Chapter 698: Chapter 515: Apartment_2 Chapter 698: Chapter 515: Apartment_2 “Of course, the apartment I've found is tailor-made for you!”
“Oh?”
Hearing this, Duanmu Huai showed interest. He looked curiously at the manager and asked him to elaborate.
“Go on.”
“Well, it's like this…”
Listening to the hotel manager's account, Duanmu Huai finally understood why he was so confident. According to the manager, during his search for accommodations for Duanmu Huai, he encountered an artist holding an exhibition. Coincidentally, the theme of the exhibition was “The House of the Giant”. The artist purchased an apartment and filled it with extraordinarily large furniture and decorations so as to give visitors a new perspective on the world – one where they felt small compared to their surroundings, like a mouse or a cat – hence creating a unique experience.
To recreate everyday life accurately, the artist had gone through great lengths to remodel the entire apartment. Even vehicles and other modes of transportation had been resized. Visitors felt as though they had entered a world of giants. This exhibition became incredibly popular in Fog City.
Now that the exhibition was about to end, and Duanmu Huai was looking for a home, the hotel manager negotiated with the artist who was delighted with the idea. After all, he had been worrying about what to do with the exhibits once the exhibition ended. Ordinary people would have no use for such oversized furniture, but if Duanmu Huai was indeed a giant, it would be perfect…
The artist, being wealthy, told the manager he would like to meet Duanmu Huai. If Duanmu Huai is as described, he could consider giving away the entire apartment.
He could certainly afford it.
Duanmu Huai found this intriguing. It had been hard to find a suitable place after coming to this world. The artist might be eccentric but if his apartment met his needs, it could be a good choice.
After breakfast, Duanmu Huai took the address from the hotel manager and arrived at 135 Birch Street.
The apartment was not far from the Ritz Hotel, with Hyde Park nearby and plenty of restaurants, a shopping center, and a subway station within walking distance – not that anyone lived there given its purpose.
No one would open an art store in a residential area, right?
Arriving at the entrance of the apartment, even Duanmu Huai was taken aback.
Just as the hotel manager had described, the entire structure was hugely larger than regular apartments, enough for normal people to get lost, but just about right for Duanmu Huai.
With this in mind, Duanmu Huai decided to buy it as long as the price was reasonable!
Duanmu Huai knocked on the door and was soon greeted by a thin man with a mustache and a beret – unmistakably an artist. The man was momentarily stunned to see Duanmu Huai, then his eyes lit up.
“Ah, you must be the guest Mr. Lorenzo mentioned, please come in, come in!”
Perhaps due to his artist nature, he lacked the British gentleman's restraint and was as enthusiastic as a Frenchman. Smiling, he ushered Duanmu Huai inside and began examining him curiously.
“When Mr. Lorenzo told me, I couldn't believe it. I never thought there'd be someone like you in this world… I wonder how the world looks through your eyes compared to ours.”
“It's almost like looking at a kid's room.”
Duanmu Huai muttered, and the artist, taken by excitement, nodded and began introducing his artistic apartment to him.
In fact, the hotel manager's explanation was slightly off. The actual purpose of this apartment, or 'Vista' as it was called, was to provide observers a different perspective of the world.
That's why the artist had gone to such lengths to modify the building. The first floor was as the manager had described, everything notably larger than usual. The second floor was kept at an average size to act a realistic contrast after experiencing the giant world. The third floor was converted from an attic. Whilst the space was smaller due to the accommodations of the first and second floors, it didn't deter the artist who turned it into a room suitable for a child, with every ornament and piece of furniture being small in size.
