Chapter 1119: Chapter 766: Kidnapping? Chapter 1119: Chapter 766: Kidnapping? The young girl's body trembled in the air, the tentacles entwined around her body and limbs ceaselessly stretching forward. Eventually, the girl bound by tentacles began to shake wildly, like a puppet about to collapse, and then she fell heavily to the ground, motionless.
“Phew… That's finally dealt with.”
Duanmu Huai silently wiped the cold sweat off his forehead–it had really been a close call. Fortunately, as an Old God, he possessed the ability to call upon other similar beings, and it just so happened that Duanmu Huai knew the Lord of Tindalos was a sworn enemy of Yog Sothoth. This knowledge allowed him to successfully summon it, and with the Lord of Tindalos entangling Yog Sothoth, the latter could not continue its descent. Taking advantage of the moment, Duanmu Huai rapidly eroded the “terminal” and successfully severed her connection with Yog Sothoth.
However…
What a troublesome thing this is.
Looking at the girl lying unconscious before him, Duanmu Huai frowned. Although he had closed off the “terminal,” the girl's soul was already linked to Yog Sothoth. To put it simply, if Yog Sothoth were a pool, then the girl would be the faucet, and now a pipe connected the two. Smashing the faucet would only make the water gush out of the pipe even faster.
But if the faucet were sealed…
“What a hassle; I can't kill her, and I surely can't let her live either. Hmm, let's see if there are any useful items…”
As Duanmu Huai muttered to himself, he began to rummage through his inventory. In preparation for unforeseen circumstances, he had acquired quite a few magical items in the Faelun World, and now he wondered if there might be anything inside… Ah, of course, there was.
Duanmu Huai reached out with his right hand and pulled out a Crystal Prism. It was a trophy he had obtained from the treasure chest of the Shadow King after he had killed him, a Divine Artifact capable of casting a binding spell on a designated target. Of course, not everyone would fall for it, but as long as it could be sealed, there should be no problem. It was said that the binding spell would completely freeze the flow of time for the subject, much like putting them into stasis, which seemed to be a good solution for the time being.
Duanmu Huai took a deep breath, then looked at the sleeping girl and raised the Crystal Prism in his hand.
“Get in there.”
With Duanmu Huai's words, the girl disappeared in the next moment, as if she had never existed. At the same time, in Duanmu Huai's Crystal Prism, the silhouette of the sleeping girl appeared. It looked like a crystal sculpture.
“For now, this will do.”
Satisfied, Duanmu Huai nodded at the girl imprisoned within the Crystal Prism and stored it away.
Though sealed, she was not without use. After all, she was a conduit linked to Yog Sothoth, and she might come in handy should he encounter the Evil God again in the future.
But before that… Just to be on the safe side, you better keep on sleeping.
Having pocketed the Crystal Prism, Duanmu Huai looked around. The small town had completely eroded by then, perhaps due to the destruction of the core that maintained the Magic Workshop. What had been a bustling town now resembled an ancient city in the desert, with only ruins left behind.
Thinking this, Duanmu Huai extended his hand again.
“By the power of the Command Spell, return now, Medea, Alice Phil.”
Following Duanmu Huai's words, in the next moment, the two figures reappeared beside him, looking at him anxiously.
“MASTER, are you alright!”
“I'm fine.”
In response to their concerned questions, Duanmu Huai shook his head.
“Medea, Alice Phil, I need you two to investigate this place and see if anything has been overlooked. Although I believe there shouldn't be a problem, still, be as cautious as possible. The Magician himself wasn't much to speak of, but he had meddled with a troublesome entity, so you both should be careful as well.”
“Yes.”
A Magic Workshop that had ceased to function posed no problem for Medea and Alice Phil. Soon, they found the core area of the Magic Workshop and, unexpectedly, the corpse of the Magician.
Fortunately, this idiot had the habit of keeping a journal, which allowed Duanmu Huai to learn the full story.
The Magician had once been a Nobleman and, like other Magicians, he sought to open the vortex of the Root, to enter inside the Root itself. For this reason, when he was young, he wandered the world and, during the period of the war for independence, went to the American Continent as a British soldier, eventually reaching a small town called Salem.
After investigating the witch trials that occurred there, the Magician conceived the idea of using religious beliefs as a foundation to open the vortex of the Root. He found descendants of a family that were targeted in the witch hunts and brought them back to England. Using the Spirit-falling Technique, he forced the survivors to resonate with the witch from back then, then imprisoned them within crystals, using this as the core to create the town.
