Chapter 1260: Chapter 851: Encounter the Enemy, Critical Hit Chapter 1260: Chapter 851: Encounter the Enemy, Critical Hit “Ahhhhhh!!”
The young Ghoul leaped up and pounced towards Mary. Seeing this, Yamane was shocked.
“Be careful, Miss Mary, this guy is tricky!”
“I know, leave it to me.”
Hearing Yamane speak, Mary responded quietly, then with a slight tilt of her body, she easily dodged the Ghoul's lashing tentacle.
The youth missed his stroke and swung the tentacle again, trying to force back Mary, but in the next instant, the girl once again gracefully sidestepped past the flying tentacle as if dancing.
Meanwhile, the young Ghoul roared in anger.
“Ghouls twist the world… Is that really so? Does Miss Liang'Zi truly deserve to die? And Chushi! Her precious family's lives have also been taken! They are no different from humans; why can't humans understand?”
Hearing the young Ghoul's roar, Yamane wore a complex expression, but Mary just stared at him.
“How can there be no difference? Aren't they monsters who live off eating humans?”
“Eh?”
The crisp voice of the girl struck like a Sharp Blade, tearing through the Ghoul's rage. Surprised, he looked at the girl before him with wide eyes.
“Are you not the same, wanting to devour me? Then, what do you want humans to understand about you? Understand you, then be eaten by you? If that's the case, then what's there to understand between the two sides?”
“No, it's not… I… I'm not…”
Faced with Mary's words, the young Ghoul held his head with both hands, trembling uncontrollably.
“I'm not… a monster that eats people…!”
“Well, it seems you have your own hardships, but I'm sorry.”
Mary stopped moving and raised the Magic Wand in her right hand.
“The Tribunal exists to protect humans, and any threat to humans must be eliminated, without exception.”
“Ahhhhhh!!”
The Ghoul's tentacles extended again from behind him and, like a bullet, he surged forward, lunging at Mary.
Then, in a flash of cold light.
The Light Blade, cold enough to freeze the soul, easily pierced through the Ghoul's corpse, splitting it in two. The body spun in the air, froze into ice, then crashed heavily to the ground–shattering like ice.
“I'm really sorry.”
Mary bowed her head, silently standing before the shattered remains.
“But… The Tribunal will protect humans at any cost.”
Then, she spoke.
The sharp scream echoing far away in the gloomy sewer startled the girl, who instinctively glanced towards the exit.
Jin Mu–!
For a moment, she wanted to leave immediately and check on Jin Mu. But now… she couldn't even move an inch.
The reason was clear–the tall, fierce-looking man who had appeared before her.
“My apologies, Mr. Duanmu.”
Investigator Mahoru forced himself to stand, staring at the girl with a cold smile, and then spoke.
“You too, Mr. Mahoru. I didn't expect you'd be upended in a sewer–since this place is indeed a sewer.”
Duanmu Huai chuckled. He had arrived just in time to see Investigator Mahoru being attacked by the two Ghouls before him. If Duanmu Huai hadn't intervened in time, Mahoru would have been dead by now.
“Leave the rest to me. You're in no condition to fight.”
“Then I'll leave it to you.”
Investigator Mahoru looked at his severed right hand and sneered, then stepped aside. Duanmu Huai, on the other hand, clenched his fists, eyeing the two Ghouls before him.
One appeared to be a little girl about ten years old, roughly the same age as Bambi, with the black eyes and bright red pupils characteristic of a Ghoul. Behind her, spread out Kakuhou and tentacles like butterfly wings, while beside her was a blue-haired girl about fifteen or sixteen, clenching her fists, fixedly staring at Duanmu Huai.
Such a terrifying presence!
The blue-haired girl bit her teeth fiercely. Even when she had almost been killed fighting the investigator, she had not felt such terror. The man was not just fierce-looking. Merely standing there, he exuded an aura akin to a beast baring its great jaws.
“Why…”
At this moment, rage and grievance filled the blue-haired girl's heart. While shielding the girl behind her, she glared at Duanmu Huai–as if a mouse was protecting its young while staring down its natural predator.
“Why do we have to be treated like this! Chased without reason, our loved ones killed like ants, what's wrong with wanting to survive when we can only eat humans, what other way could we survive with these bodies?! How do we live rightly?! I just want to survive like you…”
“Ha? What does that have to do with me, monster?”
