Chapter 920: 646 Chapter Invasion Chapter 920: 646 Chapter Invasion The wrath of the Spider Queen drifted throughout the Dark Region, and nearly all the Drow Elf Matrons and High Priests–regardless of which city they were in–felt the fury and edict from The Empress.
This left many Drow Elves greatly astonished, for there had been those who had previously attempted to defy or even rebel against the Spider Queen, but their ends were all invariably tragic. Of course, there were also a minority of Drow Elves who managed to escape the clutches of the Spider Queen, becoming followers of Elythne.
But they were very few.
A rebellion of an entire city like this was unprecedented in the history of the Drow Elves!
What on earth had happened?
Why did such a thing occur?
Many of the Drow Elf Matrons were perplexed and very uneasy. Many of them had lived for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and had never encountered anything like this in their experiences. The Dark Region was very dangerous, so cities among the Drow Elves rarely had frequent contact, with only some caravans or ambassadors sent as Diplomatic Envoys traveling among the different Drow Elf cities.
It was precisely because of this that when the Matrons of the City of Fana'thim learned that a Drow Elf Army was approaching them, they could scarcely believe their ears.
War between Drow Elves? That was madness!
The Spider Queen would not allow it!
The Spider Queen appreciated betrayal and chaos, but all had to be done covertly; any overt warfare was not permitted. This was also one of the “social justices” of the Drow Elves, even warfare between two families had to be constrained to their own territories, ensuring that it went unnoticed. All the more so for warfare between two cities!
“Spider Queen above, what on earth is this?”
Matron Tina stood atop the city wall, her face gloomy, her hands tightly grasping the railing, looking forward—-in the vast open space ahead, an army was slowly approaching them. It was a Drow Elf army, but… it was not just Drow Elves.
Matron Tina could see that the Drow Elf Soldiers leading the procession looked very strange; their bodies had become twisted and bizarre, with limbs resembling tentacles sprouting from their arms. Their faces had lost the original handsome features of Drow Elves, turned into something resembling the head of a spider, and when they opened their mouths, it felt as if spiders were moving their mouthparts.
Not only that, but Matron Tina also saw many dangerous creatures of the Dark Region, such as the Basilisk–a terrifying monster that could petrify its prey with just a gaze, and had three sets of fangs and claws. By all accounts, Basilisks would attack all other creatures of the Dark Region, including Spirit Absorbing Monsters and Drow Elves.
But now, they seemed to be part of this army, menacingly prowling the flanks of the battlefield. Moreover, Matron Tina noticed that these Basilisks seemed to have undergone some strange transformation; their heads ballooned like blisters, sprouting several eyes that rotated ceaselessly within their sunken skulls, making Matron Tina feel nauseous at the sight.
What kind of ghostly army was this? What on earth was this?
Matron Tina could hardly comprehend what she was seeing, certain that not even devils or demons would commit such frightful acts. And the appearance of these Drow Elves instilled a sense of horror and unease.
They were Drow Elves, but they were not just Drow Elves.
What exactly were they?
As Matron Tina pondered, she saw the army suddenly part, and then a Magical Floating Disc slowly advanced forward, upon which stood a Drow Elf Priest. From the looks of it, she did not appear twisted or bizarre like the other Drow Elves, but Matron Tina felt that this priest seemed far more dangerous than the others.
However, now was not the time for her to retreat. Matron Tina moved towards the high platform, staring at the other side, and began to shout angrily.
“Are you the commander of this army? Tell me, where does such a vast Drow army intend to go? Why come to Fana'thim?!”
“Respected sister, I am Philray, Envoy of the Spider Queen!”
Philray raised her hands, staring at the city wall before her, and cried out loud.
“I come here to spread the divine power of the Spider Queen!”
“…………”
The people on the city wall looked at each other with puzzled gazes, having expected to see a lunatic mocking the Spider God or a heretic spitting on her. But they were certain, the firm conviction in the Spider Queen that emanated from that Matron named Philray was as mad and devout as their own.
Then why would The Empress claim she had betrayed her?
“I do not understand your meaning! Sister, this is not your city! And we are well aware of and respect The Empress……”
“No, you do not understand!”
However, before Matron Tina could finish speaking, she was angrily interrupted by Philray.
“What you worship is not the true Spider Queen, but a traitor who has usurped the Spider Queen's strength and position! And I, I have come here to let you experience the true strength and glory of the Spider Queen herself! You will understand that the true power of the Spider Queen is beyond what any impostor can compare to!”