Of course, as Alice Phil had said, this was not something any ordinary Magician could achieve–even the twelve Monarchs of the Clock Tower would struggle to enact such a grand magical ritual. But this Magician was different; he had obtained a mysterious Sorcerer Book from the ruins of the witch's abode in the town of Salem, and it was with this book that he accomplished this great feat.
And that book was…
“The Book of the Dead, huh…”
Duanmu Huai felt a stomachache just looking at the book handed over by Medea. Although he had guessed as much, actually seeing the book left him rather speechless.
And of course, that idiotic magician had no clue what they were handling and ultimately went mad, dying by suicide, leaving behind only this self-operating magic workshop–which meant that even if the ceremony had finally succeeded, they would not have witnessed the root of the vortex.
However, the fact that the witches of this world actually possessed the Book of the Dead suggested that the witch trials probably weren't baseless rumors after all, and it was most likely an invitation for trouble.
Duanmu Huai received the Book of the Dead from Medea, uninterested in even glancing at it, and promptly lifted it up. In an instant, black flames emerged and in the blink of an eye, the book was reduced to ashes.
“How are things with the Spirit Vein?”
“The workshop has been dismantled, and the Spirit Vein will continue to flow downwards. The Furvidge Family shouldn't need to worry anymore.”
“That's good. Remind Fiore to have the Furvidge Family monitor this land. Although the issue seems resolved for now, precaution is still advisable.”
Duanmu Huai gathered his thoughts and stood up.
“Let's go.”
“Speaking of which, MASTER, your Command Spell…”
“Oh, I forgot.”
Looking at the back of his hand where the Command Spell had disappeared, Duanmu Huai slapped his forehead and then raised his hand–swiftly, a red light flashed, and three Command Spells reappeared on the back of Duanmu Huai's hand.
Indeed, a Command Spell was nothing but a condensation of tremendous magic power. Ordinary magicians didn't have the power to recharge a Command Spell and thus could only use it until it was gone. But for Duanmu Huai, it was akin to recharging a battery; once depleted, he simply recharged it.
Simple and convenient, hardly a big deal.
Of course, for Alice Phil and Medea, the Command Spell wasn't just a tool to bind them. It could also be used for some fun and games to add a bit of spice–like commanding them not to go anywhere without permission or using the Command Spell to increase their sensitivity several times… Hmm, it had to be said, it was quite thrilling and interesting.
With that, the Spirit Vein incident was thus concluded, and Fiore had agreed to Duanmu Huai's request, stating that the Furvidge Family's Artificial Humans would be dispatched to monitor the ruins day and night to avoid further issues. Chaldea also confirmed that the anomaly had been eliminated, which meant one more risk of world destruction had been averted.
However… there was still no word from the Animusphere Family.
To be honest, Duanmu Huai was getting a bit impatient. He even began to consider simply building Chaldea in the name of the El-Melloi Family in Antarctica… but there had to be a proper reason for that. Chaldea's construction had been justified by the observation of past and future, which was a subject of the Astronomy class. The El-Melloi Family wasn't skilled in astrology or divination, so what excuse could they use to easily gain the Clock Tower's approval?
As Duanmu Huai pondered these questions, he received a summons from Reines, and when he followed her to the room, he was surprised to find a frail young man hanging upside down from the ceiling, swinging back and forth.
“When did you start learning about kidnapping?”
“Ah, dear brother, this isn't kidnapping. I've simply invited him over as a guest.”
“This isn't kidnapping… You've got him hanging here. Who is he, anyway?”
“Oh? I thought you, dear brother, would recognize him.”
“Me? Recognize him?”
Hearing Reines's words, Duanmu Huai frowned, then turned around, approached the young man, and looked down at him. The latter went pale with fear and trembled violently upon seeing Duanmu Huai.
“Hmm…”
Duanmu Huai examined the man carefully and then shook his head.
“I don't know this pretty boy with the long hair, but he does look somewhat familiar.”
“Oh? How about now?”
As she spoke, Reines gestured, and a servant stepped forward, covering the young man's hair. This time, as Duanmu Huai looked at the pathetic face, it seemed he finally remembered something. He stared intently at the young man for a moment, then clapped his hands as if having recalled a memory.
“You're… RIDER's Master?”
