Chapter 1025: Chapter 704: Shuttling Chapter 1025: Chapter 704: Shuttling “`
The Sixty Second Expedition Fleet accelerated through the universe, like hungry wolves lunging at their prey.
Horus stood at the table, tapping his fingers impatiently, his eyes blood-red. The betrayal on the Eisenstein and their yielded location was an unexpected boon to Horus. After all, he had been genuinely worried–if the other party had resolved to play hide and seek in the Istvan Star System, things could have become much more troublesome.
“How much longer!”
“Reporting, my lord, ten minutes until we engage the enemy.”
“Prepare for battle. Let the World Eater spearhead the assault. We must completely destroy this damned fleet.”
With his order, the fleet began to change formation and then accelerated once more.
However, just at that moment………
“Attack detected!”
In the blink of an eye, several beams of light and shells flew from ahead, smashing into the midst of The Sixty Second Fleet. Several warships could not have anticipated such an attack; they hadn't even had time to activate their Void Shields before being struck by the sudden assault, exploding and catching fire, their hulls rupturing.
“What's happening! Where is the attack coming from?”
Horus asked furiously, and his Artillery Commander hastily answered.
“The attack comes from ahead!”
“Ahead? Didn't you say you hadn't detected any enemy ships?”
“We hadn't… they likely launched a long-range attack from beyond our scouting distance…”
The Artillery Commander hadn't finished speaking when more flashes appeared outside the window, and the Vengeful Spirit jolted fiercely.
“Damn it, activate the Void Shields, change the fleet's direction, and avoid the attack!”
Horus quickly commanded a change of direction without considering how the enemy knew their location. Yet the enemy's firepower seemed to have eyes, accurately hitting The Sixty Second Fleet just as they altered course. Although the damage was not substantial, it was enough to provoke rage.
“Damn bastards!”
Watching the scene unfold, Horus was seething with rage.
“Immediately disperse the warships, accelerate forward, go straight through them. I want those bastards to know our strength!”
The Sixty Second Expedition Fleet once again began to accelerate, but the sudden attack and subsequent maneuvering had caused noticeable disarray. Meanwhile, a destroyer silently emerged from the asteroid belt, accelerating towards the Sixty Second Expeditionary Fleet.
“Enemy sighted!”
This time, the Navigation Officer didn't miss the signal on the radar, loudly reporting.
“Where?”
“Beside us in the asteroid belt, they might have been hiding there all along!”
Horus looked up just in time to see a destroyer emerging, charging suicidally towards the Sixty Second Expeditionary Fleet. It was conspicuously illuminated by a golden glow from the chapel atop its battleship, which was almost blinding.
“Just one?”
“Yes, it might be their reconnaissance ship.”
“I see.”
Horus nodded. It was likely that this reconnaissance ship had been hiding there all along, reporting their position to the enemy, which enabled them to lock in and launch their attack. Unfortunately for the enemy, their little trick had been discovered, and now their good luck had run out.
“Destroy it!”
Horus gave the cold command.
Without needing Horus's orders, the warships of The Sixty Second Fleet had already opened fire on the destroyer. Volley after volley slammed into its Void Shield. But the destroyer did not flinch, heading straight for The Sixty Second Fleet. Soon, it started to burst into flames, gradually disintegrating until a shell penetrated its hull, turning the ship into a pile of twisted scrap.
Looking at the wreckage before him, Horus snorted coldly. This was not enough; his impudence alone dictated their fate–death was the only path for those people!
“No———-!”
But just then, the Navigation Officer began to scream in terror.
“No, get out of here quickly, spread out, the space———-!!”
Unfortunately, the Navigation Officer didn't get to finish his sentence. Abruptly, an anomaly began.
What used to be the shattered remains of the destroyer suddenly shook vehemently, and in the next moment, an almost pure white brilliance instantly filled what had been dark space.
“Detection of a Contraction Furnace reaction.”
“`
Aikute raised his head and looked towards Duanmu Huai.
“Everything is going according to plan.”
“Hmm, seems to be going smoothly.”
Duanmu Huai nodded as he watched the screen in front of him. He once again marveled at how, despite Aikute's timidness, his tactical level was truly first-rate. The plan had been to ambush a Reconnaissance Destroyer in the asteroid belt to lock down the position of the Horus Fleet, followed by Aikute's specialty of ultrlong-range shooting. Just as the Horus Fleet was thrown into disarray by the sudden attack, they had the Reconnaissance ship plunge into the enemy fleet to initiate a Contraction Furnace's contraction reaction, creating a mini black hole for a sweeping AOE.
