Chapter 870: Chapter 611: The Next Step Chapter 870: Chapter 611: The Next Step “No…what on earth happened!”
Standing on the bridge, Tasadar looked at the desolate and barren planet before him, unable to believe what he was witnessing. The Supreme Council had accused him of deception and demanded his return for a trial, but Tasadar was not willing to give up just yet. He first rescued the Dark Chapel Warriors imprisoned, and, only after confirming that he had found a way to fight and destroy the Brain Bug, did he rush back.
In fact, when Tasadar called Aile midway and received no response, he already had a bad feeling, but at that time, he still believed that the Star Spirits would not be so easily eradicated.
But…the sight before him was beyond even Tasadar's worst imaginable nightmare.
Aile, their home, was utterly destroyed.
What used to be a beautiful planet had now become a charred stone—-to some extent, Tasadar would rather have seen Aile overrun by insect swarms, because then at least there would have been hope of reclaiming their home. But now, there was nothing left; alien bugs, Star Spirits, all life had been completely extinguished.
“Who is it! Who could have committed such a horrifying crime!”
Tasadar clenched his fists tightly, shouting in anger. Of course, he knew what kind of attack had caused this, as he himself had used similar means before. However, Tasadar believed that no Star Spirit would ever turn their guns on their beautiful home. Of course, what confirmed this for Tasadar were the craters on the planet Aile. These craters were not caused by bombings, they appeared more like someone had dug them out with something!
That is to say, someone not only destroyed their home but even excavated it thoroughly!
No Star Spirit could ever commit such a brutal act!
“Whoever it is, I will find them and make them pay the price!”
In this moment, Tasadar gazed at the remains of Aile, inwardly swearing an oath within his heart!
A trivial Star Spirit's trivial oath, of course, would not affect Duanmu Huai. While Tasadar was kneeling on the bridge, weeping over the destruction of his home, Duanmu Huai had already met up with his fleet, singing songs and eating hotpot—-it goes to show that joy and sorrow among people are completely disconnected.
And when Duanmu Huai returned to the fleet, he was surprised to find the Exelion had come back again.
Didn't expect it to be so fast.
Duanmu Huai was somewhat surprised by the arrival of the Exelion; however, after he was invited by the Great President to sit down for a meeting with him, Duanmu Huai then understood the situation.
While Duanmu Huai and his group were busy outside the Solar System, things inside the Solar System had not been idle. The war between the Earth Federation and PLANT had become increasingly fierce. Of course, on the whole, the Earth Federation was at a disadvantage. Moreover, because of the actions of an Earth terrorist organization, “Blue Cosmos,” PLANT had suffered numerous terrorist attacks. This gave PLANT a legitimate reason to invade Earth. Chairman Dillandar of PLANT directly made a speech, claiming that the series of wars were being manipulated from behind the scenes, and Blue Cosmos was the principal culprit. He also released a list that included many celebrities, tycoons, and even high-ranking officials from the Earth Federation and Oub.
Chairman Dillandar's speech immediately ignited the anger of the people suffering from the war, and they started to seek explanations, with many being directly arrested—-being associated with a terrorist organization, there were no excuses that could allow for their release.
As such, the Earth Federation was in a state of great turmoil, and at the same time, Chairman Dillandar also accused Oub of harboring the leader of Blue Cosmos and demanded his surrender, or PLANT would launch an attack.
Then Oub naturally refused and so, taking advantage of the chaos within the Earth Federation, PLANT launched a major offensive.
Then Oub fell again.
Incidentally, PLANT did indeed find the leader of Blue Cosmos in Oub, once again proving that those who claimed neutrality could not be trusted.
By then, the Earth Federation realized that PLANT had reached their doorstep, and if they did not resist, they would be doomed. So, they gathered all their strength in preparation for a final battle with PLANT.
Logically speaking, it was time for PLANT to beat the Earth Federation and unify the Solar System once and for all.
But for some reason, whether he had a screw loose or something, Chairman Dillandar suddenly dropped a bombshell during the pre-battle speech.
The Destiny Plan!
According to Chairman Dillandar, the contradiction between Earthlings and PLANT people lied in both sides believing they were superior. The war erupted because they could not compromise. To stop the war, there was only one solution–the Destiny Plan!
The so-called Destiny Plan, proposed by Chairman Dillandar, treated naturals and adjusters equally, conducting genetic testing on them and, based on the results, assigning them to jobs they were best suited for. In his view, this way, nobody would worry about losing jobs to others, since everyone would just do what they were best at.