However, the blue-haired girl's sorrowful plea was met with Duanmu Huai's contemptuous and indifferent reply. He narrowed his eyes, coldly staring at the blue-haired girl, without a trace of sympathy in his gaze.
“To humans, to the Tribunal, you are monsters that threaten humans–that's all that needs to be known.”
At this point, Duanmu Huai clenched his fists tightly.
“What? As a monster that devours humans, do you really think you can coexist peacefully with humans? Lying to humans is one thing, but lying to yourself is just pointless. Face reality, you lowly scum, no matter how much you wail and lament, you ultimately cannot change the fact that you are monsters who eat humans, and there is only one end for all of you!”
Upon hearing Duanmu Huai's response, the blue-haired girl's eyes turned even more blood-red.
“Die! Die die die!”
The next moment saw a set of bright red, seemingly light-condensed wings suddenly appear behind the blue-haired girl, and then like a bolt of lightning, she charged towards Duanmu Huai!
“All of you, just die!”
Along with the blue-haired girl's roar, dozens of spikes shot out from her light wings towards Duanmu Huai. However, Duanmu Huai did not even try to dodge, just standing there. The spikes seemed to hit Steel Armor, bouncing off his skin. Then, Duanmu Huai bellowed and reached out his hand to seize the blue-haired girl's light wings.
“This is my line, die, monster!”
As he shouted, Duanmu Huai's right hand forcefully twisted, brutally breaking off the blue-haired girl's light wings from her body!
“Ahhhhhhhh!”
Intense pain caused the blue-haired girl to let out a pained scream, but in the next moment, Duanmu Huai grabbed her head and pushed it directly into a foul drain.
“This ends here, Ghoul.”
While speaking, Duanmu Huai lifted his right hand and ruthlessly tore the blue-haired girl's head from her neck, and her headless body, now silent, collapsed into the gutter.
“Hmph.”
Duanmu Huai stood up and tossed the blue-haired girl's head, still attached to a section of the spine, to the side. He then looked up and walked towards the girl in front.
“Ahh… Ahh… Ahh…”
As Duanmu Huai approached, the girl sitting paralyzed on the ground turned deathly pale and was rendered speechless, only able to emit continuous, baby-like cries. Then–Duanmu Huai reached out and grabbed the girl's neck, lifting her high up.
“If Mary were here, I could tell her the difference between this whelp and Bambi.”
As he looked at the trembling girl in his hand, Duanmu Huai snorted coldly.
“At least, Bambi doesn't live off of eating humans.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Duanmu Huai's fingers exerted a slight effort.
“Snap.”
The next moment, the girl's neck was forcibly twisted, her head limply falling against her chest. Her eyes were still wide open, as if she could not comprehend the reality of what had happened to her.
But for Duanmu Huai, it no longer mattered.
“Oh dear oh dear…”
Watching as Duanmu Huai discarded the body, Investigator Mahoru approached with a smile.
“To be honest, I thought you'd hesitate.”
“Don't joke about that. The Tribunal specializes in dealing with these monsters. Only the foolish who follow their morals instead of their senses are unfit to be members of the Tribunal.”
In response to Investigator Mahoru's tease, Duanmu Huai raised an eyebrow.
“That's good to hear, though it's a bit awkward, could I bother you with one thing?”
“What is it?”
“I found something interesting on that creature.”
Investigator Mahoru pointed at the headless body to the side and then took out a matchbox.
“This is?”
“A coffee shop called 'Safe Zone.' It looks like that should be the 'Rabbit's' den. By rights, I should head there immediately, but…”
While speaking, Investigator Mahoru shook his empty sleeve.
“So, I regret to ask, can the Tribunal run this errand?”
“No problem.”
Of course, Duanmu Huai understood what Investigator Mahoru meant; if that coffee shop was indeed the Ghoul's den, their failure to return would surely raise the alarm of others, and it's possible the group would choose to flee immediately. So, the best approach was to capture them all at once.
“The coffee shop, I'll handle it; you guys take care of things here.”
As he said so, Duanmu Huai cast a glance at the fallen bodies before turning toward the exit–then he stopped.
“Oh, right. I called you earlier wanting you to recommend some fun places for us.”
“No problem.”
Hearing Duanmu Huai's words, Investigator Mahoru chuckled.
“When this is over, I'll take you to my favorite restaurant.”
“I'll be counting on it.”