With this combined attack and defense, even Horus would have to kneel.
Taviz and the rest of the Astarte were dumbfounded as they watched the spreading black ripples before their eyes.
What kind of black hole weapon was this?
“The Sixty Second Expeditionary Fleet… all destroyed??”
Watching the screen before him, Luo Ken swallowed hard and asked in a low voice, while Duanmu Huai shook his head.
“If only it was that simple, this move may be powerful but if they react in time to take refuge in Subspace, they could still escape disaster.”
At this point, Duanmu Huai sighed. Although he, too, hoped to take this opportunity to capture all four Demon originals in one fell swoop, unfortunately, he knew the possibility was not great. After all, the system had not given him a kill report, and considering the enemy had cast their lot with Chaos, it would be truly foolish if the Evil Gods didn't lend a hand at this point.
In fact, Duanmu Huai had the desire to stay and hit the enemies when they were down, but unfortunately, the opponent had four fleets to his one. Even if his fleet was of a higher level, fighting one against four was still a bit of a stretch.
So it was better to make a getaway first, shake off the pursuit, and then come back to fight.
“The fog of Subspace has lightened, prepare to disengage from the Istvan Star System.”
“Understood, prepare for the jump.”
The contraction reaction of the Contraction Furnace had created a miniature black hole, whose massive burst of energy was enough to temporarily disperse the Subspace fog enveloping the Istvan system's information, allowing the Starseer a brief glimpse of the outside situation and to locate a stable galaxy coordinate for navigation.
Of course, as to where exactly they were… leave it to fate.
“Depart!”
Upon Duanmu Huai's command, the space in front of the Tribunal Fleet was torn open and, the next moment, the fleet whooshed into it, disappearing into the deep space of the universe.
Traveling through the Void is not an easy task. If Subspace is like a vast sea, then the Star Torch is the lighthouse guiding the way. The area surrounding the Istvan Star System was like a sea shrouded in fog with turbulent waves. The black hole explosion temporarily tore open a corner of the fog, allowing those trapped inside a fleeting glimpse of the outside light.
But this was only for an instant, as the next moment, the raging waves and the heavy fog would come surging back, wrapping everyone up once again. They braved the storm, accelerating forward, breaching the raging waves and fog, following that glimmer of light, until at last, the twisting of Subspace reached its limit, and then, in the next moment, the view before the Tribunal Fleet and the Eisenstein shifted again.
The entire Warship trembled violently as a massive shockwave hit, causing Ann to scream and lunge forward, but Duanmu Huai was quick to catch her. Greiya stood beside her, her thick tail wrapped around a metal pole on one side, while Lorena had directly taken a horse stance–Hmm, quite stable at her base.
“Ugh… how could this happen?”
Nearly falling to the ground, Ann also complained.
“We've never encountered this when traversing Subspace before.”
“Before, we were traveling on a highway; this is a backcountry dirt road.”
Duanmu Huai pulled Ann up and spoke reassuringly. However, what Duanmu Huai said wasn't wrong–the Ancient Saints' webway was like an interstellar highway, naturally fast and smooth. But at the moment, their navigation system had essentially led them into the woods off the beaten track, and making it through the woods was itself a victory, regardless of whether there was a road or how steep it was.
“So, where are we now?”
Ann dusted off her clothes and looked towards the screen.
“We're not far from the Istvan Star System, are we? What if they come chasing after us? Should we run a little further away?”
“In Subspace, time and distance have no meaning.”
Duanmu Huai shook his head.
“Don't think that just because we've been through Subspace for only a few seconds, it's quite possible that at this moment we have reached the end of another side of the universe. Unless they follow us in, the enemy is definitely going somewhere else… Oh, but fortunately, we don't have to guess anymore.”
As he spoke, Duanmu Huai pointed at the screen.
“Someone is coming. Maybe we can ask for directions, perhaps these kind people will be able to tell us where we are.”
As they spoke, a fleet was approaching from the distance. They cautiously drew nearer to Duanmu Huai's Tribunal Fleet, and then a communication came through.
“This is Makurag's Glory, may I ask which Legion's fleet you belong to, and why you have suddenly appeared here? What was that Subspace disturbance just now?”
“Huh…”
Upon hearing the other party announce themselves, Duanmu Huai heaved a sigh of relief.
Taviz and Luo Ken also relaxed their tense expressions considerably upon hearing the other party's communication.
“It seems we can finally relax now.”
