Chapter 770: Chapter 549 Professor Palmer's Request (New Month Seeking Monthly Tickets)_4 Chapter 770: Chapter 549 Professor Palmer's Request (New Month Seeking Monthly Tickets)_4 “Sure, do you have rooms?”
“Of course, please write your names here.”
As he spoke, Williams walked over to the front desk, pulled out a guest register, and Duanmu Huai signed his name on it. After that, he took the register and flipped through it.
“By the way, I'm looking for someone who should've stayed here, his name is James Fraser, have you seen him?”
As he spoke, Duanmu Huai pulled out a photo from his pocket and handed it over. Spotting the photo, Williams stared closely at it, while the elderly man in the wheelchair just shook his head silently.
“Sorry, I don't recall seeing this young man. Unfortunately, he hasn't stayed here.”
“Oh.”
Duanmu Huai took back the photo, watched the others sign their names on the register, then looked at the two old men again.
“By the way, it seems like there's a page missing from the back of the guest register?”
“Ah, that's because I accidentally spilled the tea cup and dirtied that page, so I tore it out.”
“Oh, I see. Speaking of which, aren't you two gentlemen worried about safety here? It's quite a distance to the city and seems rather dangerous.”
“Haha… What are you saying, sir?”
At Duanmu Huai's inquiry, Williams revealed an awkward smile.
“We're just two lonely old men, who would care about us? And as you said, there aren't many people who come here on most days, most guests only stay one or two nights. Oh, right, we have eight rooms here. Room one and five each have two single beds, room four and eight each have one double bed, and the rest of the rooms only have one single bed. Rooms six to eight are occupied by other guests, so you can only choose from the remaining ones. Each room is 50 pence per night, payable in advance. There's hot water in the rooms, but we only have oil lamps for lighting. Please sort out your own meals.”
“Alright then.”
Duanmu Huai paid and booked one double-bed room and a single room. Lorena and Mary would sleep in room one with two beds, and the maid would stay in room two. As for Duanmu Huai, he decided to head back to his cargo van – after all, the space in his vehicle was larger than the inn's accommodations.
However, before leaving, Duanmu Huai gathered the three of them together.
“Check your rooms thoroughly before you sleep tonight.”
Duanmu Huai swept a glance at the inn beside him, lowering his voice as he spoke.
“There's something off about those two old guys.”
“Huh? Really?”
Upon hearing Duanmu Huai's words, Mary seemed rather surprised.
“But to me, they just seem like ordinary old men.”
“Well, someone like me has already hinted that their place isn't safe, and yet these old men are not the least bit flustered. Either they're hiding something, or someone else is, either way, I reckon these old men are not as harmless as they seem, so you'd all better be careful.”
Having held the post of Judge for so long, Duanmu Huai could discern normal people from those with ulterior motives. While previously examining the photograph, the two old men's reactions seemed odd. The elder man in the wheelchair didn't even glance at the photo, even when Duanmu Huai waved it in front of his face. Meanwhile, his brother, Williams, was talking nonsense.
Duanmu Huai knew for a fact that James had called his father before and mentioned he'd be resting at the inn, so by all logic, he should have stayed overnight. Not to mention, a page was missing from the inn's guest register – what a coincidence, to be missing right when he arrived.
Trying to fool him?
If these two old men were innocent, Duanmu Huai would unscrew his own head and kick it like a ball.
“What about you, sir?”
At Mary's query, Duanmu Huai chuckled before reaching into his pocket to pet his black cat.
“Me? Of course, I'll be staying in my van, let's see if they dare to try anything under my nose.”
