Chapter 515: Chapter 384 Core Contradiction_1 Chapter 515: Chapter 384 Core Contradiction_1 “Rumble, rumble, rumble——!!!”
Under the cover of brooding clouds, thunder rolled loud.
The howling gale brought with it a downpour, which, as it pelted against the window, made a sound that went “rat-tat-tat” .
The sound frighted the blonde girl lying in bed to a sudden shudder. She sat up and looked around before taking a deep breath.
This blonde noble girl was none other than Emmy, the daughter of Laton, a high official in the Kingdom of Seth.
However, she was without her usual swagger. Her complexion was as white as a sheet, her face haggard, and she appeared visibly disturbed.
Sahamu's body was left in a park in the First Class Citizen Area. His head was skewered on a wooden pole with a note left by the killer explaining the reason for Sahamu's death. He was allegedly masquerading as a Swordsman Knight, slaughtering Second Class Citizens, deserving a severe punishment.
The upper echelons didn't pay much heed to the incident. After all, many high-ranking officials and nobles in Seth behaved similarly, only that none were as foolish as Sahamu, going to the Second Class Citizen region to meet their end. Therefore, to Seth's officials, Sahamu had met the same fate as others who danced too close to danger for amusement, eventually drowning in the river.
However, Emmy knew, that the game of playing Swordsman Knight was her idea, and Sahamu, her fiance, was merely trying to lend her a hand!
She was unnerved ever since the news of Sahamu's murder got out. While nobody else knew about it, she was well aware that she was the one behind it all. Sahamu was her fiance, that's why he was trying to please her. Now, she was just lucky that her father didn't know Sahamu perished because he was trying to entertain her; otherwise, their family might face retaliation.
Even so, Emmy was still terrified, despite living in the safest part of the First Class Citizen Area and her father assuring her that the security team would keep her safe. Fearful and guilt-ridden, she shut herself in her room. Her father thought that she was distressed because of her fiance's death and didn't suspect any other reasons.
She dared not tell her father the truth about Sahamu's death, as that would land her in significant trouble!
So, she stayed holed up at home, not daring to step outside. Even then, Emmy was not at peace. Sahamu was her fiance who died because of her “game”. Even though murder was not new to Emmy, as she had seen her fiance killing those Second Class Citizens multiple times, they were merely people to her, unlike Sahamu. He was her fiance, a familiar face. Witnessing the death of someone she knew was a vastly different experience than witnessing a stranger's death.
In fact, she has been having nightmares these past few days, dreaming of Sahamu, with his twisted neck asking her why she didn't save him, pointing at her shouting, “It is all your fault, you owe me!”
Frightened, Emmy had not slept well for days.
For some unknown reason, she had a sense of ominous foreboding, as if something terrible was about to happen to her.
Meanwhile, at the headquarters of the Resistance Organization, Duanmu Huai was giving a lesson to Wu Luze — or rather, the leader of the resistance was seeking advice from Duanmu Huai on any potential solutions to the current state of the Kingdom of Seth.
Besides Wu Luze, both Kendou Kanami and Masou Shizuka joined in out of interest, as they too wanted to hear what Duanmu Huai had to say. Apart from them, Sho and the Old Doctor also wanted to hear out Duanmu Huai's explanations due to their respective motives.
However, the very first statement from Duanmu Huai surprised everyone.
“Strictly speaking, the First Class Citizen's condescension towards Second Class Citizens is justifiable.”
“Huh?”
This, understandably, left everyone flabbergasted.
So, the First Class Citizens' discrimination against Second Class Citizens was justified?
“Do you remember what that man named Sahamu said before?”
Duanmu Huai turned towards Kendou Kanami and Masou Shizuka, the latter nodded in response.
“Of course, that man said Second Class Citizens were no different from beasts and wild animals before First Class Citizens. He was merely exterminating monsters, which hardly constituted a crime…”
While saying this, Kendou Kanami revealed a look of disgust, and Masou Shizuka nodded in agreement.
To everyone's surprise, however, Duanmu Huai's following response shocked them.
“In a way, he was right.”
“Sir???”
Wu Luze felt like her ears were ringing. Was he helping or hurting them?
“Let me review for you the legal standards of the Kingdom of Seth…… perhaps the gentleman over here would like to take this.”
As he said so, Duanmu Huai motioned at the elderly man in a white coat beside Wu Luze.
“Would you mind restating the differences between First Class Citizens and Second Class Citizens of the Kingdom of Seth?”
“Alright.”
The old doctor didn't quite know where Duanmu Huai was headed but proceeded to nod in agreement before continuing.
