troublesome to use a Golden Pupil that isn't your own.”
Clearly, the Golden Pupil was a Divine Artifact, which in a game would be equivalent to an automatic directional cheat. It's like a player accepting a quest and a direction marker appears, allowing the player to simply follow the marker to complete the quest–it's straight-up cheating.
But unfortunately, it seemed it didn't support sharing; while there was no problem for Duanmu Huai, Mary couldn't sustain it anymore…
Well, regardless, the clue had been found, after all.
“Sir, it's terrible!!”
Just then, a guard came running over, panting heavily. He was pale and looked utterly terrified, while Duanmu Huai withdrew his gaze to focus on him.
“What's wrong?”
“Monster! There's a monster in the mine!”
The returning guard was one of those whom Duanmu Huai had ordered to investigate the mine with the boy. According to his story, the group had followed the boy to the entrance of the mine halfway up the mountain, only to discover that the mine–supposed to be sealed–had indeed been smashed open by something. They were all shocked and should have left immediately to report the news to Duanmu Huai, but some guards with a background in mining were muddled by the damage to the mine and entered the dark shaft to figure out what had happened inside.
But soon, the guards left outside heard screams coming from within; the soul-rending shrieks made everyone tremble, and they almost immediately dropped their weapons and ran back in a panic.
“I understand.”
Duanmu Huai pondered for a moment and then nodded.
