Chapter 1107: Chapter 759: Abnormal Palpitations Chapter 1107: Chapter 759: Abnormal Palpitations For the Magician Family, constructing a Magic Workshop was an essential endeavor. After purchasing the Spirit Vein from the Clock Tower, the Furvidge Family had done just that. In architectural terms, they first needed to anchor the Spirit Vein like laying a foundation, making it easier to channel the power of the Spirit Vein into the Magic Workshop. Then they could fortify and utilize the workshop through the Spirit Vein.
However, they stumbled at this very first step.
Originally, the Spirit Vein flowed like a river from top to bottom, and building the magician's workshop was akin to constructing a dam downstream to intercept and harness the Spirit Vein for their own use. Naturally, the more powerful the Spirit Vein, the stronger its power. The Spirit Vein acquired by the Furvidge family was only as strong as a small river.
Then the problem arose when the Furvidge Family built the dam and planned to store water–where was the water?
It was supposed to be flowing downwards, so why had it disappeared?
Had they built a dam for nothing?
At first, the people of the Furvidge Family thought they were incompetent, having built it in the wrong place since a Spirit Vein wasn't a true, tangible river, but more like geomancy. It wasn't rare for a geomancer with poor skills to misjudge geomancy. So, they invited Fiore from the Clock Tower to take a look, and she went.
She discovered…
“That Spirit Vein has already been used by someone else, who even concealed that fact.”
According to Fiore, after she returned and conducted a thorough investigation, she realized the power of the Spirit Vein hadn't been stored because it had already been seized by someone. The Spirit Vein they thought they had was actually just an illusion created by someone using some method. Essentially, it had the aura of a Spirit Vein but none of its power–indeed, sufficient to deceive an average magician.
Naturally, Fiore was very unhappy about this. Generally, a Spirit Vein can only have one owner, much like buying a house through a real estate company and then finding out when you plan to renovate that someone already lives there–who could stand for that?
Hence, Fiore decided to confront them. She believed it must've been the doing of a rogue magician or a wanted magician, as only those who couldn't afford a Spirit Vein would resort to such sneaky methods of squatting. Although the Furvidge Family had declined, they were still considered a second-tier family in the Magic World, and furthermore, they had purchased the Spirit Vein through an official channel of the Magic Association–just by protesting the issue, the opposing party should retreat knowing the difficulty.
The land for storing the Spirit Vein was located in a nearby small town, but Fiore discovered upon arrival that the town was remarkably unusual.
You see, it is already a civilized society now, and though magicians tend to be retro, most still use phones, lights, televisions, computers, and other electrical appliances.
However, that town… It felt like it was still living in the medieval era where people used horse-drawn carriages, lit oil lamps in their homes, and showed no signs of modern civilization.
Of course, this wasn't proof of anything. Even in modern society, it's normal for isolated towns and villages to be primitive and backward. However, after entering the town, Fiore found herself lost, unable to locate the magician through the aura of the Spirit Vein.
Furthermore, that evening, Fiore and her companions were ambushed by the townspeople.
It was an attack without any warning; while they were still discussing in the town's inn how to find that magician, they suddenly saw flames blazing outside. Then they found themselves surrounded by all the townspeople holding torches, attempting to capture and kill her.
As a magician, Fiore wasn't afraid of these ordinary people. She initially wanted to reason with them, but they instead charged at her like they were crazed. Since magicians must maintain secrecy, Fiore couldn't retaliate in public and was forced to flee the town.
Escaping the town, Fiore grew increasingly angry–the thought that she, a Clan Leader of a Magic Family, was chased out by a mob.
So, the next day, she returned, looking to discuss matters with the town mayor.
To her surprise, the same townspeople who had ferociously chased her with torches the night before were now greeting her as if nothing had happened, seemingly not recognizing her at all.
Fiore wasn't a fool; she immediately realized that the entire town might be the workshop of that magician, and by stepping into the town, she had essentially entered the magician's workshop.
Thus, Fiore decisively chose to retreat–entering another magician's workshop unguarded was almost no different from suicide. She then sent someone to sneak into the town and abducted the town mayor, wanting to inquire about the situation. However, facing Fiore's inquiry, the town mayor insisted he knew nothing, and then… he completely turned into ash right in front of Fiore.
Indeed, he wasn't burned to ash, but rather the struggling mayor suddenly stopped moving. His “color” rapidly faded, turning into something akin to a clay puppet before he completely collapsed into a heap of sand.
