Chapter 557: Chapter 413 Assault_1 Chapter 557: Chapter 413 Assault_1 The elevator slowly descended to the lowest level. Li Longcheng adjusted his clothes before stepping out of the elevator. The soldiers assigned to protect him quickly dispersed, examining the surroundings for issues. After ensuring everything was normal, they nodded at Li Longcheng, who then proceeded down the passage, walking straight until he reached the end of the corridor.
This was a secret underground research facility, and in truth, even within the Star Union, few were privy to its secrets. Li Longcheng was here because he had received a message from a confidential source– an level member had privately contacted him, claiming to have uncovered the reason for the Tuggy People's attack on the New Shanxi Colony. Due to the gravity of this matter, the informant insisted on revealing the information only to Li Longcheng personally.
Although Li Longcheng also doubted whether it was a trap, ultimately, he had decided to make the journey himself.
“Click…..”
The door of the research room slowly opened. What appeared before Li Longcheng wasn't a clean, orderly space, but a place resembling an underground mine. Traces of destruction were still visible. Within this subterranean cavity, a man stood blankly, staring at the stone wall in front of him.
Hearing the door open, he turned his head. His small, sleep-deprived eyes, marked with deep circles, squinted at Li Longcheng.
“Well, well, I really didn't expect the second-in-command of the Star Union to actually show up here. Honestly, I thought you'd send someone else instead of coming yourself.”
“You should understand why I've come here, Dr. Herman.”
Li Longcheng strode into the research room, fixating his gaze on the man before him.
“You said you knew why those aliens attacked the New Shanxi Colony. I came here for a definitive answer.”
Li Longcheng was taking a risk by coming here, but to him, this was a calculated gamble. Until now, no one understood why the Tuggy Fleet suddenly attacked the New Shanxi Colony, even launching an attack on the human fleet. This was the central argument the Pacifist Group made–they insisted that, without knowledge of the enemy's origins, negotiations should be the initial approach, followed by attempts to understand their intentions over time.
However, Li Longcheng didn't see it that way. Since the Shenbao Council was an intergalactic political organization of the Milky Way, they should be well aware of the dangers of launching an attack on the colonies of other races. Not every race may be kindhearted and easily bullied; there was always the possibility of counterattacks.
Despite this, the Tuggy Fleet insisted on attacking the New Shanxi Colony, even occupying it until the Star Union launched a counteroffensive and repelled them–an unnatural occurrence.
“Hehe, since you're here, I'll cut to the chase.”
While speaking, Dr. Herman moved towards the control panel and activated the system. Soon, the surrounding lights illuminated a metallic stele standing at the centre of the spacious cavern.
“This is……..”
“The Prolo Deity relics, I presume these aren't unfamiliar to you.”
Li Longcheng nodded. Of course, he was aware of them. The Prolo Deity relics were remnants of an alien civilization discovered by humans. According to scientists, this civilization was once the pinnacle of the Milky Way, leaving behind countless artefacts beyond human imagination. The Prolo Deity civilization mysteriously vanished without a trace. Also, much of the technology obtained by the Star Union after venturing into the universe was derived from the excavated and researched Prolo Deity relics, making every single one of them of vital importance.
“You're suggesting…the Tuggy People came here for the Prolo Deity relics? Is it possible the Divine Assembly also has Prolo Deity technology?”
“Perhaps, but what I've found is even more interesting…”
As he spoke, Dr. Herman let out a small chuckle, then reached out his hand to press some buttons on the control panel. Soon after, luminescent tendrils emerged around the metallic stele, enveloping it like lightning.
Noticing this, Li Longcheng furrowed his brows, watching Dr. Herman, who only shrugged.
“The Prolo Deity stored all knowledge and images within their consciousness, and reckless linkage by ordinary people could pose unknown risks. Hence, I activated the content within the beacon this way, to extract its contents under safe conditions, albeit it's incomplete at the moment.”
As Dr. Herman spoke, the glittering electric corona around the metallic stele began to shine even more brightly. Then, 3D-like illusory images began to form in front of the stele.
These were a group of humanoid creatures resembling insects, adorned in cosmic armor and possessing bug-eyes. Li Longcheng instantly recognized they were the Prolo Deity, albeit he had only seen them in mural relics and this was his first time seeing the Prolo Deity in a 'living' state.
At that moment, these Prolo Deity individuals were gathered together, looking up towards the sky as if gazing at something. After a pause, they lowered their heads and knelt.
Then, Li Longcheng saw several extraordinarily large figures appear in the image.
