Chapter 857: Chapter 600: The Green Hell Chapter 857: Chapter 600: The Green Hell Although Duanmu Huai was eager to try out his mecha immediately, unfortunately, he never found the opportunity. Afterwards, the colonial fleet remained very peaceful, with just a few Vajra attacks, and everything else was calm.
Duanmu Huai also discussed with the Great President the issue of the destination of this migration fleet, but the President could only tell him that, after all, it was their first time stepping out of their own solar system. Up to now, although they had locked onto some potentially habitable planets through satellite observation, as for how suitable they really were–that was unknown.
After all, as everyone knows, starlight takes many years to reach Earth, the conditions of the detected planets might not match up with the present. In fact, the fleet had found a planet during their warp jumps which, by all accounts, should have been fit for human habitation, but by the time they arrived, they found that its atmosphere was completely ruined, turning it into a bare, stony sphere–of course, not fit for human dwellings.
This time, they were heading to another planet in the Proxima Centauri system. Well, hopefully, they wouldn't encounter any cosmic monsters or Vajra again.
It must be said, their luck was incredibly good.
“I really didn't expect it; they actually found it.”
Gazing at the lush green planet before him, Duanmu Huai also showed a look of surprise. After all, in the vast and boundless universe, finding a planet suitable for human habitation is too difficult, and yet the colonial fleet managed to find such a planet in Proxima Centauri after only two jumps…
Could their luck really be that good?
“Master, does this mean they will settle here next?”
Ogis stood beside Duanmu Huai, gazing at the planet before them and asking, while Duanmu Huai shook his head.
“Not necessarily. Although this planet looks very normal at first glance, who knows what's really here–honestly, these kinds of planets, which seem ideal for life, are actually the most troublesome. Because you can't be sure there is not another civilized race present, nor can you be certain there are no bacteria or viruses unsuitable for humans. To be honest, I actually prefer those desolate planets; at least there's nothing messy on them.”
But this planet was another story.
“Huh? Does that mean we can't go and have a look around?”
Upon hearing Duanmu Huai's words, Anton revealed a disappointed expression.
“No, to be cautious, we should wait and see. Moreover… the colonial fleet has already sent people to investigate. Let's see what their conclusion is.”
While saying this, Duanmu Huai looked towards the colonial fleet nearby.
And at that moment, aboard the colonial fleet, the Great President seemed very excited and thrilled.
“I really didn't expect that we would be this lucky.”
Looking at the report sent by the first recon team, the President's face flushed with excitement. According to the report, this planet had a high oxygen content and was suitable for human habitation. Moreover, scans confirmed that there were no signs of any civilized race on this planet. Of course, there were quite a few alien creatures; some of them were massive in size and could be a potential threat to humans.
Of course, such a threat was definitely negligible to the colonial fleet.
“Mr. President, do we need to start colonizing it immediately?”
“No, first send a recon team to build a watch post and a base on the surface. We need a thorough investigation of this planet.”
Even though he was excited, the President still maintained a certain degree of calmness. After all, he remembered the various rules and regulations. Sending a large number of people to such an alien planet would be akin to sending them to their deaths.
However… even knowing that, the President was still overcome with enthusiasm.
After all, this was humanity's first planet outside of their own solar system–if they could successfully colonize it…
“Form the recon team and set out immediately.”
Snapping out of his reverie, the President issued the command decisively.
Soon, a recon team boarded a spacecraft and left the fleet, then passed through the atmosphere and landed on the surface of this green planet.
“Click——–!”
The hatch opened, and the fully armed soldiers, wearing isolation suits and carrying weapons, descended from the ship, cautiously vigilant of their surroundings.
“Air is normal, no toxins.”
“Temperature is slightly high, humidity is high too.”
“Is this an alien planet?”
The leader of the recon team also exhaled upon seeing the strangely shaped green vegetation before them, feeling somewhat exhilarated. Although they had been prepared to colonize alien planets, they didn't expect it to come so easily, which indeed surprised them.
But now was not the time for such thoughts.
“Organize the supplies immediately; we have to build the watch post before it gets dark!”
At the command of the team leader, everyone quickly got to work, clearing the land around them, unloading supplies, expanding, and starting to construct the base and install equipment.
