Chapter 907: Chapter 638: Tidal Fluctuations_2 Chapter 907: Chapter 638: Tidal Fluctuations_2 Upon careful reflection of Ogis's behavior during this period, and viewing her from the perspective of her creator, Gavi suddenly realized that Ogis was far from perfect. In fact, it was entirely possible that her creator would be disappointed if they saw the current state of Ogis.
After coming to this realization, Gavi suddenly felt as if she had lost all her strength. Defeating Ogis had always been her primary goal–after all, in Gavi's logic, defeating Ogis and proving herself stronger meant she could prove herself to be the perfect Puppet.
But now it seemed that Ogis was far from perfect, so even if she defeated Ogis, she could not become a perfect Puppet.
This meant that Gavi's goal was unattainable.
What did she have left then?
“Perfection, such a vague and ambiguous concept, really doesn't mean much.”
Duanmu Huai patted Gavi's head.
“You can be whoever you want to be, just like Ogis–let me tell you the truth, when she first started following me, she was much more silent than she is now, like a Puppet that could only walk. It was only after experiencing more that she developed emotions and feelings to become what she is now. And for the record, it wasn't me who made her this way.”
Duanmu Huai also wished his little darling would be a cozy cotton-padded jacket to him.
Unfortunately, this one was a drafty one.
“Don't you wish she would be more obedient?”
“Everyone has their own thoughts and personality. Forcing everyone to be the way you want them to be isn't fun at all, although I do wish Ogis would be a more considerate cotton-padded jacket for me… but this is also quite interesting.”
“Is that so…”
After hearing Duanmu Huai's response, Gavi thought for a moment, then her eyes lit up as if she had thought of something. She looked at Duanmu Huai with a smile and then snuggled up to him.
“Then, allow me to serve you in place of my good-for-nothing sister, Master. I'm not like her, I'm very obedient.”
“Hmm… then first…”
“First?”
“You have to learn how to make tea.”
“…I will try my best.”
“Thump.”
Just at that moment, Ogis returned. She flicked her hand, and then, whether intentionally or not, a shadow flew out from behind her, landing in front of Duanmu Huai and Gavi.
“I was over there, and it suddenly appeared, attempting to attack me.”
Ogis explained indifferently.
“Then I thought the Master might need it, so I brought it back.”
Under the firelight, one could see the creature bound by Ogis: slightly taller than a human, clad in a long robe, its most striking feature was its face–a visage resembling an octopus, with its mouth part undulating like an octopus's tentacles, and two dead fish eyes without a hint of life twinkled dimly in the firelight.
This was a Spirit Absorbing Monster.
“Well done, Ogis!”
Overjoyed at the sight of the Spirit Absorbing Monster, Duanmu Huai knew it to be one of the ugliest monsters in the Dark Region, even the whole world, notorious for feeding on the brains of its prey. Of course, what made Spirit Absorbing Monsters most infamous were their mental powers; they could easily manipulate the brains of other beings, controlling their minds. This was precisely why all creatures instinctively dreaded and avoided them.
Even more dire was the fact that when a Spirit Absorbing Monster controlled you, you wouldn't feel anything amiss. Regardless of your original character, beliefs, or goals, under its control, you would feel as though your entire existence was for the Spirit Absorbing Monster. You would serve the Monster, and should it be satisfied with your service, it would emit a sense of contented pleasure that would make the controlled feel grateful to tears, as though they had been graced by the Emperor himself.
But if the Spirit Absorbing Monster were displeased, the controlled would also feel a profound sense of guilt, as restless and anxious as a fawning dog that had upset its goddess, swearing to make amends with all they had–they would become the most loyal servants of the Spirit Absorbing Monster, appearing completely willing from within.
Importantly too, Spirit Absorbing Monsters were naturally cautious, hardly ever venturing far from the cities within the depths of the Dark Region. Ogis capturing one meant there was undoubtedly a city of Spirit Absorbing Monsters nearby.
At that moment, the Spirit Absorbing Monster lying on the ground was utterly bewildered. It had stumbled upon Ogis unintentionally, thinking her an easy target since she was alone. Thus, without hesitation, it initiated a psychic transfer, appearing before Ogis, and launched a Psychic Blast at her.
Confident that its Psychic Blast would leave her unconscious, the Spirit Absorbing Monster was instead surprised to see Ogis looking back at it in confusion, showing no signs of the expected effect. It was the Monster that ended up being swiftly bound by Ogis's threads and then dragged all the way here.
How could this be?
Up to this point, the Spirit Absorbing Monster could not understand why its Psychic Blast had no effect on the human girl before it–but, in fact, this was only to be expected. After all, whether it was Ogis or Gavi, no matter how human they seemed on the outside, in the end they were merely Puppets, constructed from inorganic materials, lacking the biological responses of a human brain, let alone spiritual qualities.
To the Spirit Absorbing Monster's Psychic Blast, attacking Ogis was virtually no different from attacking a Stone.
But now the situation was different.
The Spirit Absorbing Monster set its gaze on the massive armored warrior, its eyes lighting up.
Based on experience, Spirit Absorbing Monsters found that larger creatures were typically easier to control, especially one like this Black Armored Warrior who appeared to be a melee brute, suggesting a weaker will and minimal spiritual strength.
From the attitudes of the two human girls, it was clear that the Black Armored Warrior was their master. If the Monster could control him—-!
However, the Spirit Absorbing Monster did not act immediately; it surely noticed the terrifying and eerie Power Armor the other was wearing. The Monster could not recognize what it was but remained wary of the possibility that it might be some kind of Magic Equipment resistant to mind control. So it simply lay on the ground, playing the part of the helpless and weak.
Well, if one disregarded the Spirit Absorbing Monster's formidable mental powers, from a purely physical standpoint, their bodies were indeed weak and defenseless.
And Duanmu Huai's joy wasn't exclusively because the city of Spirit Absorbing Monsters was now within reach, but also because he had found a perfect experimental subject.
The Spirit Absorbing Monster was skilled in psychic powers while the Old God's Will could destroy all mental spirits.
So, which was stronger?
“Let's find out,” Duanmu Huai said, as he grabbed the Spirit Absorbing Monster and lifted it up, then removed his own helmet to reveal a ferocious and evil smile to the Monster.