As a result, after listening to the speech, the Earth Federation was the first to object. Though what Dillandar said sounded reasonable, the fact remained that naturals could not compete with adjusters. You talk about fairness, but even with talent, a natural could only jump three meters while an adjuster could leap five. How could we even talk about what's appropriate? Moreover, this completely ignored individual free will, forcibly arranging their lives–this was utterly intolerable!
So the morale on the side of the Earth Federation soared instead.
Even PLANT was thrown into chaos by Chairman Dillandar's remarks; it had been said before that because PLANT's population consisted of Coordinators with genetic defects, the birth rate was very low. Hence, the law did not allow people with incompatible genes to marry. In other words, even if two people were in love, they could not get married if genetic testing showed they were unable to conceive a child.
This naturally led to many problems, and many residents of PLANT disliked this practice. Now, Dillandar wanted to take it a step further; not only would he control whether they could marry and have children, but he even planned out their entire lives. How could they tolerate this?
As a result, compared to the Earth Federation whose morale was boosted, shouting for the fight for freedom, PLANT's morale plummeted to the point of complete disarray. Not only that, but in the midst of the chaos, Chairman Dillandar himself was assassinated.
With that, PLANT's advantage was lost; because of Chairman Dillandar's sudden death and the chaotic plan he suggested before his demise, splits began to form within PLANT. Seizing the opportunity, the Earth Federation counterattacked, pushing PLANT back, and once more, the situation reached a stalemate.
In such circumstances, many became despondent; they didn't care whether the Earth Federation or PLANT won, they just wanted the war to end. So when PLANT was close to defeating the Earth Federation, people breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that at least the war would finally be over.
But who would have thought that the leader from PLANT turned out to be an idiot…
Now it looked like the fight between the two sides would be endless.
In light of this, many turned their sights beyond the Solar System–blow up the Solar System all you want, I don't care, I just want to find a place without war, to live peacefully!
It just so happened that the Exelion was returning to Earth to report the elimination of the Cosmic Monsters in the Bird Head Galaxy, and so it was requested to help escort another convoy.
And it was for this reason that the Exelion had come here for the rendezvous. Of course, after making contact with the convoys, the crew was aware that beyond the Solar System wasn't a land of peace, but their resolve remained firm–they would rather fight with the universe's monsters than continue to slaughter each other.
Fighting monsters didn't even leave psychological scars.
Interestingly, because the convoy had previously panicked due to an Alien bug assault, many wished to return to the Solar System and had even started protests, which even the Great President's attempts to calm down had little effect. But with the arrival of the second convoy, after hearing the newcomers' stories, those who had been protesting… quietly slipped away.
Joking aside, looking at it this way, the Solar System would probably continue to be at war for a hundred years!
It's better to just drift out there.
At least, when not encountering monsters, one can still have days of peace.
Beyond that, they had another mission to undertake.
The Earth Federation Army had confirmed that the goal of the Cosmic Monsters was humanity; therefore, they needed to ensure the total elimination of all Cosmic Monsters at once, to completely eradicate this threat to humanity. Therefore, they came up with a plan familiar to Duanmu Huai–create a gigantic Black Hole Bomb, and toss it into the Center of the Milky Way, to blow up the lair of the Cosmic Monsters!
However, this time, the Federation Army did not use Jupiter to create the Black Hole Bomb as in the game, since they also worried that if the Earth Federation and PLANT got too heated in their fight, and were to actually detonate the bomb in the Solar System, the consequences would be disastrous for everyone involved…
Thus, they found a planet in Voyage Star System F, whose volume and size were just right to serve as the core for the Black Hole Bomb.
The only problem was… according to scouting reports, that planet was the home planet of the Vajra–the same monster that had previously attacked the convoys.
In other words, in order to save themselves, humanity needed to invade and occupy the Vajra's home planet, then compress it to one-thirtieth thousandth of its size to create a Black Hole Bomb, before hurling it towards the center of the Milky Way to destroy the nest of the Cosmic Monsters…
Tsk tsk, such are humans.
Of course, this plan came with a prerequisite–that the Tribunal was willing to help.
After all, due to the war between the Earth Federation and PLANT, most of the warships had to remain in the Solar System, and the only one capable of fielding a large fleet with the power to confront the Vajra and Cosmic Monsters was the Tribunal.
Right now, there was no way to free up enough personnel from the Solar System, nor the power to do so.
For this, Duanmu Huai naturally would not refuse.
After all, completing this task would allow him to take the first step towards becoming the Avatar of Calamity.