These giants stood over two meters tall, clad in hefty blue armor and armed with guns and longswords. He then saw a Prolo Deity elder step forward, utter something to the giant armored figures, who nodded and handed over a small block to the Prolo Deity elder.
The elder of Prolo Deity knelt on the ground in immense gratitude; simultaneously, the figure in the blue armor in front of him removed their helmet, revealing– a human face.
However, in the next moment, perhaps due to overheating, or some other reason, the surroundings faded, and the machinery began emitting a piercing alarm, then promptly stopped operation.
“……What is this?”
Li Longcheng and his subordinates were dumbfounded watching it.
He knew of the Prolo Deity, but… why were there humans in there?
“This is why I asked you to come.”
Watching Li Longcheng's shocked expression, Dr. Herman laughed, while Li Longcheng forcefully shook his head.
“This is impossible! Human history doesn't record anything like this! According to previous studies, the Prolo Deity disappeared thousands of years before humans even existed! How could they be together?”
“That's also my question, but… it indeed appears to be the truth.”
As he spoke, Dr. Herman pointed at the metal stele.
“If you don't believe it, you can confront the beacon directly. Perhaps you will be able to understand all this without losing your sanity….”
Having heard this, Li Longcheng swallowed hard, his gaze fixed on the metal stele, momentarily speechless.
At this moment, Li Longcheng felt as if reality was absurd, as if the world as he knew it had completely collapsed.
“This….This is a lie!”
Finally, with a dry throat, Li Longcheng managed to utter these words. He felt his words were particularly dull. His tongue, which had once roused cheers from millions on the podium, gathering people together and uniting hearts, now felt like it had been frozen, incapable of turning even a single bend.
Even though Li Longcheng was not a historian or a scientist, he knew that if all of this were true, then…….”
“Boom!!”
Just then, a dull roar and vibration suddenly interrupted Li Longcheng's thoughts. He frowned, looking upwards.
“What happened?”
“We've been attacked! It's the Batarei!”
“What?”
Hearing the report from above, Li Longcheng was taken aback.
“How did they get here? Damn it, where's our fleet? Where's our Guardian Fleet?”
“We can't make contact, the communication is cut off, they don't seem to be here! The enemy's attack is ferocious, we……”
But before the sentence was finished, along with a scream, the communication was cut off once again.
“The Batarei……”
Li Longcheng, being a military man, promptly took out his weapon from within his embrace as he sensed danger. He signaled to others to immediately gather around him. Then, Li Longcheng glanced at Dr. Herman, who quickly raised his hands in surrender.
“I am not involved, you should be more concerned about a problem within your ranks. Of course, if you don't believe me, you can handcuff me.”
“Then get cuffed.”
Li Longcheng directly ordered his men to handcuff Dr. Herman whilst getting himself ready for the fight. At this moment, Li Longcheng's mind started working again, quickly analyzing the current situation.
The Batarei's arrival here could not be a coincidence. He was aware their fleet was still stationed above New Shanxi and, theoretically, these aliens should not have been able to break through the defense to get here. But now, they were here. Even though it was possible that Dr. Herman was a spy, it made Li Longcheng suspect that it might be the work of those who didn't want to see him in power, using others to execute their dirty work!
Just thinking that those people were actually secretly colluding with alien races… It was despicable!
With this in mind, Li Longcheng gripped his weapon tightly and stared at the door.
He had a premonition, an ominous feeling, that he might actually die here.
“Boom!!”
In that moment, the sealed door was blown open, followed by a group of Batarei, weapons in hand, storming in.
“Fire!!”
At Li Longcheng's command, they aimed at the enemy and pulled the trigger. Instantly, gunfire broke out, and both sides swiftly engaged in a fierce battle.
At first, Li Longcheng managed to suppress the Batarei's onslaught with firepower, but the enemy quickly responded. Soon, two or three large mecha emerged from the center, pushing forward through the hail of bullets.
“Damn……..”
Witnessing this, Li Longcheng gritted his teeth. He didn't expect these Batarei to even bring automatic mech suits…! His side only had a few small pistols, completely unable to counter such an enemy!
Is he really going to die here today?
“Thud…. Thud…. Thud!!!”
However, just as Li Longcheng was pondering his strategy, he suddenly heard heavy footsteps approaching from the other end of the corridor. He looked up, only to see a tall, dark figure charge in, knocking Batarei soldiers out of the way and forcefully advancing. The figure then swung its War Hammer, striking the mech suit with great force!
“Boom!!!”
With just one blow, the automatic mech suit, which had previously taken the defense force's onslaught undamaged, exploded and shattered!
