Chapter 760: Chapter 546: Slaying Monsters for Treasure_3 Chapter 760: Chapter 546: Slaying Monsters for Treasure_3 “Beep……Beep……Beep……”
After what sounded like a busy signal beeped nine times, the sound abruptly cut off, as though the line had been disconnected. However, Duanmu Huai didn't seem to care and began to speak.
“I've caught a Miguel, and raided their research station, come and get it if you want it. The location is……”
After precisely stating the location, a moment of silence followed from the other end.
“Please stand by.”
After uttering the sentence, the call was hung up.
About half an hour later, accompanied by a rumbling sound, Duanmu Huai saw several helicopters flying overhead, hovering around the ranch. Soon, dozens of fully-armed soldiers slid down ropes from the helicopters and quickly arrived in front of Duanmu Huai. He nonchalantly kicked a Miguel, that was incapacitated and appearing like a dead fish without its central nervous system, towards them.
“This is the one.”
As for the other one, whose head Duamnu Huai had twisted off, it had naturally melted away.
“………”
No one spoke, only the leader of the soldiers acknowledged Duanmu Huai with a nod, and the latter waved his hand in response.
“I'll be on my way then, you folks can take care of things here.”
With regards to how the foundation would handle things, Duanmu Huai was unconcerned. He returned to Baskerville Manor and found the Baroness, informing her of the situation.
“While it's hard to say for sure, I think everything should be over by now.”
Since the Miguels weren't in the habit of keeping diaries, Duanmu Huai couldn't get their story. However, judging by the illusions he'd seen previously and his subsequent experiences, he was fairly certain everything was over.
So all the trouble for the Baskerville family should be resolved by now.
“Is that so……”
Upon hearing Duanmu Huai, the Baroness and the old butler had some complex expressions. After all, they had just discovered a hidden room downstairs, revealed a previously unknown secret of their ancestor's, and now Duanmu Huai had suddenly asked about the Dominique Family recorded above, then left without a word, only to return and tell them everything's over……
Well, anyone with a bit of sense would be able to guess something.
“Excuse me…… Mr. Duanmu, could it be that you, like our ancestor, are a demon hunter?”
“Similar, I guess. There are quite a few people in the world who do similar work, of course, it's quite dangerous. As you've seen, much like your ancestor, failing is not uncommon.”
Duanmu Huai spread his hands, and spoke.
“So I think, unless it's absolutely necessary, don't worry too much. Just live your life the way you want. After all, this job is too dangerous, as you can see, one misstep and you could lose your heirs.”
As for the Baroness's thoughts, Duanmu Huai could roughly guess. She probably wanted to inherit her ancestor's legacy, to become an investigator or demon hunter or something.
Honestly speaking, Duanmu Huai didn't recommend that. Ordinary inheritances were one thing, but this could lead to the end of their lineage. If the Baroness hadn't been pregnant, the Baskerville Family lineage would have probably ended.
Besides, it's one thing to be caught up in it, but now that things have been resolved, Duanmu Huai doesn't see the need to jump back into this mess.
After all, most investigators in this world are more often than not forced to get involved.
Those who jump in voluntarily…well, one would have to question whether there was something wrong with their ancestry. Especially those who frequently dream of diving into the sea, they might be Deep Divers or something……
Whether it was Duanmu Huai's persuasion or not, the Baroness never brought up the topic again, and for Duanmu Huai, his work was finally at an end.
And, so, a relatively peaceful Christmas came to an end.
The reason for saying relatively peaceful is due to the disturbance on Christmas night causing unease among the town's residents. The sudden sound resembling hundreds of dogs barking simultaneously lent an atmosphere of fear, and some people even called the cops—-of course, due to the thick fog, the police didn't dare to act rashly, and so, under fearful anticipation, the residents welcomed the new morning.
Of course, they didn't find anything afterwards.
Compared to Duanmu Huai, Mary, on the other hand, seemed tired—-Honestly, being chased around outside by those creatures didn't bother her, she was used to that. But after returning to Baskerville Manor, her friends found out that she had been out late at night alone with a man, nearly giving her a heart attack. Although Mary seriously explained that she merely went out for a walk, however……
“As a lady, it's not okay to go out with a gentleman late at night!”
“Yes, yes, A'Xie was very worried too, what if something happened to Mary!”
Er……you guys don't think Mr. Duanmu did anything inappropriate to me, do you?
Seeing her friends' worried expressions, Mary could only……feel at a loss for words.
Strictly speaking, she was disqualified the moment Duanmu Huai carried her over his shoulder like a sack. If Shirley had seen it, she would have fainted on the spot.
Unfortunately, Duanmu Huai seemed utterly oblivious to Mary's worry and left with Lorena right after Christmas. The lonely Baroness then invited Shirley and the others to stay for a few more days……but that's a story for another time.
When Duanmu Huai returned to his residence in Fog City, he received an anonymous black envelope.
Inside the envelope, there was only a card marked with C-Class Personnel.
“Phew, it's over, it wasn't a trip in vain this time.”
Looking at the card in his hand, Duanmu Huai let out a sigh of relief. With this, he had transitioned from D Level Personnel to C-Class Personnel, not only did his permissions increase to be able to access some not so dangerous containment objects, but he was also entitled to certain special equipment.
In this way, he was one step closer to getting the blueprint for creating a reality anchor.