“I thought it would be my grandson's generation that might live on an alien planet. I didn't expect it to happen this quickly.”
In the outer perimeter of the camp, one soldier operated his equipment while speaking to his comrade.
“If only humans had left the Solar System earlier,”
“Yeah, those PLANT guys, insisting on fighting the Earth Federation to death, what good does that do? If they had followed the Colonial Fleet and left the Solar System to find another way, the Solar System wouldn't have turned into this hellish place.”
Another soldier nodded in agreement.
After all, those who joined the migrating fleet were escapees from the war between both sides and naturally didn't think highly of either.
The Earth Federation isn't anything good; PLANT isn't much better.
“Whoosh!!”
As the two were chatting, suddenly, the nearby bushes shook violently, and both soldiers immediately gripped their weapons, looking towards the bushes not far away.
“What's that?”
“Who knows, could it be alien monsters? Be careful!”
While speaking, they cautiously approached the bushes and raised their guns to aim at the bushes. Then, under their aim, the bushes shook once again, and soon after—-a figure emerged.
“Pipi??”
It was a furry little creature, about the size of a cat, with big round and bright black eyes and a long, fluffy, soft tail – it looked quite adorable. Obviously, the little animal had never seen humans before, and now it was curiously tilting its head, sizing up the two of them.
“Hey, look at this little cutie.”
Seeing the small, cute, furry alien animal in front of them, one of the soldiers immediately lowered his gun and walked towards it.
“Hey, be careful, this is an alien creature.”
His companion stayed in place, cautioning him, and of course, he also lowered his gun—-after all, the little animal seemed no bigger than a domestic cat and appeared to be harmless; it didn't seem to be dangerous, right?
“Pipi? Pipi??”
As the soldier approached, the little one continued to stand still, curiously staring at him. The soldier squatted down and carefully reached out to pet the little one's head.
“Ah, it's really cute, and so friendly too…”
“Hey, don't get too addicted to it.”
As if sensing that there was no danger, several more of the same creatures quickly jumped out from the side. They curiously circled the two soldiers and even climbed onto them — and well, considering they were just some cute little animals, it didn't seem right to shoo them away.
“You want to give it a try? It feels really nice.”
As he spoke, he continued to pet the little one's head and play with its chin. Under the soldier's strokes, the little creature squinted its eyes, showing a comfortable expression. The soldier continued to laugh and move his hand down… and just as his hand touched the furry little animal's belly, suddenly, a transformation occurred.
The little animal's belly suddenly split open right down the middle, turning into a gaping maw filled with sharp teeth and firmly biting down on the soldier's hand, tearing his right hand right off!!
“Ahhhhhhhh!!”
The intense pain made the soldier scream loudly, startling the birds in the forest, and before he could react, the little creature screeched “Pipi” again. It leapt like a bullet straight onto the soldier's chest, opened its mouth, and bit through his neck!
“Bang!”
The soldier's body fell to the ground, convulsing uncontrollably.
“You damn monsters!”
The other soldier was shocked. He hurriedly tried to escape, but already surrounded by the little creatures, he couldn't get away. As the creatures leaped onto him, sharp claws extended from their furry paws like knives and stabbed into the soldier's body. Under severe pain, he fell to the ground after running only a few steps; before he could grasp what was happening, a multitude of furry creatures swarmed over him and ripped him to shreds!
“What's going on? What happened?”
At this moment, the reconnaissance team leader, having heard the screams, rushed over with other team members. They were shocked at the sight of the two soldiers, torn apart and reduced to a bloody mess.
“Fire, kill these damn things!!”
Following the team leader's order, the rest quickly raised their weapons and attacked the seemingly adorable, furry creatures.
However, what happened next was even more unbelievable.
Their bullets penetrated the creatures' fur but utterly failed to breach their defenses. Immediately after, they watched in horror as the bodies of the little animals began to inflate like balloons, their furry outer skin falling off. In the blink of an eye, the previously fluffy and exceedingly cute creatures had disappeared completely, replaced by monsters filled with nauseating flesh, backs sprouting scythe-like sharp blades, and fearsome fangs that radiated terror!!
Before the team leader could give another order, the surrounding forest violently shook. The next moment, innumerable alien beasts surged forth like a flood of flesh and blood, completely engulfing everyone.
